I would say any time after breakfast makes it long term. ;)

Only being 18 it's hard to make a decision such as this....however I strongly feel that love is more important to me than money....and Id go with #2

18 is actually a little late to be making that decision, if you wanted to go for option one that is. You can always change to option 2 with little or no preparation. In fact, little or no preparation often leads to option 2 unintentionally. :D

Ahhh, the question of the ages.
What you fail to realize is that at some point the LTR will deride you for not having $500K and the ubercareer and skip off with some dork who does, leaving you with the brats and the bills.

But he had lots of money, so his opinion is moot.

I would be miserable with either option. However, #2 is definitely the lesser of the two evils. I don't think that I could even function in scenario #1... in #2, I would probably hate my job, but if I had a s/o that loved me, I think I'd be OK.

I am quite the opposite. I am driven by money!

1) Great career, ($500k+ salary/year). No long-term relationship, working long hours regularly.
2) Very bad career (Cashier at Wal-Mart, $30k salary/year). Have a long-term relationship with someone who truly cares about you, and kids! Don't need to work long hours.

Which would you choose? ;)

Personally, I think I would choose number 1.

Let me see, if I work at Wal-mart I'll be poor forever. Number 1 leaves me some options. I could be miserable for a few years, making tons of money, and keep saving, since I don't have time to do anything else but work. I would be rich enough to retire at around 35 and get me a wife and have a family, of course I could get a job at Wal-Mart but with enough money not to worry about money (but then working at Wal-mart has its own unpleasantness)

#2 no contest.

Real love is very hard to find and worth more than all the money in existence.

You won't like hearing this, but if you work at Walmart and make $30,000 a year, you shouldn't be having kids.

Many good parents successfully raise children properly on much less.
