I live next to a bunch of ricers.

I hate ricers because their fart pipes offend my ears. I also dislike people who are all talk and who don't have the balls(themselves and their cars) to back up what they say. Like i am going to believe that a civic trapped 120mph with nothing but a stock motor and 'racing' ignition wires

that is what bugs me. That and they are just damn fugly :disgust:

I don't make fun of them, I just think it's a waste and I laugh at them. If you are going to mod your car or buy some rims, don't get the chromed out UGLY rims just to get chromed rims. See, a "rice boy" is one who mods their car just to say they have modded it.

For instance, a ricer will get ugly rims, ugly body kit, ugly decals, a racing stripe, and altezzas just to say they have put 5 mods on their car. Instead they could have gotten some NICE rims and a NICE body kit and taken their time with the mods. Ricer's dont take times with mods. THey want it all at once, and that is why they get cheap/ugly looking mods. Get some that just look nice.

But like I always say ... to each their own. It's their car so they can do what they want.

I live in MI where riced out cars aren't as plentiful as on the West coast, so maybe I don't understand. My question is, just because some guy has stickers on his car, lowers it, puts a fart pipe on his car, and tints his windows, doesn't mean he thinks his cars faster/better than yours. That's where the insecurity seems to take place. Seriously, who cares? I admit a funny looking car is worth a chuckle or two, but when people are like, "oooooooo i hate ricers!!!", I dungetit.

I never even knew what riced out cars were until I started reading forums on the Internet. None of my friends knew what riced up cars were. I rarely see them around here! Is it a big "problem" elsewhere?

because the general ricer mentality is that they are gods of the street. They have recockulous stories about killing corvettes and camaros, and they are just full of bullsh!t in general. I know this because i sell those body kits, wings, fart pipes etc. to them. A guy will come up to the parts counter and be bragging to his friends how this new chrome tip is going to add 40hp to his escort

it's the same thing as people buying shoes making them think it makes them better at basketball.

LOL, I drive too much It seems like in Sterling Heights, there's a huge population of white teens who drive around mom/dad's SUVs

About 4 years ago I bought a black '98 Honda Prelude. It was a 5-speed manual w/ about 195HP. I think it was like 160-170HP at the wheels. It was a blast to drive. I had a friend who was from the west coast who showed me all the junk people were doing to their Hondas out west. I wanted to do something, but keep it clean and simple. I tinted the windows, and got a rear wing spoiler that was raised a little off the trunk. About 3-4" up. Not as high as a Type-R wing. I also got red Honda emblems (which got jacked ) No body kit and just stock 16" wheels. I never raced it at a track, but I had my share of stoplight runs and beat my share of Mustangs So, by definition, was I a "ricer"?

What the hell does my post (or ricing in general) have to do with Asians? It has nothing to do with race, people of all races have been guilty of ricing out cars. BTW I don't hate ricers, but I think they're fiscally inept/challenged(and they waste their money on useless crap like body kits and huge wings) and then I get annoyed when they buzz in front of the house 20 times a day with those damn exhausts. If you're gonna put a loud exhaust on a car put it on something like a Mustang Cobra, not a Civic!!

Some people get these "sub-compact economy cars" because it's a challenge to make them fast and to make them nice. Instead of going out and buying a bigger engine like all the domestics do, they have to work with a small engine to make it powerful. I think it takes more time and skill (assuming they plan the mods) to extract power from a 1.6L then it does from dropping in a 5.0L powerhouse. Domestics = big engines, loud noise, lots of power. Imports done right = small engine, moderate noise, lots of power. Just because some people "rice" out their car doesn't mean you need to generalize against an entire catagory of cars.

It's been my personal experience that the people in general who own such vehicles are discourteous drivers who are more liable to cause collisions because of a sort of "God of the road" mentality that seems prevalent in ricers culture. Often it is 17-23 year old males who are in the high insurance demographic to begin with. Not all, just the majority from what I have seen.

Oh, friend of mine with a Mazda Protegay '92 SE automatic has the following "mods" done to his car:

Racer seatbelt covers
Racer floormats
Racer seat covers
Stereo system (2 Infinities, 2 JVC's, AIWA CD player, no amp, no sub, doesn't sound too great)
Racer exhaust (or bumblebee exhaust if you will)
K&N airfilter
new exhaust piping

This guy failed his driver's test three times before he finally got it, one of those times was because he totaled his rental car in an accident. Since then he's gone into a ditch, knocked off the front bumper of his old accord, rear-ended a sunfire, and recently almost went flying off a cliff.

Another friend of mine's been modding a Suzuki Swift automatic, which I'll admit actually looks nice now (if slow as hell):

Tinted windows
alloy wheels (or "mags" if you want but I only call real mags mags)
2 10" Pioneer subwoofers powered by 700W amp
and I think 2 pioneer 6x9's in the rear

Again, it looks decent and the new wheels definately improved the handling, but 70hp in an automatic swift? :disgust:

Very much like how I modded my Integra GSR, which has 20% tint all around and 17" Momo Arrows with 205/40's (sorry at work, no pics right now).

I hate rice because it is stupid. I see people who take otherwise nice cars (like mine or that VW) and mod them to the point of being gaudy and ugly. It's like they're holding a vanity competition to see who can waste the most amount of money in order to have the ugliest, stupiest looking car. Like this newer Dakota 4x4 I saw on the way to work this AM that had been slammed to the ground and riced... WTF is with that??
Then there is the rice where they take a $5,000 Civic HF and drop $10,000 in stupid mods on it and then expect me to appreciate their financial stupidity. No, thank you. I'm not upside-down in my car and not going to be. It's paid off.
It certainly has nothing to do with race, as most of the ricers I see are white just like me.

I already gave my definitoon of "ricer". Fast japanese car (even modified) is not automatically ricer. It becomes a ricer if it has some of these:

Oversized, useless wing
Stickers, stickers and more stickers
lowered suspension
Altezzas
bad-boys
Neon lights

Optional:

subwoofers

The important thing to ask yourself is that are the modifications done in good taste?
