You are correct. This is classic liberalism. Now the word has been hijacked and there is much that is illiberal about the modern liberalism
What do you think of the actions of our government post 9/11, domestically and internationally?
I see you dipshits are back to trying to define words as you want. Funnily enough its also you dipshits that throw those words around the most, yet you can't even seem to actually agree on a definition for them, and then you expect other people to accept and use your constantly changing definitions. I do have to chuckle that you guys seem to think that liberal socialism is somehow economic conservative, or that "fiscal conservatives" are somehow actually economic liberals.
One of the biggest things I'm "afraid" of is the USA becoming as overcrowded as many of the shitholes these people are fleeing...and of them bringing their problems with them...instead of leaving them behind, becoming Americans, assimilating into whatever you want to call "American culture," and embracing American problems...let them fix their own countries...or run to someplace that wants unrestricted immigration of unskilled workers. Wait...there aren't any...or at least, none as rich as the USA.
Yet, at no time in my almost 50 years of voting, have I EVER voted for any candidate in any race with a (R) attached to their name. I despise DJT perhaps as much as anyone here...even though I might agree with some of the things he said in his campaign. (of course, it was all just talk to stir up his base...even Ray Charles could see that, but still, he had the balls to say it. MAGA? That implies that America wasn't already great...and I believe it was. He's not done a fucking thing to make it better.
I'm an American. This may be a nation of immigrants, and has been right from the start, (although some of my ancestors would disagree with allowing that) but as long as there are Americans who are out of work, we really should restrict the numbers of immigrants we let in...and heavily restrict what employment categories they might fill. Welcome with open arms those who bring education and job skills that will make the country a better place...and who won't be a drain on this country's resources.
America should not be the world's police force nor it's refugee camp. Let the rest of the world take care of themselves.
And how will that happen? We have plenty of land, and lots of immigrants do very well in rural areas. In fact, they're probably the only thing that can save much of the rural towns from dying like so many of them are. The problems that America has had a major role in making?
Ok, so you want them to assimilate into a culture but don't even know what that is? WTF? Seriously, WTF, do you fucking listen to yourself? "Guys, I want you to follow this stuff, now I don't have damned clue what that is, but you better follow it or else you don't deserve basic humanity!"
Holy fuck...Boomer, I have no idea why this issue turns you into a complete and utter dumbass, but for some reason it does. Your posts about this have routinely been dumber than even the most hate filled racist fucking idiot conservatives on here. And that's a pretty damn low bar to get under.
Weird that you say the US doesn't want unskilled workers, since Americans sure seem to want to get paid well while being less skilled than many of the immigrants they're bitching about taking their jobs (I've encountered a fair amount of people saying the same stupid shit you are about the Indian people working for Intel). Actually lots of industries are going "we need more workers, no skills required, we'll gladly train you" because Americans won't do those fucking jobs for the pay, and Americans aren't willing to do what is necessary to get the pay to be worth a damn for those jobs. Now, certainly not all Americans are that way, but the ones bitching the most by and large are some of the least educated and least skilled people there are. Using the argument of people bringing value, well since you're letting more and more of that be controlled by a smaller share of the people, hope you realize what happens if you let that type of mentality run amok.
Your argument is so cartoony villain that its almost the same, but actually arguably more evil than Thanos' argument for why he wants to kill half the population of the Universe in the Avengers' movie.
That's the thing, you despise him all you want, but your argument is the same as his on this issue. Likewise, you say you've never supported Republicans, yet here you are parroting the claims they've been making for the past 50 (er make that more like 70) years as to why they're enacting the policies they are.
Guess what, you do that and you are doing exactly the thing you're worried about. Because Americans are showing they are not willing to put in the work to get the education for the jobs. Those positions just won't get filled at all then.
What? What ancestors are you even talking about? Why would I give a shit what some probably racist dumbfuck ancestors of yours had to say? What a bizarre thing to interject. Um, how the fuck are you going to do that when a big part of the problem is that Americans aren't qualified for the jobs, and don't want to put in the effort to become qualified for them? If you restrict people coming here, you're going to end up doing exactly the thing you're worried about. Let alone when viewpoints like that are openly being touted in incredibly racist and bigoted ways. You're actually causing those people to not want to come here, and you're causing the ones that were already here to want to leave. You do realize that a big part of the reason for the US' success is that they brought in people and educated them, and then those people decided to stay here? Plus if you start demanding that the people already be educated and qualified, that just means your education system is going to languish because its going to start losing access to the students that help further it. Your fix would actually help other countries and hurt the US. You do realize that one of the major reasons people come here is because of the education right? And you realize that Americans aren't going to magically fill the void, we're just plain going to lose out on those educated people. Plus, do you really want to give corporations another reason to outsource as much as possible too? Plenty of them were already making those arguments to explain why they were, and you think closing ourselves to people wanting to come here to learn is going to improve that?
And that's the problem with your argument. You think those people have no value. That is fucking horrendous mentality. I full on guarantee you that a significant amount of them are smarter than you are and more capable of making this a better country. Should we boot your ass out? Especially since you're retired, right? So you're just a drain on our resources while adding nothing yourself (based on your thought process). But what about the work you did? Because immigrants haven't contributed anything to the US? Its not like we built the country on the backs of their labor or anything...
You do realize that immigrants actually tend to help the economies of the places they go to, right? What resources are they draining? The resources that the "real" Americans are using at extreme rates? Oh no the immigrants are coming to eat all our food, whatever will the great American fatass do?!? (Actually immigrants are a big part of the reason why our agriculture industries are still very strong.) Or the ones that we're selling wholesale?
Ok, well then you better get used to America ceding its place, because you do realize that America being the World Police is the reason why America became a superpower and had such a dominant position in the world, right? You can't have it both ways. Exactly the same with refugees. Without that you wouldn't have a fucking country in the first place.
Why don't you go ahead and complete your argument? Tell us how the black people here should be so fucking grateful that we brought their ancestors here to be slaves. Also, remind them how much better they had it when they were slaves. At least then they had value to people like you. Hmm, maybe if we start letting immigrants in as long as they agree to provide value in the form of labor and until they fulfill it they should be beholden to the people they work for. I can't take credit for that idea, it was really your idea. Oh, now I get your remark about what your ancestors thought. Guess you don't deserve credit for thinking up slavery, you're just running with the ideas of your ancestors.
