I go there maybe once a month and I'm an ABC... I didn't think they thought anything of us. Then again, I'm not there with friends who may act like they own the world (not saying you do) ... owners would definitely not like that. Be respectful and you shall get the same in return... with "our own people"... so I thought...

You're right I could see how acting like that would warrant such a reaction. But when I'm there with family (aunts, uncles, cousins who are all American born) all pretty respectful and humble, I just get that "vibe." It's hard to put into words.

Which race/ethnicity would you pick ? My fiance and I were discussing which minority race was the most "fortunate" to be if we weren't white in America. This is based upon what sort of hardships (or lack thereof) we have to face growing up, as adults, and whenever else.

We both agreed being Chinese/Asian isn't bad at all in "white America". Among the reasons were that we get "benefits" for simply looking Asian with Asian businesses... sometimes tax-free stuff for anything as long as we pay cash, etc. This may apply for other races, but I'm not aware of it. On the flip-side, looking like an Asian comes with generalizations favoring me. Other people would think we're not as good in certain sports (they praise our ability 10x more if we show them different). What about "equal opportunity" employment ? Some companies have a quota to fill, whether purposely or not... so jobs may sometimes come easier.

I'm starting to think being a minority is better than being a caucasian here in the states. Sure there are racist faces out there, especially growing up with ignorant kids the same age, but I think the benefits for being a minority make up for it sometimes...

Anyway, I guess another way to phrase the question is... which minority has it the best in North America ?

Try living in an area where the KKK holds rallies/the headquarters of Matt Hale's cult is an hour away and say that . . .

well, being of African-American descent is a bittersweet pill. It's bitter because of all the institutionalized racism you have to fight. Not to mention the diaspora of all your descendents from their original homeland. But it's sweet because girls are naturally attracted to you because they find you mysterous. Not to mention the Anaconda that comes standard with your lineage.

Look up a guy named Alex Curtis in San Diego...racists are going to be everywhere, but it only gets published if it happens in the South.

And you can use the non-racist government systems to use race as a reason to get you into schools and give you breaks if you start a business (8a).

I don't know who came up with the label, but if you're of Chinese descent but born here (United States) you're an ABC. If you weren't you're a FOB (Fresh Off the Boat) or MIT (Made In Taiwan).

That is not a benefit? Am I missing something? I know a couple of local businesses that would still be in business if they were 8a, and a couple of 8a businesses that would be out of business if they did not have the perks.

Interresting. I'm just a dumb white guy, thanks for answering the questions.

That is a BIG maybe. I really don't think Asians are considered a disadvantaged minority and thus don't get those benefits.

The employment forms ask Ethnicity... not citizenship... so I say Asian and not American...

But ABC = American, but you're of Chinese descent...
