Here are the specs
700mhz PPC chip
DVD burner
15" LCD
40 gig hd

This machine is the slowest PC I have ever used. Opening and closing programs and switching between them is slower than my first computer a 200 mhz pentium. Os X completly sucks. No way to easily switch between the programs like a task bar. The "dock" is not the same sorry. No tabs for each window in explorer like the task bar either. I'm running 10.1.2 BTW. Sometimes when typing in this forum the text simply disappears for about 5 seconds fromthe massage text window.

Don't believe the HYPE!! It's ove priced slow garbage compared to any PC running a modern OS.

Edit I would return it but have no will power.


I figured I could have gotten a much faster PC with a 15" LCD for around $900 if I built it myself. >>

There is nothing wrong with your new MAC. It is helplessly short of RAM which is probably why it is dogged. Other than that it should scream in RC5 and OGR!

Your reading comp isn't to good either slick, I stated that I don't have one and most likely won't buy one. I own 2 AMD solutions based off of the KT266a and the AMD 760. Both are for sh!t. But, you can buy the bargains basement stuff, get no support and be happy. I don't fvcking care. I do get pissed when a I read some dude whining about something he knows nothing about and watching the rest of the community jump on the bitching bandwagon.

Get a clue, TARD! You're the one touting the quality and stability of an iMac DESPITE Carbonyl's experience! He took a chance, expecting at LEAST some stability for a way overpriced PC. He got sh!t for his trouble, but that FACT completely escapes you. Shut the f*ck up before you embarrass yourself worse.

Everybody that piled on stated FACTS about that machine being FAR too expensive for what you get, even if the damn thing runs as advertised, which it didn't in this case. BTW, glad your AMD, POS has treated you so well. You deserve each other!
 
How about the solution to everything (or at least almost everything 🙂): Install Linux!!! (I don't use Linux, but it would be a good use for a MAC).

I have no idea whether RAM will cure it's ills or not, but I do know a PC short on RAM wouldn't crash and lockup because of it. At least not with the installed, mature, software. And all the RAM in the world won't change the fact that it's too damn expensive! He's taking the smartest course of action in this case. He gave 'em a shot. Can't ask for more than that!

So, you arn't going to win any prizes for thinking outside the box are you? Maybe Carbo's mac is a dud. Maybe he just wants to hate it (like you) and is finding all the faults he can. I guess that fact that Carbonyl only mentions that is crashed once doesn't mean anything either. After all if you build a PC, it will be stable and never crash.

Doesn't matter, Apple doesn't deserve the crap that's been slung in this thread. You are a zealot, and you call me one.

Just to throw this out there...

I run a 400MHz G3 with OSX and 512MB of RAM. It's not as quick as my 933 PIII, but it's a lot more fun, and even more stable than XP (probably as much poor 3rd party driver design than anything, but that's one of the things you don't have to fight as often with a mac).

The only thing that throws my OSX box for a loop is the poorly coded Lotus Notes for Mac...and even then, force quitting the Classic enviornment fixes all.

I will talk FROM EXPERIENCE. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE WHAT I SAY YOU CAN SHOVE IT. THIS IS MY OPINION, so take it for what it is MY OPINION!!!



We use Macs here at school in all of freshmen Engineering labs. THey are absolutely horrible for our purposes. In Maple 7, they ran out of memory repeatedly. AUTOCAD 2002 was even worse, with repeated crashes and freezes. This is not solely my experience but that of the entire class. (everyone complains) They are all dual 800MHz g4s with a minimum of 384MB of ram

From my experience, they do not sere well in these two functions.

Of course, others might have better luck




P.S. Thankfully we have a lot of Dell's new Optiplex's everywhere else. THe upperclassmen get access to Precisions, APlhas, basically whatever they need.

Did I mention that all he pcs, MACs and Pcs in the Labs have LCDs...

OK I'm back now after the crash. GAwd I can't help but laughing. The keyboard stopped registering and the screen started flashing on-off eratically..I am going to return this if it happens again.

I gave this machine an honest 8 hours of solid use. From everything from burning CD's (which incidently only burned 1.2mb out of 430mb before it crashed an ruined not 1 but 3 cd's), to web browsing, printing, word, MacklinkPuls, watched DVD's and apple works..

I'm not the one ignoring FACTS! All I and most others, have said, is that the damn thing is way too expensive for what you get. All Carbonyl got was grief and not enough RAM for some reason. What, he didn't cough up enough already!

If the POS was sold for 25% of what he paid, people would just say, you get what you pay for. The performance of that 'treasure' just adds insult to empty wallet injury!
 
Like Onery said I gave em a shot becasue I have an iPod and my boys wanted one. It failed any reasonable tests compared to a modern PC. Perhaps it was the "low" 256 mb of ram or I just got a faulty one. But I feel its a POS compared even to a PII 500 running 98se which I was replacing.

I will say some positive things about it; Very nice LCD with no dead pixels, very quiet compared to any PC I've used since it only uses one 120mm temp sensing low rpm fan, and It looks nice industrail design wise.

Also, Stop sending me PM's and email about this you won't get a reply with your rantisorous attitudes.

I find it very surprising you PC crashes all the time. I have 3 stuttle ak31 t-bird 1.4's running XP at the office and they have only crashed about 4-6 times over the last six months running 24-7?? Plus my office is a very solid state hostile enviroment with dust and chemicals everywhere. BTW- they all cost less than $500 each and outperform that iMac by a large margin. I won't even get into the software/games superiority over the mac.

Riiiight. First off I don't think you assembled it properly ESD wise and there's something wrong with your components if, as you say, it's crashes all the time. Sencondly I can buy new from new egg for less than I paid for the iCrap. I may be dumb but not that dumb😉 Nice try though.

Yeah and conversly, at my office there are 11 Macs that I think crashed a total (all 11) of maybe 5 times during the last year. I usually forget about those machines.

Shall we turn this into a "my-penis-is-bigger-than-yours" contest? 🙂😛 If the iMac is a bum mac, get it replaced. If you have to have if because the family wants it, so be it. But don't badmouth it because you don't "think" its a good enough machine.

I don't/didn't expect you to take it. It was an illustration. I guess you missed that.

ESD was/is not an issue. I can properly build a PC. God knows I've assembled enough. (5000+) Also the comment was "for sh!t" Not "crashes all the time" Its not 100% like my P4X266/P4 1.6 but its not a BSOD/reboot queen either.

Hmm, maybe there is "something wrong" with your iMac if it crashes all the time?
