Voting fraud usually happens in local elections where it can make a difference.

By Amanda Loviza
Times Herald-Record

BLOOMINGBURG — Residents have been shouting it at village board meetings for years: Shalom Lamm orchestrated voter fraud in the Village of Bloomingburg in order to push forward his 396-unit Hasidic townhouse development, Chestnut Ridge.

On Thursday, the FBI arrested Lamm and charged him and two others with conspiracy to corrupt the electoral process - voter fraud. Former Mamakating Town Supervisor Harold Baird has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to submit false voter registrations, according to court papers.

According to the federal indictment, Chestnut Ridge developers Lamm and Kenneth Nakdimen and their associate, Volvy "Zev" Smilowitz, bribed people from outside the village with money, subsidies and other items of value to entice them to vote in the March 2014 village election. Lamm and Nakdimen, through their real estate company, allegedly paid one recruiter $500 per voter, with payments totaling $31,000. The conspirators allegedly backdated false lease agreements for uninhabited properties they owned in Bloomingburg, picked up mail from uninhabited homes where fraudulent voters were registered, and planted household items like toothbrushes and toothpaste to make unoccupied apartments appear lived in.

But most Americans don't care about local elections which actually happens to be where most politicians who go on to higher state and federal offices learn the meaning of "he who sits by the pot eats".

My brother's former coworker travels to vote illegally in multiple states every time there is an election.

Democrat.

It confuses me when people conflate "no evidence" with "it doesn't happen."

Lol must be nice to have that kind of time? Ridiculous
The guy lived and worked in California, where he already voted. He was still registered to a home in another state and knew his employer had to give him time off to go vote there.

Yes I do. Do you know there's an acceptable amount of rat hair in a candy bar? Does it make you want to lick a rat? She broke the law, she got caught, I'm happy. If more time is spent looking for other illegal criminals voting they'll find them
Yes by all means let's add another 1T to the national debt to get out voter error rate to absolute zero.

And by all means not spend any attention to voter disenfranchisement or mishandling of ballots at polling places because some people are such suck asses.

Benghazi, etc.

Gotta spend money for the clowns in congress try to validate their existence.

Rather than do anything productive, they went for obfuscation.

The amount of money spent there repeatedly was embarrassing.

Was McCarthyesm 2.0 and things in the US are just going to get worse if Trump has his way.

Those evil judges are shutting him down atm.

Yup I'm sure there's a few others. Probably in the neighborhood of 1/ 32,000,000 votes.

While I don't particularly have a problem with non-citizens receiving a slap on the wrist for voting I also don't really care that they do. Our view of government says it's just powers are derived from the consent of the people.

I view the greater harm as the disenfranchisement of others from strict voter ID laws.

Since our state was willing disenfranchise 600,000 legitimate votes per likely fraudulent vote the greatest harm to the legitimacy of the election was by voter ID.

Or in your metaphor to avoid eating one rat you'll down a couple 100,000s cockroaches. :)

It's no surprise to me that you really don't care if non-citizens illegally vote in our elections.

In this country, about 50 people are killed yearly by coconuts and like 10 yearly by vending machines. Unfortunately I don't care about that either.

In fact, I care more about coconuts and vending machines killing people than most things the GOP is up in arms about these days: voter fraud, who goes into which bathroom, the fictional war on religious freedom, and refugees coming into this country and participating in terrorism.

Just as its no suprise to me that you don't care if 600,000 of your neighbors are prevented from voting.

Anyone with over a 6th grade education knows that's the whole point of voter ID. To disenfranchise legitimate voters. :)

And about 99% of the posters on the forums think you do not believe that in reality and you are just spamming for effect.

I have not polled them I guess.

I wonder how big a fit Trump would have (along with a likely policy 180) if it turned out that there were enough illegal votes for him to change the outcome of the election :)

That actually is the sad point of all this. He continues to claim fraud but if he's somehow right is it possible fraud helped him win? He's so stupid that he can't see the flip side of his own argument. It reminds me of when he was arguing for that we need a wall to stop immigrants and that walls are inpenetrable and mid argument said "yes they could climb up it with a ladder and down it with a rope"

I'm confused too: I just browsed through this thread looking for anyone saying that voter fraud does not occur, and I didn't find any. Perhaps you could point it out?

Mostly agreed. Few illegals are so dumb or so ill-informed that they try to vote. There's nothing in it for them except grief.

It's Texas Republicans trying to reinforce their rationale for voter suppression. Their voter fraud bullshit has never been anything but cover for that.
