If you had irrefutable proof Jesus did not exist, what would you do with it?

nothing. faith is synonymous with ignorance.

truth is relative. do you honestly think christians would honestly drop their belief and cease to exist?

this applies to all religions, not christianity in particular.

life is synonymous with ignorance. its impossible to know all things all the time.

what is your point? 😕

we are all ignorant, whether you worship science or religion, when lacking evidence and facts.

yup. it's best to just enjoy life. Pluralism FTW!

I would sell it. 🙂
And hopefully whoever buys it will release the information to the world so I have to make sure noone super religious buys it.

First get another identity. You're now the biggest target in human history.

You may want to play Final Fantasy Tactics, I think I may have done what Ramza did if the circumstances were just a tad more similar.

I'd blackmail the churches for a few $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to keep it a secret and when I'm done with it, I'll sell the info to someone and then move back to Japan and immerse myself with a room full of kogals.

Don't worry, the Christian's would deny that it's true.

Regardless, I'd put it in the form of a book and publish it under a pseudonym.

tell the world. not that it would do much good...i know many people who still deny evolution (aka BUSH!) and am just flabbergasted (damn i like to use that word when i can) that a man as stupid as that is the president. Science eventually explains almost all phenomon. but religon will always exist for those of us to weak to see through the web of lies and face reality.

I would tell the world. The truth is the truth and deserves to be known.

However, Jesus did live. The controversy is over who he is. 🙂

I'd try to make as much money off of it as possible and wave it in as many faces as possible, until I get shot 😀

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was him fooling people into believeing he didnt exist. Its his greatest weapon. In todays society its hard to believe in a religion. We are brain washed with all this scientific BS that it warps our mind into thinking whats possible and whats impossible. If there is a God, he can think in ways that you cant even comprehend. Religious people are not nutcases for the most part. Are there some exteremist out there? Sure. But I know plenty of people who dont believe in anything that are nutcases too. Science cant disput that ever since we started taking God out of everything the world has progressively gotten worse. People now get offended if they even hear the word God. The world would be a better place if people would follow the ideals that are in the bible, God, or no God. Sorry I kinda hijacked this thread, but I see a lot of anti God stuff here and it really just makes me sick. I for the most part keep to myself and dont force my beliefs on other people. I just lead by example and let people choose on their own.

I am going to wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. Faith is not synonymous with ignorance, I think it's the opposite. You don't put your faith in something that has shown you no return. At all. The bible specifically says that we will love God because He loved us first. Which shows that we recieved from Him before we even put anything into it. That looks like a rational decision to me.

The more faith you have in something is pretty much related to the amount of trust you have in it, based on your experiences with it. And trust is related to the amount of truth.

I'm going to have to go out and say that absolute truth isn't relative at all, which is what the whole religious faith is based off of, or it should be for that matter. There are things in life that should be intuitive, and if they aren't, then once the understanding comes, you can see the wisdom in them. For instance, not murdering. That makes life a lot easier, because you don't have to worry about being killed for the reason that the people around you usually won't do that because it's not right (an absolute truth). Even in places where you do see it where murder is rampant (desolated areas, third world countries, ghettos, etc) you know that the people would rather not have it that way, just for the sake that it keeps the people around that place in bondage. They're bound by fear of what will happen to them, so they do other things like adopt that type of behavior to survive, or move out, or whatever it is, but the fact of the matter remains, that the people, given the chance to escape the bondage of living in a place where murder is common place would leave.

Also, coveting your neighbors wife, man, that's more universal truth, because nobody truthfully wants to live a life where their neighbor is lusting after their wife, or worse, sleeping with them. It causes problems, and life is much much easier to deal with when you don't have to worry about your wife going off and cheating on you. Even people who say that they have "open relationships" are hurting. Especially those people, the bondage that they live in and the things that they do or have had done to them are terrible, the fact that you would take something as sacred as marriage and completely throw out the unity of it all, of you being unified with your wife or your wife being unified with you shows something that is not right. I don't really agree with the whole polygamy idea either, but the fact of that remains that the persons are still married, and they aren't ripping families apart from that, because they become one unit.

So I think that there are relative truths, but I believe that the absolute truths, the universal truths, which faiths are based off of (which are not limited to what I wrote, in any means), are not relative.

That's just my $0.02 though

What kind of proof could it possibly be? I could only imagine such proof (that x does not exist) would be a priori. In that case you are looking for an argument (in the strict sense of the word that logicians use). So I would publish the argument in a philosophy journal where such proofs belong.

If you had irrefutable proof that he did exsist, what would you do with that?

i'm curious, why do religious people often approach agnostics or athiests by quoting the bible? They seem to have difficulty with the idea that the bible may not actually be the "word of god". It might just be a loose collection of essays, edited, translated with errors, reedited, full of contradictions and half-truths and parables which many take to be reality.

Scientific BS? Yeah, I'm pretty sure you and I would never get along.
You go ahead and keep praying those levees don't break. I'll stick with the Army Corp of Engineers.

Some science is okay. But its when they start pulling things out of their asses it starts to get stupid. But when they start talking about our origin and how old things are they dont even have a clue. They change their mind all the time whereas the bible has remained constant throughout time. Things happen for a reason, people die for a reason. God has a chosen time for you on this earth, its not how you die, its just when. If God made us then I guess it gives him the right to destroy us does it not? You wont catch me praying for a levee not to break. God has a will and I'm just gonna accept it for what it is, even if it takes my life or someone close to me.
