This is the current problem. ICE operations are covered under a huge pot of money from the OBBBA and have few restrictions on their use, and a shutdown/CR just lets them keep tapping it unabated. The current goal, as a minority party is to try and get restrictions tacted on via the appropriations process, even if it still sucks overall; and this is why you see the language people are using in the legislature- they're trying to peel off a handful of people to get those concessions (it is the same game Republicans have played for decades around abortion - many not being actively against it, but always supporting more restrictions under the guide of "safety"). Until you have political power to remake what you want, gumming up the works is a good goal: bury ICE in more beaurocracy to slow deployment of agents, reduce the areas they can spend money, ensure that Congressional oversight can still occur via unannounced visits, force them to spend resources on things they don't want, etc...
lolol

oh yeah they are really holding strong by saying things like we want them to get a judicial warrant to enter a private residence instead of saying - We want these secret masked murdering police to follow the goddamn constitution.

They could have also gummed up other works in the meantime, but you live in a lala land where things are going fairly well, though not hunky dory

lolol

Nope, the BBB already covers ICE spending, so I expect they'll be happy to let things drag on and blame Dems.
Nope, you are incorrect, The BBB was the fiscal budget for 2025 and covered ICE spending for 2025, which was passed thru the reconsiliation process. It's now 2026, and that is the fiscal budget bill they are working on.. I know it's hard to keep track since budgets are supposed to be done by OCT 1, for the next fiscal year. But Congress keeps kicking the can down the road.

The OBBBA provides a bucket of funding beyond the FY, hence why a shutdown doesn't actually defund those parts of DHS.

Nearly every budget is setup that way for all funding, which is why each year funding is changed, reduced, or removed..
I'm saying the reconciliation bill from last year doesn't have a yearly limit that would typically happen in the normal appropriations process - they have billions of dollars appropriated and authorized via that bill to fund their insane operations until like 2028.

After a long series of losses in court Trump admin pulling federalized national guard out of Chicago, LA, and Portland.

Great news. They will have to rely on ICE now.

Spoke to my friend in Minneapolis last night, she is going to come visit for a long weekend in March. She said their rights are still being consistently violated, but the media packed up and left. The main drama is over, so now they are just left alone. So fucking pathetic.

I don't expect the press to pay much mind unless there is a graphic incident or another execution caught on video. Which seems pretty much assured to eventually happen again.

Agreed on the media being it's usual shitty self. What we need is some entity with a big national presence and ability to draw attention to things to really call this shitty media out and say what is still really happening loudly and clearly. I just can't think of anything out there...Damn. Oh well.

Been interesting this last week being on the local Rapid Response signal chat. A lot of very active volunteers, it's great to see. Mostly false alarms so far, but they did literally help save someone who was in a courthouse, where ICE is not allowed to operate. The guy eventually got to leave with his lawyer driving him out of there. That was awesome to read it as it unfolded. Haven't had anything near enough to me when I've been free to get to yet, but thankfully there has been little local action from ICE besides a few kidnappings so far overall, before I joined.

Been putting up color flyers in spanish and english around the hood on what to do if you see ICE, and the hotline to call. Gotta print out more and I gotta print out like a hundred at work in B&W to hand out to people over the next week. I emailed the local government to see if they will advise city employees not to take those ones down, because I do know they take stuff down on some sort of random schedule.

Wisconsin voters you have your orders to vote this dickhead out..

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.) said Tuesday that Democrats “got their martyrs” when immigration authorities shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis last month.

amazing that the party whose members instigated jan 6th and then pardoned those same pos has the balls to say this....just fucking amazing.......

- I think it’s sick the elected officials would encourage their supporters, their trained activists, to put themselves into harm’s way to impede and obstruct legal law enforcement actions.

every accusation is a confession

These people are huge pieces of shit, and during Woke 2, we should be publicly punishing (legally or through public ostracizing) the leaders to make it clear that this bullshit cannot be tolerated by society. As we saw with Nazi Germany, you can't let the leaders skate and they should be made an example of (but you sometimes need to let the lower level people slink back into the background).

He came so close to defeat in 2022. Mandela Barns didn't get the resources he should have because most thought it was a lost cause. Biggest mistake of the 22 cycle for Dems besides Fetterman winning the PA primary (that one only in retrospect).

People hate Ron Johnson, some (like me) with a passion.

However, expecting widespread Wisconsinites (outside of the 3 biggest cities) to vote for a black man? I voted for him, but never had any expectations of him winning.

Fake ICE hotline has MAGA Karen call in to report the parents of one of her kindergarten students, because they don't look right in her community, so she checked their records and noticed they weren't born in USA so she's reporting them. He makes a sarcastic remark about the threat to America, so Karen immediately asks to talk to a supervisor, because she's the victim of sarcasm.
