Whatever, throw the stability of the Mac out the window for a Nforce/Duron solution. Yeah, good.
You will not find a 15"LCD that is as clear and bright as the iMacs for under $500, if you want to kid yourself and think that the 17" you quoted above is worth your time, go ahead.
You need a 40GB drive and a nic, oh and you forgot the DVD burner. If you add those things you are dnagerously close to the same price. You may argue that you don't need them, but I say that if we are going to compare apples and ornages 🙂P)) you need them.
Oh, and double the RAM and get rid of the useless floppy drive.
Dude, all I'm saying is that you aren't giving the thing credit where it is due. The machine is worth every penny you paid for it, if you don't like the dumb thing grow some stones and return it. Build your own so when ever it crashes it becomes "your fault"
I read the deals that andy posted, and as far as I'm concerned that don't measure up. You may be happy with them, but they don't equal the iMac. Its not the end all of computing, but it is a solid and fast machine. >>
RGN- Carbonyl's iMac didn't come with a DVD burner. It came with a DVD + CDRW drive. Tack another $70 on for another 20 GB of space, plus $70 (being generous here) for a DVD drive, plus another $200 on memory, it still puts his machine at $1470, which is a still $330 less than the iMac. Plus, this is the "out the door" price, not the before tax price quoted by Carbonyl. Finally, Carbonyl quoted 256 MB of RAM in his specs for the PC. Does the iMac actually have 512 MB of RAM in it? If not, the $330 cheaper PC becomes $530. Macs are a less cost-effective computer. Buying one will cost more than buying a similarly powered PC.
