Went on a date in the city with a girl from Tennessee. At 42 years old she lived almost all her life in TN, did an internship in Europe, finished her master's in Memphis, moved to NYC in 2017. She is a psychologist.

There was this one time when I lived in Minneapolis near uptown (the liberal section of town) and there was a girl there that was conservative. We chatted a bit and to my surprise she didn't believe in all the liberal nonsense. Now I can post about it on Anandtech 20 years later, because... I'm cool like that, just like your post. High five. You’re just as likely to find Confederate flags in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio or parts of the Pacific Northwest as you are in the South. There are everywhere. But in a place like Arkansas where Trump wins by 27% it's a lot worse than say NJ where he lost by closer to 20% so the ratio is much better here of sane people. Plus a lot of people here that did vote for a fascist, they don't have this sense of allegiance to a traitorous confederacy.

Due to years of terror inflicted on them by the various secret police, the Warsaw 'Member states' did not have a strong opposition to Soviet Russia. Given the general consensus around here, these states are not capable of the logical, well considered debate that would proceed said division of the country formerly known as the USA. As @dank69 said, it won’t work.

It would seriously degrade our economic and geopolitical power and likely lead to the end of NATO and our Asian alliances. If things proceeded as I would expect, we would have a hostile neighbor to the south, if we somehow avoided war.

In the US, there are two roughly equal--in-power political parties that control various segments of various governments. You have beet red Georgia with sky blue Atlanta as the Capital, as one very clear example that is relevant to myself. Republican Governor, Democratic Mayor, State Police, City Police, County Police, etc., etc. And that's just the "officials" with guns and the color of law.

Thinking that there isn't going to be various insurrection groups and political assassinations by looking to the Soviet Union would be an error. Apples and oranges.

Better to give the people what they want, good and fucking hard.

Frankly I still find it confounding. I do not dispute this because I know who to trust here, and you are among them. I also encounter things on TV news, video of covidiots, trumpies, etc. etc. It's kind of demoralizing if you expect otherwise. It makes me angry but more determined to hold onto my sanity, which is a good thing!

I don't ever watch Fox News because I don't have subscription TV, just OTA. There's a Fox affiliate OTA station but I don't watch their news. I presume the worst offenders, Hannity and Carlson aren't on there but I just wouldn't trust them and watch ABC, CBS or NBC. I find PBS kind of annoying. Have cut back on the TV news but still watch the national stories, at least the ones I can stomach (a lot of that is junky, and there's a pun there, people who watch TV news are generally junkies).
