Sure, it is Congress fault for not foreseeing that an administration would take these laws and apply them the most draconian way possible.

Remember these are misdemeanors we are talking about. We should probably change every law in the nation because they could all be used this way. Zero tolerance policy on public intoxication! You get caught intoxicated we put you in jail to await trial and put your kids in a cage. No bail allowed. Also, this is going to overload the courts and your trail will not take place for 4-8 months. At the end of it you will be released, so will your kids, not but not together. It is up to you to figure out where they are and collect them.

What law are you referring to?

The current policy for decades was catch and release. Until very recently (ie 4 month ago) the courts prevented US officials from holding illegal immigrants indefinitely. Thus the policy was to release these people and arrange for a court visit in the future particularly as the courts were pretty swamped. This allowed people time to get a lawyer and actually make a case for asylum. Some asylum courts are booked solid for years and the current US case backlog is something like 600,000 cases and growing, through the rate of growth has been slowing.

I'm not sure what law you're referring to.

Law or laws surrounding illegal entry. I get catch and release has been the policy over the last two administrations, for practicality reasons. I guess it would be impracticable for laws to cover every possible outcome. Its unfortunate Trump chose this direction.

As usual there is a third way. I understand that "catch and release" into the US is unacceptable to many. I also understand that separating families is the very face of cruelty and there is no legal requirement.

Instead of arguing for a monument to Trump, that is the Wall, detain people in humane facilities and hire the necessary number of people to process those attempting to cross the border. The DHS budget is almost 41 billion and the additional amount necessary would be insignificant compared to the total.

Has ANYONE proposed this?

Lol! You do know who is the president, right? This is the administration that can't even get on the same page with regard to talking points, let alone thoughtfully plan out and execute actual policies.

The administration's objective with this policy is to deter people, though terror, from coming to the US either illegally or via asylum. Not to take care of the people that are coming. Zero percent chance Trump would allow this.

Pain and cruelty are features of this strategy not bugs.

I understand that. Now have the Democrats proposed what I just did? It seems obvious to me, a way to have security and people treated well and get timely due process. I just don't recall this being proposed. It may have been but I don't know so I'm asking the question. The Republicans are a given in this horror.

There are a number of proposals floating around on this. I think at least one R has basically proposed this very thing. WH isn't interested.

There are some Reps who hate this even if the majority furrows eyebrows. I'd think it would be a good idea to write a clean bill, call on Republicans who might be receptive and push loudly. Replace Jesus and the Constitution on the painting with Pelosi and this bill, so to speak, and literally go out in public with agreeable parties and hold this up at the door to the WH. "We offer security and humanity, something those behind these doors do not offer nor care about".

This is an Achilles heel that shouldn't be attacked with a paper spork. Do good and be SEEN doing it. November matters.

Listened/watched enough of his campaign speeches. If anything the full context of his delivery makes him sound even more batshit.
