general philly area. it's where like 80% of my college friends moved to after graduation and it's cheaper than NJ.

I've tried working at home (telecommuted for a year). I don't want to do it again. I have no discipline and everyone keeps bugging me to do stuff because I'm just "playing on the computer" when I'm doing remote support or whatever.

Guess I'm pretty happy where I'm at :)

Unless you want to live in a city, in which case you really wouldn't be that much better off, and you might even end up worse off.

True for Shanghai or Beijing, but many smaller mainland cities you can live dirt cheap still.

my company recently took away our telecommuting, but I don't really miss it most days tbh.

for me to really telecommute for my entire work week, I'd really need a dedicated room used for nothing but work. right now, my computer is in my bedroom and it was kinda soul-draining some days to not even leave the room for like 18 hours.

Costa Rica, definitely. It'd be even better if I could make half of what I make and work half the time - 20hrs a week. That'd be awesome.

I don't work at the moment but I'd love to graduate and live somewhere in Canada. It's my plan in the next year or two. Don't know where, somewhere with a decent tech industry and mountains nearby.

Same reason my dad stop doing it

China, I'd live like a king.

That would be at the bottom of my list. Dirtiest place in the world, but I guess that only matters if you enjoy breathing. :D

Go to south east asia and everything would be just as cheap or cheaper with a much greater quality of life. $3000/month in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia - you'd be living like a king even in the major cities.

You can do that in China too, just not the MAJOR cities (Beijing, Shanghai). Medium-sized cities, there's still tons to do, and everything is much cheaper. My family's from Xiamen and having money there is awesome, a few of my relatives make tons of money by chinese standards and they are living awesome lives.

But now that I think about it, I don't know why i didn't answer with - Puerto Rico. It's pretty awesome there if you're not a working-class dog. US benefits without the US drawbacks.
