Sorry, let me make up for some of that.

re: Costco

Costco slices at the food court have a nostalgic effect on me, and the pepperoni is crispy so I don't mind. I can't stand the takeout or take & bake pizzas though....

But you're OK with Pizza Hut pizza? I can't stand Pizza Hut. I rather eat $1 Totino's than Pizza Hut.

Yes, for take out I would rather eat pizza hut pizza and breadsticks. But really, if I'm going to be at Costco anyway I'll probably buy a slice of $1.99 pepperoni and a $1.50 hotdog/drink, so the take out pizza is not necessary.

The pizzas pictured in this thread make me sad.... So much cheese, and it its the bland stuff too :(
Pizza should be about flavor and texture not about how many calories you can fit on a bread disc.

Sadly THIS place closed recently, probably because they jacked their prices sky high but the link has some pics on how a Pizza should look.

those arent pizza's, they are sandwiches missing the top.

Find a used breadmaker at Goodwill, make your own.

You might even be able to find wood pulp to put in the dough to get that Pizza Hut flavor and texture, barf...

The worst pizza I ever ate was papa millionaire's pizza. The crust tasted like cardboard and the cheese, sauce and toppings were not any better.

Never again. I'll gladly pay the premium for good quality pizza.

Yeah, we used to go all the time in little league baseball. Pizza Hut buffet, pitchers of soda, and dessert pizza FTW!

I don't know if being a kid is what made it good, or if it was actually good in the late 80's & early 90's before everyone started using crazy amounts of preservatives & crap.

You were lucky, we had Pizza Inn buffet after little league games. :D

But it was a glorious time to be alive, because Pizza Inn had recently brought forth upon the world the first Pizzert, in the form of chocolate chip cookie.

The question should be how was the taste between the local vs. the chain? If the local is a lot better, than go with it. Otherwise, go with the chain. Personally, I would not pay $27 plus changes for 14" pizza unless that taste was outstanding.

Our local Pizza Hut places all have a special of $10 for any size pizza to be pick up (no delivery). Not bad for a less than $11 (including sale tax) for a meat lover with all the meat toppings (up to 10 toppings per pizza).

That's basically the summary, good but not life changing. In comparison, this single serving pizza for $15 was the second coming of christ.

You know, I am not picky about pizza. One of my go-to stops when I'm out on errands is Sam's Club. I think it's maybe a dollar or two for a giant slice of pepperoni that is actually pretty dang tasty!

c'mon kaido.

LOL

I'd love to be able to do all that, but the point is I need something that I can call in while I'm at work and pick it up on the way home. Maybe in a few years.

What is the point of this sparse crap spinkled on top? Is this supposed to be for looks?

1) to represent the Italian flag
2) because basil is delicious. to be fair I did rip up the biggest leaves into smaller pieces and re-sprinkled it.

Pizza Hut's pizzas make me sad. Their sauce is so bitter and their crust is like cardboard. The thincrust is OK, but not my favorite place.

Fortunately we have 3 ma&pa places within a half mile of our house and they have great deals, so we always get good stuff (one offers 1/2 all pizzas on Mondays and Wednesdays :D !)

Their sauce is terrible, although you can get several different sauces now. I haven't tried any of the others myself though.

Pizza Hut really offers a lot of options now. I can definitely understand people hating it if they just order the cheapest stuff they offer (like those square "box" deals, that is like school cafeteria level pizza, the crust is absolutely awful), but you can get a lot better stuff there now. And most of it (like the sauces and crust finishes; except for the stuffed crusts) are free. And they run enough deals that you can get pretty loaded large pizzas for $12 pretty frequently.

And the thing is, it wouldn't take much to be able to match or beat the major chains, but few mom-and-pop places I've eaten at do, and the ones that do seem to charge at least double the price, and it usually isn't twice as good. But I've come to the conclusion that what I like for pizza is different from what most people want.

What is that alien life form on the jar of tomato sauce?

looks like a rambutan.

Yep, one of the wife's things, it didn't go on the pizza. The thing made me nervous too, it was incidental in the pic, she had just gotten back from the produce place.

They just remodeled and reopened, they have things on sale dirt cheap at the moment, she forgot to stop in on the home and was kicking herself a little when I asked about it :p
