This might be the thing to get Rump to reverse his policy.

Why? He's tore up and shit on any other form of good will towards allies. Why stop here? You can't get into a mud fight with a pig. The pig enjoys it.

Hard to see how anything along these lines would not run afoul of the Flores settlement.

Because if there is something Trump loves it is being given trophies. He is the poster child for participation trophies.

I'll take that bet. Five months of zero tolerance border control in exchange for a potential loss in the polls (which could have happened anyway) where we'll revert back to catch and release; or alternatively cave and revert back to catch and release now five months earlier? That's quite the incentive.

Have it your way then, haha.

The intention is clear. Tear families apart when it's unnecessary to blackmail Democrats. Child abuse as politics. There are solutions to problems but this rests entirely on Trump. That I support rational legislation does not mean I endorse this horror nor that I think it can be done nearly as quickly as reversing this cruelty. Even some Fox people get it

Oh, not about the condemnation, but he might want to go for the Prize.

Who is going to challenge it? Let me guess. Do it then have Sessions fight it in court.

Willfully violating the consent decree will 110% draw lawsuits. I assume the DOJ will defend the new EO or policy, how I don't know. For the life of me I don't comprehend how this idea would conceivably survive a court challenge.

In other related news there is no plan to reunite the children they separated with their parents:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/no-clear-plan-yet-on-how-to-reunite-parents-with-children

MCALLEN, Texas — Trump administration officials say they have no clear plan yet on how to reunite the thousands of children separated from their families at the border since the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy in which anyone caught entering the U.S. illegally is criminally prosecuted.

“This policy is relatively new,” said Steven Wagner, an acting assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services “We’re still working through the experience of reunifying kids with their parents after adjudication.”

Just how fucking stupid and incompetent do you have to be to implement a policy that requires separating parents and children without considering how to un-separate them.

Ahhh I see the issue now.

Undocumented children being held have a right to a bond hearing according to the Ninth Circuit. Just opens a new can of worms.

I asked the very same question earlier for the same story. The answer... planning? What's that?

I can take my daughter to Chuck E Cheese and we both get bracelets saying we belong together. Apparently they are more competent than ICE.

Republican Senators have also voiced support for the bill, or at least they had prior to their session with Trump and the introduction of 2 bills in the House. Let's see how things shake out, but I expect Trump will signal his displeasure (read: veto) for any bill that doesn't fund his
wall.

And that is why he is keeping children hostage.. cause he needs 60 votes in the senate for anything "Wall"
Children for "The Wall" .. is all its about. What a *.
Republicans could pass any bill right now with no wall in it and wouldnt need a single democrat.
Terror. This is Terror.

Whoops! Missed that. You beat me to the punch!

But yes, I agree. I feel like the Trump administration's incompetence is usually a good thing in that it generally makes it harder for them to implement their evil policies. In this case though it looks like their incompetence made their evil policies even worse.

So, Ryan is going to try and bail Trump out of the self-imposed freak'in mess he got himself into with this separating parents from kids horror show by passing legislation that really didn't need to be passed in the first place and then Sessions is going to fight it based on precedent? That's some really funny shit right there.

And I suppose Trump be like: "You see the mess the Democrats caused? All of this pain and suffering is the Democrats fault. These Democrat crooks! We tried to pass legislation to fix what the Democrats did and the Democrats, yes the Democrats, these dirty Democrats, the evil Democrats are preventing it from happening!! I was following Democrat laws and the Democrats caused this suffering those crooked Democrat Obama and Hillary did this. It's the Democrats OK? The Democrats! Remember that folks. Democrats! Not me. I tried to stop them!"

I want this fixed you fucking moron.

By fixed you mean your ransom paid and brown people seeking to come to the US fucked over for the long term.

If you really wanted THIS problem fixed you be doing nothing more than calling the administration on the carpet and demanding they change their policy choice.

The fact that you're pushing bills that go FAR beyond what is necessary to end the forced separation of families says that you are really interested in using this shit show to get some kind of win.

At least be honest about what you really want you lying fuck.

The $64 question here is "Will Democrats support legislation to actually fix the problem?" I say no.
As Doc so eloquently puts it the republicans are the absolute definition of fucking incompetent. With control of both houses, the presidency and the Supreme Court cannot use government to do the right thing.

They must rely on the Democrats to do it. So even if this wasn’t evil shit that they themselves implemented they still have proven yet again how utterly out of their depth they are.

Vote them all out. Every single one.

"The Wall" needs 60 votes in the senate .. That is what this is all about and why repubs cant pass it alone.

Can we all just agree that this policy is just across the board stupid, thus why no other administration has pursued it?

I heard something this morning on NPR that during the Obama administration only 10% of border crossers were held and prosecuted but that 10% of prosecutions accounted for 50% of all federal cases in the US. In order to prosecute them all under the zero tolerance policy this administration is pursuing with the same speed as today (which today is already painstakingly slow) you would need to increase the federal court system size but about 5x roughly.

The $64 question here is "Will Democrats support legislation to actually fix the problem?" I say no.

so are you arguing that legislation is needed to fix the policy that the administration chose to enact all on their own?

Do you realize that the only thing needed to fix this is for Trump to just end it, and it will end instantly?

There is no law on the books, anywhere, that compels the administration or anyone to behave in this monstrous way. Do you understand that, or are you confused about something?

There are TWO bills and one is clean...please stop this insanity. This can be easily fixed....assuming, of course, that Democrats actually want to fix this problem.

"Holding babies hostage in order to compel the opposite party to fix a problem that your own party created."

This is the kind of thing you endorse, asshole. Own it. It isn't any other way.
