Yes, but would you then eat it?

I've always wondered about that stereotype. I have yet to meet a black person who doesn't love watermelon. It's just fascinating. I see nothing racist about it. I just laugh that it's the one stereotype (of any race, well besides asians and rice, but is that a stereotype or just now accepted fact? lol) that I have thus far seen go unbroken.

So only black people like watermelon now?
Black people stereotypically love watermelon, but no such stereotypes exist for whites.
I wasn't aware of this stereotype...
Glad I was not the only one, and I grew up in the south! All kids loved watermelon, blacks, whites etc.
What is it about the south that makes watermelon so popular? It is definitely something I've seen more in Southern folk, regardless of race.

I am black and I don't really like watermelon.

Liar, you must to have some black ancestors somewhere down the line.
Maybe, because I also really like the Rap music and Jell-o Pudding Pops.

Man I was this close to writing a parody for this thread but I'm afraid I'd get a ban with what I came up with. Someone please do it!

Dude, wake up and smell the irony.
This thread IS a parody . . . of itself!

I got home from college today to spend a couple weeks in my hometown. My Dad was across the street helping our neighbors set some sort of "tent" thing up. The family had some relatives in and were barbecuing and hanging out by the pool. When I got there, my neighbor walks out with a piece of watermelon, and I responded "Mmm, you got some watermelon!" The wife offered me a piece, and I got me a piece.
Later on, I realized what I said and hoped I didn't come off as racist. The neighbor family is black by the way.

Down south, its a well known stereotype. At the same time, EVERYONE loves watermelon here.. to ask for it is no big deal, now if you had just walked up when offered and just blurted out, "Oh yes massa! I loves me some watamelon!" Then you may not have gotten a good response..

Every Southerner likes watermelon, fried chicken and BBQ. If they don't, they are a relocated yankee.

Is this a self image issue like groucho marx? - "if a club wants me, then I don't want them".
