I'd be shocked if MC gets away with those prices, but then again, it could be indicative of initial supply limits. Makes you wonder how Mindfactory could've been selling at those prices if supply was an issue.

Guys why you care about k cpus? They run almost at max from stock and wont oc at all anyway. Its waste of money.Last K cpu worth buying was 8700k.Intel is similar to AMD now-runs max at stock and you get nothing from oc.
Look at 11700F and 11400F.Its freaking steal.
11700F for 298USD and 5% slower than 11700k(only 100mhz lower turbo). It will be faster than ryzen 3700X in everything and cheaper.Pretty much compete with 450USD 5800X and for 298usd.
11400F for 157usd?Jesus christ! It will be faster than ryzen 3600 and 25% cheaper.AMD dont have anything at all to compete with it.

Yeah. And what is amazing in this generation is that all important memory tuning is enabled on lower end chipsets. No longer one is forced to buy Z490 to couple it with bargain 10700F. One can save on MB and go for some awesome 8C deal instead of bargain 6C.

I also hope that Intel would relax some base clock overclocking, not much, several mhz is plenty when multipliers are 4X.

Turns out that Intel's worst enemy is itself.

With the Intel 10700K and 9900K $250 at Microcenter there's zero reason to go with Rocket Lake for gaming. And that's pretty much the only reason why you'd go with Intel. For a budget gaming build. Dang, didn't think I'd say those words together in the same sentence.

Rocket Lake prices need a gravity adjustment to even be considered, IMO.

I still want to see if the Tau is causing Rocket Lake clock speeds to drop in a way that doesn't happen on Comet. But otherwise, yeah, especially when a reasonable overclock plus 3200+ memory on Comet Lake would net you another 10+% pretty easily.

Why? They know the best, how many of each CPU of which generation they want to sell, they know the production cost, capacity, etc. Intel does not care much what exactly you buy from them.

And when some of their CPUa are not very competitive with AMd products, what if they do not care? What if they do not want to sell many of them???

True. Then again 11600KF at $237 and particularily the 11400F at $157 (now with overclocked memory!) look like very good deals as power consumption of these is managable.

AMD will hopefully release the 5600 and also lower 5600X price somewhat to offer the same bang/buck. Unfortunately until supply improves there's probably fat chance for that :(
Those are 1k unit prices for god sake

If you're referring to their i7 and i9 skus, of course they want to sell as many of those as they can. That's where their largest profit margins are.

I ordered an 11900k form B&H photo. Was looking to upgrade my rig anyway in a new case.

Now to find a Z590 board. Either the Rog strix z590E or maximus hero board unless I change my mind and cancel the order lol.

Weird that they have 4 m.2 slots but apparently on z590 if you use an m2 drive in a certain slot, it will make your gpu run at x8.

No doubt that some people will go this route, but with what has been shown so far concerning the performance, preordering one at a the highest price Intel will ever get for this CPU is not something I'd ever consider.

But we all have our own vices where we can look past the pricing of the product, but the pricing premium of this CPU compared to the 10900k is tough to swallow when it comes to any "real world" difference.

Seems like there are now three options:
1) 1x16 and 1x4
2) 2x8 and 1x4
3) 1x8 and 3x4
You just need to avoid option 3.

For many of us on the forum who are IT professionals, engineers, or equivalent, the price difference is only 2 hours of work. There is hardly enough difference in price from the 11700k to the 11900k to even bother considering. But, I just couldn't do it based on principle of not wanting to get ripped off. Unless there is something really surprising in the final benchmarks, the 11900k just won't even be noticeably faster than the 11700k on just about anything. I personally have to agree that Intel is overstretching on pricing here.

I will be getting a new computer in April, and the choice for me comes down to OEM availability. None of the i9s seem even remotely worth it. So, it'll be the 11700, 11600, or maybe just maybe some OEM can get an AMD chip in stock and I'll go that route. I normally like the $499 Dell, which in this case is probably going to be the 11400. With the gimped GPU, the 11400 doesn't tempt me this time. So, I'll likely splurge for the 11700 chip.

No, I understand being able to afford something and justifying it to yourself (I spend plenty on unnecessary toys), but like you said it's the understanding of what you are "gaining" by preordering this CPU at $620+. That's tough for me to wrap my head around considering what has been revealed so far with Rocket Lake.

Generally I'm a pretty conscious buyer but I've been itching to upgrade something in like 3 years.

You're right though it is pricey. Having read about B&H pre-orders not being on time it's possible I'll change my mind by the time they get to shipping.

And just like all IT professionals, engineers and equivalent, we value efficiency and clarity. It's less about the money and more about a decision process that accurately reflects our professional values.

Yea that's what I was seeing when I started reading the asus z590 manuals. So this must be a z590 specific design not an asus design choice?

I only have 1 nvme drive right now and plan on using it along with 3-4 other ssd's.

If Intel is really pushing the clocks on these chips, the actual number of 11900K parts may be small at first and given the current market I can see Intel pricing accordingly. Sure ~$600 would buy you a 12 core AMD CPU, but those aren't really in stock right now in any appreciable amount, which may have also factored into Intel's pricing decision.

Didn't see what Newegg was charging. They're showing the 11900K as sold out now.

I wonder if the 10850K on sale for $410 at Newegg would be a better choice than the 11700K at $420. 2 more cores and +200MHz for boost. Wouldn't mind PCIe 4.0, but I don't like jumping on 1st gen of new slots (same for DDR5 when it comes).

It will likely drop further a little when Rocket Lake actually starts shipping.

Unless you do something that needs 2 extra cores, the i7-10700 ($260), or if you need an unlocked CPU i7-10700k at $325 is a much better value. Although I think B&H Photo had the 10700k at $258 just a few weeks back (and the 10850k for $339). Those would be the target prices to buy immediately (for me at least).

10850K has been $320 at MC for a week or so.

Plus board discount.

I've been advising friends who pinged me on this release to hit the 10400 for basic builds, 10600k for clocks and gaming or just push past reasonableness and get the 10850k over the 10700 anything. If you are going for moar cores, get as many as possible. The value really is there, IMO.

Of course at prices above that AMD is a seriously strong option and in stock at 6 & 8 cores. On sale even.
