Actually, the notion of garbage collection is relatively new. In the old days people would literally dump their garbage in the streets or gutter. In some societies there were landfills but no centralized garbage collection agency.

between garbage and human waste, the rodent population was historically very high, thus causing the outbreaks of many diseases including the black plague.

Topic Summary: Unions and fat lazy over paid bastards is my guess.

Unions, FAT LAZY PEOPLE, and an a overall attitude of we're too good to work on XMAS and New Years, unlike the other hard working people around here.

Not a mention of the weather :roll:btw

Meh. I'm one state south of the OP so weather's been on my mind a lot lately. It's been talked about quite a bit on these and other forums so my mind just locked on to weather as the reasoning.

After all, weather is the reason my own trash didn't get picked up. Made sense to me!

Yea, I live outside Portland myself. My garbage hasn't been picked up in 3 weeks either. Didn't even occur to me that it was the Fat, Lazy Union members because they didn't want to work, it seems obvious the weather is the culprit... wtf?

If they wanted to pick mine up today...they still couldn't do it because there is a huge pile of snow next to the curb. Cars are still in the street, so they couldn't even plow it if they wanted to. Same with my mail.

I wonder if the lazy assed OP has gone out and removed the snow from the curb, or alley so that garbage collection can happen? My guess = Fvck No.

If UPS and USPS, and the 20 year old PIZZA DELIVERY GUY can make it to my house over the past 3 weeks, why can you get your $100,000 garbage truck here with some Fing Chains on? I'll tell you why.

Unions, FAT LAZY PEOPLE, and an a overall attitude of we're too good to work on XMAS and New Years, unlike the other hard working people around here.

I'm sorry if you are a garbage man, but I have lost all respect for the ones around here.

3 fing weeks with no garbage pickup, you can suck it WASTE MANAGEMENT. SUCK IT LONG, SUCK IT HARD.

</Rant>

Have you ever seen a garbage truck? 20 tons of trash and waste in horrible weather on a very large vehicle with no traction on poor tires? Chains aren't legal everywhere so that is out of the option for half the country, not to mention these vehicles can get top heavy when loaded so flipping and sliding is always a possibility in bad weather. So if you trash on your lawn and shit in your driveway, keep bitching and maybe tell the city, Im sure the city cares enough to take you off the route.

Meh, out here we lost USPS, UPS and garbage for a few days last week.

My UPS tracking status said "DELAYED - Emergency situation beyond UPS control."

Shovel out your garbage box then. It's hard work believe it or not.

Now where I live they go all year round except during blizzards (too dangerous for them and other drivers) or if the road turns to one lane and it's properly cleared yet.

Excuse me, but I'd rather just go to work and take home all of my pay.

I'm in a union right now as well, and what is sad is that many of these people are incredibly hard working, but the union prevents them from getting work done more efficiently and earning more money in the process.

Unions are a blight on this country.

If there's a conversation going with several topics, try to quote a topic that's pertinent to your post. It's not difficult.

ACtually, you are wrong. I have cleaned my street to best of my ability. my garbage is available for them to pickup easily.....

I would bet anything that the Garbage Company + unions won't allow them to drive if there is snow. Regardless, all other types of people are driving, including other companies large trucks.

Not to mention, that it wasn't the fact that the weather has stopped them, it plainly says on the Waste Manamgement Website that they are delayed because of the Holiday + weather. Well you know what.....WORK ON THE HOLIDAY!!!!! DING DING DING. Don't delay my service I pay for because you don't want to work on a holiday.

You don't run a Tanning Salon, you remove garbage. It's amazing how cities all over the world deal with snow and still manage to remove garbage. How bout as a business, you plan for these types of situations. I have to in my business, I can't say...."Sorry, it snowy....we can't provide you service today".

Mail is coming, PIzza is coming, Packages are coming, but the poor baby garbage company can't make it.

WTF EVER.

I'm sure there are plenty of hard working garbage men/women out there, and this wasn't really directed at them, more at the "unions" and management of the companies that make these decisions that impact all of us.
