That's different, most people who kill are not sane. They have mental issues. No logical person would kill another person.

However speeders are just ordinary people who have the reasoning to weigh the risk/reward of a situation and would react based on that.

I find your logic interesting.

i find it moronic... if you think all killers are not sane.. boy do you have a wake up call coming..
do you know how many people that the system classifies as NOT sane are out and around you all day every day?
there are people with very serious issues all around you... BPDs skitzos MPDs manics bi polars etc etc.. that are so impared they draw disability from the government BUT are still allowed to drive and do normal things...

and if you think 1000 dollars is gonna stop the same people that dump 1000s of thousands on performance parts and cars you gopt another thing coming..

speeding has been around since the freaking invention of fire...

caveman 1 "Ugh said you cant run through here" ...
caveman2 "too bad me run... me late to kill assosaurus.."

They are more dangerous than the speeders.

I don't like them anymore than you, but the truth is they are only dangerous to the people who speed. If everyone drove as fast as them it would not be dangerous.

Speeding can be curbed easily without raising fines or wasting police resources.

Simply install cameras on traffic lights/"other" places. We had cameras installed here in Falls Church and nobody drove more than 30mph down Route 7 because everyone knew the cameras were there. Of course, too many people bitched about getting tickets, and the city caved in and disabled all the cameras.

Second part of the solution is to make speeding fines not criminal in nature, so that cops don't have to waste their time showing up at court so that a ticket doesn't get thrown out... but I admit that this solution is a helluva lot more difficult to implement.

speed bumps slow me down. i like to save my suspension. also, speeding is not the problem, it's stupid drivers. no matter what speed you're going, you're going to have that idiot who just isn't paying attention and is on their phone screaming their heads off.. or some woman putting lipstick on while driving, or a bunch of teenagers yapping at each other nearly t-boning you.

No your logic is moronic. To imply that a significant portion of speeders are insane. That's not true. Yeah I agree there are a lot of insane people in the general populace, but 98% of people out and about on the streets have enough reasoning ability to react based on risk/reward.

That's true, but you know it's also safer to have that woman on the cell phone going 20mph rather than 50mph.

Just raise the speed limit on all roads by like 50mph and then no one will have to speed!!!:D

people that speed do so for many reasons... and money especially only a 1000 dollar fine isnt gonna stop many...

They will always want to catch speeders. Why?...because its a source of revenue. Make it way to expensive would actually help stop it, but it would also slow the amount of revenue the Popo's would get to line their budgets. There is no money in going out and stopping violence and catching bad guys.

So what you are saying is that the local interstate with a speed of 70 MPH should be dropped to 45?

Then when its dropped to 45, those same morons can go 25 MPH?

ok, so lets say that they actually did this, and then ended up with less cops on the road. Eventually it will result in the same amount of speeders.

Lets say the average ticket cost right now is $200. If they increase the cost of a ticket, and put less cops on the road, the probabilty of getting caught speeding is much lower. Therefore, the overall risk vs. reward will remain about constant.

You're stupid and disconnected from the average person if you think that.

It may not be for you or me, but I know for a fact $1,000 is big money to the average person.

And note this: MOST people who speed, are younger, that is a fact. And the younger you are, the less money you have. Trying asking a college kid to come up with $1,000 bucks, most couldn't. This even backs up my argument even more, that most speeders are younger.

Well this is what I would do. If mayor, I tell cops (without the public knowing) to only radar areas with higher traffic, to make themselves more visable, to give the average person the IMPRESSION the same or more cops are on the road.

I think I have it. Put a bomb on a car and if it goes over the speed limit, BOOM? No more speeders to deal with because they'll be all dead.

This may blow some peoples mind too, but Speeding doesn't Kill!!!! What kills every time on the roads has been bad driving (with cell phone, putting on makeup, ignoring whats going on outside of the car) and drunk driving. Yet its Speeding that the cops go after.

Speeding is easy to measure. Can be done from afar and is enforced at random.

omfg you definatly dont live here then..
if you think its the younger gen that speeds your the disconnected one..
pull your head outa the sand and look around..
here where i live in Upper Middleclass Sugar land Texas..
its all the 40-50ish yuppies in thier BMWs and mercedes.. and the soccer moms in thier escalades and hummers..

not to mention the Acuras..Infinities and other high end jap trash yuppie mobiles..

here EVERYONE speeds or you get run over like grandma in a walker..
the average speeds during non rush hour is 10 over the posted limit on the highways..
and 5 over in most areas in town..

all you ever see is cops with soccer moms or some yuppie old dude in a suit..

the young people are the ones afraid to speed because the cops will yank them over the old dude in the Porsche...

now I dunno what poor little hole in the wall town you come from but I assure you the youg peeps are not the problem in most places.

Well geeze whiz mister idealist, how are we supposed to easily enforce that, and create a black/white enforceable law behind it?

Overall, catching speeders is the best way to punish people who are a danger on the road.

A cop cannot sit there and use his own judgement and discretion on EVERY car with questionable driving habits, then have it stand up in court.

I think you and Jedi should hang out...you both have some whacked ideas about speeding.

Where do you live? I'll fire up my old, loud Mustang and make some repeated 100mph runs past your house just to piss you off...

Oh, and let's look at your logic. What about say a highway where the speed limit is 65MPH, and EVERYONE but a few people go 80mph. How many cops are you going to post to get every one of them?

The fact most people are going 15mph over the speed limit tells me the speed limit is set too low.
