1) Philly - my friends and family are all there. I only moved out here because that's where the jobs are
2) San Diego - well, to be clear, San Diego has the ideal weather for me....but I don't think I would like anything else about living there.

So lets transport San Diego weather to Philly, take my job there...and I think we're just about perfect!

I guess my main question within this thread would be hat are your reasons? A lot of posters seem to have just taken into account the environment of where they would be living, ie the scenery and the weather, rather than location of of family, friends and living in a place where basic amenities are right down the street (Gas station, convenience store, etc).

For these reasons I can't say where I'd want to live because there's significantly more exploring I would like to do.

Ok...my reasons for Santa Cruz:

1) Area - love the ocean and the mtns...you get a bit of both
2) Activities - Surfing, Mountain Biking, hiking, etc
3) Friends - Two of my best friends live there (brothers) and will likely be living there for the long haul
4) 2 major cities near by for work opportunities
5) Surfing...have I already mentioned that?
6) Weather. Pretty much perfect to me. Never gets too cold or too warm. Pretty much always perfect for outdoor activity except for some of the rainy months.

Somewhere in France or in Tokyo. Of course I would need to learn Japanese or reacquaint myself with French, but I'd get there.

London/Vancouver would be nice, though with my small salary I'd be quite poor in London.

China, I'd live like a king.

Don't be stupid. The only livable places in China are cities and those places are damn expensive, Shanghai cost of living is comparable to some big cities in the US.

There are some better places to live around the world that are cheaper and English speaking. I'd live in the Philippines, especially in resort cities like Cebu. Subic and Clark where US bases used to be has good infrastructure and very cheap to live too. Plus people in those places worship American.

And the guy said you'd die like a dog is right. If you talk sh!t about communist, or piss off some rich, powerful people, you'd disappear in jail and die worse than dog.

That makes no sense.

Sorry, meant no offense. An old coworker of mine used to say something similar to the post I responded to, which is what triggered my response.

Specifically, he would say, "When you are single, you live like a king, but die like a dog! When you are married, you live like a dog, but die like a king! The secret of life? Get married just before you die."

Not sure why a post about living like a king in China triggered that memory, it just did.

Anyways, if I could keep my salary and live anywhere, it would be Portland Maine. Housing is 50% cheaper there than my current location. Most everyone is pleasant, there is no traffic whatsoever, and I would be less than 30 minutes from most family members. Not to mention that my son could go to an excellent school system. Win win.

weather in san diego is alot different from what people seem to think.

it gets really hot, and fairly cool a lot.

a better temperature environment would probably be venice CA. that's my ideal climate.
