Yep, damn wish we had DirecTV with NBC NY feed :(

Exactly. That's why the SNL producers told her to give the apology she did, "I'm sorry, my band started playing the wrong song so I decided to do a hodown...", which makes perfect sense if you watch the intro without sound ;)
I don't know why they bothered; the East coasters saw the real thing, and with this new-fangled invention called the "internet" they can quickly tell the West coasters what happend, so covering it up doesn't really hide anything.

yup, i watched it after seeing the clips popping up, and you see them play the music but you don't hear her voice. the band keeps playing for a while, after she runs off stage. they go to a SNL promo shot, then the band stops and there's just silence for a while before finally someone cuts to a commericial.

Ashley Simpson is an idiot that has become suddenly thrown into the spotlight because of her idiotic, albeit, gorgeous older sister. She's not even cute. :/

i think she's incredibly annoying, not to mention ugly. She's like the spokeswoman for "poser".

this looks like a career killer in less than 30 seconds....
especially when paired with the interview question about lip-syncing -- when she said "Personally, I'd never lip-sync."
then the lame "apollogy" at the end... she will find it hard to find someone willing to be in her band

btw: I'm in western washington, and they did NOT edit the lyrics for us. I looked up at the TV screen the moment I heard it because I had thought that she just sang that song a few minutes before....
(before reading the atot posts)
I wasn't paying attention at the end for the apollogy, so i'm not sure if they aired that.

on the one hand, i feel sorry for her... her career may have been ruined in the span of 15 seconds
on the other hand... lip-syncing bugs the heck out of me... and i'd rather watch static on my TV than watch someone jump around while their cd is playing

anyone remember "Vanilla Ice" ? How long did it take for his carreer to tank?

I'm glad this happened. I could never stand lip syncing at any event, especially at ones with small audiences... I mean, what's there to lose in trying?... I could understand playing a pre-recorded tape at perhaps, something like the Olympic ceremoney where tens of thousands would be watching you in attendance, or even at a pro sports game... But for a crowd of 200-300 friggin' people? I hope this is the catalyst for something ive wanted to see for a long time. The complete abolishment of the act of lip syncing a proposed "Live" performance.

Oh and,

Ashlee Simpson = Own3d

and

Tina Fey = HOT

:D

omg....

even britney did some actual live singing on snl.
see this is what most of you don't understand... when a performer dances, she can't sing [well] at the same time because of breath control. So she does either/or. I didn't see Ashlee's first song performance... did she dance ? If not, she has no excuse for attempting to lip sync this one.

I don't think you people should be surprised at lip synching existing. I'm surprised stuff like this doesn't happen more often.

She wasn't dancing hard enough that she couldn't sing. And nobody goes to see a performer dance, they go to see them sing. If they manage to throw a little dancing in there it's a bonus.

I'm sorry but ashlee looks like a witch and when she smiles it makes me wanna hit her with a wet noodle. I'm glad this happened to her and hope it happens to many more "entertainers" that make millions selling the crappiest music ever produced.

Well you can take Britney Spears as an example. She's definitely not known for her singing voice. She's an entertainer. She's a dancer first... everything is on her choreography. Lip Synching is expected. Christina Aguilera is the opposite. Everytime I see Christina pour her heart out on a song, she's sitting down.

I read that it could just be a sequencer with an echo or something, not a full vocal track

I didn't see SNL last night nor had I heard any of Ashlee Simpson's music before this, but it sounds like the band (or at least the drummer) did start playing the wrong song.

After listening to a couple of clips of the two songs she was supposed to sing on the show, it sounds like the opening drum beat from the vid cap posted in this thread is in fact the one that goes with the song that has the lyrics "On a Monday, I am waiting..." (the one that started playing over the studio speakers). From what I understand, this was the song she had already sang during the first musical break.

So, did the drummer start the wrong song, or am I missing something here?

Either way, it still doesn't change the fact that she was lip-syncing.

I actually like Ashlee Simpson's album, but why does she have to lip sync live? Just sing the song, I don't care if you suck as long as its real.

Amen. She didn't even do a convincing job of lip singing... Essh!

I posted this before the second song even started! Man, she does suck. I hope that no one will buy her albums after this, and she'll go away...

Her songs all sound the same anyway. But here's what happened:

(1) Her band started playing the RIGHT song
(2) The recorded vocals started playing for the WRONG song
(3) The band smoothly recovered and starting playing the music for the WRONG song to match the vocals
(4) Ashlee got embarassed/flustered/or just had to go to the bathroom and start dancing around the stage, and then finally walked off to the bathroom to puke her brains out b/c she knows that her pitiful career has just ended and that she will never have even 1/4 the talent (or boobage) of her sister
(5) She makes a lame apology BLAMING her band

It's on Drudge... wonder if MSNBC or CNN will pick it up in their "Entertainment" sections... somehow I doubt it.

I bet MTV won't say a word... after all they helped create her.

It was on CNN. That's where I first saw it at about 10:30AM Sunday morning since I've never watched SNL before. CNN didn't say anything about them changing it for the west coast though.

And what was up with that dance? Reminded me of a monkey at the zoo when he wants his mother to pick him up.

So, she sang the "On a Monday, I am waiting..." song earlier? (which, according to Google, is Pieces of Me). Then for the second musical break (the one in the vid cap), she was *supposed* to sing Autobiography?

After listening to clips of both songs, to me it sounds like the opening drum beat in the vid cap is the same one from Pieces of Me. In fact, Autobiography doesn't even have any drums in the intro to the song (at least in the clip I listened to). But I'll take your word for it since you actually saw it on TV. Maybe the compression used for the vid cap lost some of the guitar audio.

Like I said though, either way, the whole country got a chance to catch her in the act of lip-syncing :)...well, at least the East Coast.
