The fact that you cannot spell "definitely" makes me believe you're not very old.

FACT: The younger you are, the more likely you are to speed. No matter where you live. That is a cold hard fact. Undebatable. End of story.

Yes older people speed to. I'm speaking from a statistical standpoint.

This may blow some peoples mind too, but Speeding doesn't Kill!!!! What kills every time on the roads has been bad driving (with cell phone, putting on makeup, ignoring whats going on outside of the car) and drunk driving. Yet its Speeding that the cops go after.

Well geeze whiz mister idealist, how are we supposed to easily enforce that, and create a black/white enforceable law behind it?

Overall, catching speeders is the best way to punish people who are a danger on the road.

A cop cannot sit there and use his own judgement and discretion on EVERY car with questionable driving habits, then have it stand up in court.

But why is "Speeding" considered dangerous? Because its not. Its just an easy source of revenue. Pot Kettle/Black there Mr. Idealist.

Well with YOUR logic, we could say because there are a lot of murders in St Louis and Detroit, I guess murder isn't that big of a deal.

Because of a lot of people do it, that doesn't make it any less bad.

I speed. I speed like MAD MAN. But speeding laws exist because most people are simply bad drivers and cannot handle driving 80mph.

Dumbest post of the year. You got a wife and kids? Let them ride in a car that is going 100mph in a residential area with lots of turns and curves and then tell me how safe speeding is.

No....thats stupid driving. Cops usually pull you over on long straight aways when speeding.

well im 35 so I'm older than most on this board..

and I still think your VERY wrong... the ONLY time your stats may be closer to right at least here.. is late night on friday and saturday nights when the street racers and youngins are out and about..
otherwise during normal hours there are far more working stiffs speeding around than teens and college kids that are Supposed to be in school.

Try driving 90mph on the highway and the guy in front of you slams on his breaks because a deer jumps in front of him or he stops or swerves to avoid some debris on the road, and see what happens.

Fact: Speeding is dangerous, everyone on this forum agrees.

You're stupid if you think there is no correlation between age and driving habits, especially speeding. Seriously.

No one will admit it because I'm JLGatsby, but everyone here agrees with me. Fact.

And your grammar sucks for a 35 year old.

What about confiscation of the vehicle when over 10mph of the limit.

That will hurt more than a fine.

Maybe not permanent but the length of time could be based on the severity of the infraction.

Try driving 55mph on the highway and the guy in front of you slams on his breaks because a deer jumps in front of him or he stops or swerves to avoid some debris on the road, and see what happens.

LMAO.

You are comparing travelling the speed of most other traffic on the highway to murders?

Yep...that's some ROCK SOLID logic you've got there.

In a lot of places, they are forced to do studies on the average speed people travel on a road. If a certain percentage of people are exceeding the speed limit by a certain percentage, they are required to raise the limit to better fit the road.

Your logic seems to be assuming all speed limits are perfect for every road, and that just because someone once just decided that was going to be the speed limit, that is the best. I think having a speed limit be a static thing makes no sense.

For instance...you are on a highway that is four lanes wide...the speed limit is 70mph. Now, when traffic is very heavy during rush hour, that limit is probably very sound. However, it's not when it's 6am on a Sunday morning and there are like three other cars on the road...a speed like 80 or 90 is actually quite safe for those conditions...

If less people were speeding, less cops would be needed to monitor speeders, and more could focus on serious crime like gangs and violence. Or in low crime areas, less cops would be needed in general and taxes would be lower.

I would give the $1,000 fine to anyone going 5mph or more over the speed limit.

I think people would say speeding is not worth the risk if it meant a minimum $1,000 fine.

Dumb. Ass. Idea. So... many... things... wrong... can't... muster... the will to... keep going............

So agree with Gatsby any your his buddy :)
Disagree and your the moron with ill logic, thats stupid, and know nothing on how the world really works.

And whats scary is there is too many Gatsby's running America right now that have the wrong logic but think they are right in their thinking.
I still cannot get out of my head your thinking all rich people are smart, and with that logic and this one we will have to watch out for the super rich speeding in their super cars, but thats ok they are rich and super smart because they are rich so they can handle driving super fast weaving in and out of traffic and can afford the ticket ;)

But back to the real world Laws are not made just for saving lives but mainly for a source of income for the state/government. And some times the law enforcers are in the wrong, ever heard of a speed trap? Got plenty here where the roads go from 55 and if your not looking to 30 at the drop of a hat way out of the local town coming up, all the way into it and way out of it back to 55 again. They need those traps, but people from out of town who dont know they are there and drop so suddenly in the middle of nowhere would not, and a $1000 is ludicrous.

Aside of that laws are in place for people to break and they know will be broken and cought. Without people breaking laws and set up in such a way that people would go "fvck that" states and governments would lose revenue from what the tickets, and law breakers brought in through confiscated goods (cars, money, homes, etc) and lots of people would lose their jobs in the long run. Its a wicked circle but its what makes the world go around for money hungry politicians. The war on drugs will never be won no matter what, as another example. Can you fathom how many people would be out of work across the entire world if one day it was won? The government made that bs up because they know people would be for it, it would bring lots of tax money into the governments hands, and create more jobs.

So getting rid of all things laws were created to supposedly stop on paper (you know the old look at the right hand and pay no attention to what the left hand is doing), would cause even more trouble and put a lot more people in the poor house or on welfare, and you can bet taxes will go up big time.

Come on, your supposedly rich, why you letting a poor person on welfare explaining to you how the world works??? According to you Im the dumb one because Im poor and on welfare, and you cant see the bigger picture here :p

You're only thinking about yourself.

1. A speed limit doesn't need to be 100% perfect, only reasonably accurate.

2. Don't use YOUR driving skill to determine what the speed limit should be. Speed limits are determined based on what the AVERAGE person's driving skill is.

"To stop speeders in residential areas, just put up stop signs."

so you're suggesting to put up stop signs wherever you feel like it??? and you think that's gonna stop people from speeding???

Are you also suggesting that when they changed a road from 45 to 35, that for all those years it everyone was driving dangerously ?

You seem to under the impression that speed limit is only set due to safety reasons, what about the change in the speed limit on the highways in the US during the 70's?
