:disgust: I just wish people would make their definition of ricer known...not all imports are slow and annoying. Not all CIVICS are slow and annoying, though most are associated as such.
How's this: Someone who modifies their car in a way that is detrimental to it's original design or performance.

1. Adding a wing to a vehicle that is never going to go fast enough to notice any aerodynamic gain. Same for body kits. If it's just a little 4-banger under the hood then that extra 300 lbs of fiberglass you've just bolted on is just going to cost you gas mileage.

2. Removing stock tail lenses to replace them with smoked lenses. HELLO!!! Those aren't just nifty little Christmas lights that the manufacturer added for decoration. Taillights are there to signal your intentions to the drivers behind you, whether you're stopping, turning, or backing up. By putting in clear or smoked lenses in place of the originals you're reducing the effect of the lights. Now, if you want to add super-bright LEDs in place of the standard bulbs because they are more easily seen then more power to you.

3. Cutting springs, swapping out for little-bitty rims, etc., in order to lower the vehicle just decreases the handling capabilities. Especially if you opt for the offset rims that put half the tire outside of the wheelwell. Yes, you've widened the wheelbase a little but the extra stress on joints, bearings, etc. is going to break things down faster in the long run.

4. Adding a coffee-can exhaust tip. Let's all keep in mind that mufflers are required on cars because they lower the noise pollution of an internal combustion engine. Now, what's the point in screwing a megaphone to tailpipe just to offset the muffler?

To me, ricers are just as bad as the kid wearing pants with the waist sagging around his thighs. You all know who I'm talking about. Sure, he thinks he's cool. His friends probably tell him he's cool, too. But while I watch him hitch up his pants every two steps I'm laughing like crazy. If it's a mod or trend that makes no sense then I'll just pass it on by, thank you very much.

Rice and asians is what I'm getting at. Like the term "rice picker" is a derogatory term that some people call asians ... so, asian cars = ricer .. to me, it's a racial slur, just like "wigger" .. (a white person who dresses black, it's racial cause it stems from the word n!gger) .. rice is racially implied, that's what I'm getting at. I'm sure you guys don't hate asians or anything, but you must realize the racial connotations of the term ricer....

ricer = asian
asian = rice picker

got it? You can see how they are connected or not? There is nothing wrong with making your car look nice. You might not like it, but that's because esthetics are a subjective thing, just like some people might not like the looks of your girlfriend, you don't like the looks of a "riced" up civic. Is someone gonna say something about your ugly girlfriend? Or your ugly mom? (if that's the case, not saying it is, all hypothetical here) ..??? Probably not, so refrain from childish insults of other people's cars, they belong to those people and they can do whatever the fvck they want to them with their own money. But yeah, I guess saying "that is one ugly civic" is fine as long it's not directed at the owner. I guess if we were standing at a parking lot I would probably say sh!t like that too .. but yeah, the racial thing is all I was saying.

Only problem with your definition is your underestimating the fourbanger. What about the 1300 hp Top-Secret Supra that reached a speed of 249 mph using an inline-four. Sounds like he could use a large spoiler, and he's using a four-banger.

is it a racial thing or what? Like when Bobby or Vinny supe up their mustangs it's okay, but when an asian kid tricks out his car, it's not okay? Why does it have to be about performance? Who cares if some goon blows all his money on lights and useless sh!t?

maybe... people think that it's cool to hate ricers.
:)

in any case... i think it's dumb.

unless they are making some ridiculous amount of noise... (i'd say mustangs or harleys probably make more)
why get pissed of at these ricers for their fake stickers?

it's one thing to laugh at their cars...
but it's a whole another thing to hate them for doing it.

I don't think it's a hate or race issue. I'd have to say that most of us just think that it looks ridiculous (and yes, we do laugh at you). But if you (or your parents) want to spend all that money because you're so insecure that you have to try to look cool, even though you don't, then so be it. You're helping our economy and helping me laugh.

IMHO, those who go out of their way to make fun of ricers are insecure as well. I mean....who cares?

I don't see how placing a post on a forum is going out of anybody's way. If that's the case, maybe you're insecure too. And everybody else in here...

But really, it is just my opinion that it looks ridiculous but like I said before, if anybody wants to waste their money on mods that don't do anything, then go right ahead. I'm not telling these people to stop. So if you think that someone's opinion can be interpreted to insecurity, then you need to learn a little more about life.

All I'm saying is check out any "ricer vs domestic" forum or thread (even in ATOT). I've never participated in any sort of flamefest, but people seem to get their panties in a bunch.....

I'll take these one at a time. I've never heard the expression "ricer" described as a racial slur derivative of the term "rice picker". However, I've frequently heard it referred to as being derived from the phrase "rice burner". This description popped up 20-30 years ago to describe import vehicles, primarily motorcycles, being dumped in the US. I say dumped because in many cases the manufacturers sold them in the US for less than the cost of manufacture, causing domestic sales to slump and as a result bankrupting many US vehicle manufacturers. If you take it as an insult it's not insulting your race, just insulting the business practices of some of your vehicle manufacturers.

Agreed, but why would someone care if someone else did this to *their own* car?

Plenty of new cars come with clear lenses in the back, so the "safety" argument doesnt make sense.

3. Cutting springs, swapping out for little-bitty rims, etc., in order to lower the vehicle just decreases the handling capabilities. Cutting springs is stupid but I dont think that's exactly common. Most "ricers" will at least get a drop properly done.

4. Adding a coffee-can exhaust tip. Let's all keep in mind that mufflers are required on cars because they lower the noise pollution of an internal combustion engine. Now, what's the point in screwing a megaphone to tailpipe just to offset the muffler?

I hear this often but motorcycles and big ole trucks make far more noise than any ricer does.

When it comes to ricers, about 98% of th population think that the cars suck. The remaining 2% are ricers themself, so their opinion is biased by default ;)

If you want a definition of a ricer, check the link I added to my previous post.

This is what I'm talking about too .. how much does it really bother people? It's not their car, yet they care so much. I've heard people say things like, "Damn chinese kids have too much money" .. etc etc .. I'm sure that for some people it is a racial motive that causes them to dislike ricers.. and for a lot of others it's a subconcious prejudice that they can't even understand themselves .. ricer is derogatory, and I think it's meant to be.

This kills me. Any time a thread pops up about the ridiculousness of the average ricer, I hear about a super-special make/model that can do 0-60 in 3 nanoseconds. I couldn't care less. I'm not underestimating the four-banger, as I stated above the cars I described have mods that impair, not improve, performance. I'm talking about all of the foolish looking, overly-modded cars out there that make approximately 58 peak HP being driven by a 17-year-old kid who doesn't have enough money to paint the body kit he bolted on last year.

It's a free world. You're free to 'rice' your vehicle as much as you want to, just as I'm free to laugh at you every time I see you on the highway/drivethru/mall, etc.

Physical appearance & intelligence: no
Clothes: yes

Hell, I laugh at those (well, not to their faces of course ;)) wannabe gangstas with ridiculous hip-hop clothes. After all, they choose to look like that. But physical appearance is another matter.

If someone chooses to modify his car to look like crap, then he can expect people to laugh at him and his car.

I don't think any of the things you've listed above should be compared as they are rarely, if ever, intentional. However, adding performance-oriented mods that impair performance is not only intentional, it's irrational. And yes, I think it's OK to laugh at you if you do it, just as I will if you wear clothing that impairs your ability to move because you want to 'look' cool.

i dont see why u can laugh at someone b/c he modifies his car, or his clothes, but not because he's too skinny/fat/stupid. if you're skinny/fat then hit the gym, stupid then go to school/get a tutor. those can be changed too. you guys are just rude and TRY to be politically correct at the same time.

Sure thing, bucko. If you want to punch me in the face because I laughed at your car, more power to you. If I'm in turn inclined to return the favor I hope you're just as generous. Boy, talk about people that need to be more accepting of their surroundings. Give me a break, people. It's just transportation we're talking about here. If you want to drive funny transportation then I'll laugh at you. If you try to hit me I probably will stop laughing, but then I'm going to have an irrational urge to pound you into the ground.
