Heck, if you want to start looking at people's eating utensils, the bare hand is the better than anything, but that's considered bad manners in most civilized nations.

It depends, the fork is more efficient for most things. But for rice (what asians eat most), it's easier to use a chopstick than fork.

No. ONLY for sticky rice can you use chopsticks, and a fork works better for that anyway.

I've seen many people use chopsticks for NON STICKY rice such as shrimp fried rice.

Truth. The Only thing that a Asian cannot use a chopstick for is soups and stews, for obvious reasons.

You should get hollow chopsticks, slurp up the liquid stew then eat the bits the usual way!

Logically, it just seems that chopsticks more or less does the same thing requiring more dexterity and effort.

They also can't pick up small flat pieces sticking the the plate as well, because they're straight so you can't scoop with leverage.

I think asians use chopsticks for traditions sake, and white people for novelty sake.

I'm abandoning them as of now.

just cause you can use chopsticks doesn't mean you use them well.

You should move on from denial into acceptance and just figure out that it's not the chopsticks that are the problem, but you.

Fuk you, just cuz you have nothing go through your head before you speak doesn't make you cool.

I happen to use chopsticks perfectly, "you should've read a few more posts" until the one i mentioned i'm a master at the wet marbles game.

you like hearing your own voice, and that is just sad cuz , ur probably just in denial that no one likes you.

my first line was DON"T hate, and you simply couldn't get that through your ugly thick skull

LOL! Now thats a hilarious outburst!

Chopped sticks have their uses, just like a fork. If I'm eating a steak, I'm not eating it with chopsticks. If I'm eating a noodle or rice dish, it's actually easier to use chopsticks.

We were in a San Francisco Japanese restaurant ordering food. When I ordered a Budweisher the waiter said that he would bring me a knife, fork, and spoon too.

I ate the sushi with my fingers and used the fork for the other items. I find it easier to eat rice with a fork. I do not like bending over my plate and shoveling rice into my face as fast as I see accomplished chopstick users do. But it comes down to what you grew up with.

It matters how it's prepared. Chinese and many asian meals are prepared to be picked from a main serving plate using chopsticks. Mongolian Beef and other steak dishes are pre-sliced.

what a dork. So white people should use a fork to eat their sushi?

1) True asians dont fvcking eat shrimp fried rice 24/7. The white rice to fried rice ratio is like 10:1 or whatever. Furthermore, if by sticky rice you mean glutinous rice, that's in fact probably easier to eat with a fork. Most white rice is sticky enough by nature that it's easy to eat with chopsticks. Fried rice is probably easier with a spoon or fork.

2) Chopsticks = cultural thing. Forks are perhaps the easiest to use and even if my chopsticks skills were way up there, I'd still have to concede the fork is a lot better. But for the sake of being Asian, I use my chopsticks.

I think he maybe onto something with the hollow chopsticks. Although, Many asian soups are too "Goopy" for straw apparatuses.

I understand your point but I gotta say, you must give credit to the ingenuity of the Chinese people. Before metallurgy was developed to produce forks, knives etc., what were the Europeans eating with? All the Chinese needed were two twigs and they were good to go.

I actually think its harder to use forks than chopsticks.

I don't know about you, but Chopsticks are much better for eating than forks. I can eat individual grains of rice, not struggle to pick up peas, eat noodles without them slipping off my fork and do all kinds of neat stuff.

I thought Koreans didn't use chopsticks...

They use tiny metal ones, very hard in my opinion since they have little surface area and are slippery like hell.

So they should stab at the sushi with a fork?

Chopsticks > Forks, both cultures use spoons if you aren't aware.

Ever bite onto the metal tips of the fork really hard on accident when you put the food in your mouth? Yeah, that sucks. Chopsticks offer more control in a smaller more nimble utensil. Stabbing the food on a loaded plate is also messier than being able to pick out precisely what I want from a dish without pushing the food all over the plate. Plus, you also don't worry about stabbing yourself when washing the utensils.

Chopstick + Spoon is all you need for Asian food, easier too clean as well.

Chopsticks FTW!

hahaha, first big problem is eating rice from a plate :) IF you are afflicted with that, use a spoon to scoop to your bowl and eat from a bowl. Your pick of chopsticks or spoon at that point.

I'm white and my korean gf introduced me to chopsticks.. I use them whenever I can now. I feel like I can kind of taste the metal fork after using chopsticks for a while.

I like the added control too and its just plain fun!

Chopsticks > forks

Eating rice from a plate is always a pain unless the rice is sticky. The optimal tool for eating rice is a spoon.

I think Chinese use chopsticks, as part of their human culture. I think that's mainly what it is.

I don't know what you are trying to accomplish with the semantics on sticky rice, but whateva.

Chopsticks are really good for things that 'stick' to a fork.

What do true asians do with fried chicken? How about baby back ribs?

It cracks me up how some people (who happend to be asian) seem to have this chip on their shoulder against white people embracing their culture. You should be happy, hell honored that Americans are so open and willing to try new things. Where is all this anger coming from? Jesus, I know black people who aren't nearly as angry as some of you come off. :p
