I'm beginning to think this inherent dislike of overweight people might be partly genetic. We're jealous of their obvious ability to find and consume more food, and they're a threat to our survival in a world with limited food. Right? Why else would we care? Look at some of the vicious stuff that's been said in this thread :/

Props to all of us who are at least trying. I know it isn't easy (LORD DO I KNOW!), especially when everyday at work I'm surrounded by cows who graze constantly on fast food and sweets and some (not all, but some) constantly complain about gaining weight!
Yep you have to distance yourself from those people :) I've found to great personal surprise, that as mrsskoorb has gained weight from pregnancy, that I've had a woefully lackluster interest in working out myself. I've been lifting for a decade and int he last month worked out less than I ever have in a month's period since I started. It's quite interesting to me, as I thought I'd be immune from that "husband gaining weight too" thing. I've had enough time to observe myself though, and today I'm rekindling my previous fervour.

What if they have some kind of medical condition that prevents them from exercising?
very few people have that and most of those that do it's self-inflicted

no one is disputing that it is genetic where fat is placed. but your story doesn't show that the fat you have is due to genetics.

Once it's done, does it matter who inflicted it? Come on, people, most of the diseases that kill us are self inflicted to one extent or another.

Look, I'm a libertarian, so I'm not asking you to pay for the irresponsibility or misfortune of others. I'm only asking for a little understanding and POSITIVE encouragement. Making fun of obesity is like kicking a man while he's down... you're only making it worse.

BTW, did you know the number one reason overweight people wont join gyms or exercise outside? Immature people who ridicule them.

Explain how some people can eat anything and everything, and not gain a pound, while others can eat a moderate diet and gain weight like crazy.

A good case in point are Samoans. No matter what they eat, they blow up like crazy. For some people, it IS genetic. They cannot lead the same lifestyle as others without gaining weight. And by the time they learn this, it's usually too late... they're fat.

Mwildthing posts your pic Mr. 12,000+ posts and is in perfect health.

Fuasto , you also Mr. 16,000 posts

Minendo, 24,000+ posts .....

Actually, I find it hard to belive that you three making rude comments are not lard asses . You apparently have trouble backing away from the computer, and being that you spend so much time on the computer and not exercising, I am willing to bet that your keyboard resemble a lunch buffet with all the food crumbs in it, from you stuffin your face for you're too damn lazy to back your collective lard asses from the computer to eat a healthy meal.

Me thinks it is a safe bet that you three are fat. But you know I could care less if you life is shortened for being fat, for wheather you die right now as your read this post or if you die 30 years from now ... your life has no impact on mine .. so be fat, be happy and die whenever you want .... it doesn't matter.
Bad news bud. I race bikes in my spare time. I ride an average of 200-300 miles per week, not including my daily 16-mile round-trip mountain bike commute to work. Trust me, I practice what I preach. ;)

You shouldn't.
Riding bike's pinches the blood vessel to your penis and causes erectile disfunction.

These people might be able to lose weight at some point in their lives, but you ugly asses out there are SOL short of signing up for extreme makeover.

Do they have some kind of medical condition that prevents them from not eating so GD much?

Again, you can take two people, put them on the same diet and activity levels, and have one gain weight to the point of obesity, and the other not gain a pound. I was like the later when I was young. I could eat like crazy and not gain weight, yet my best friend would gain weight just looking at food.

Many cases of obesity are people who live their lives no differently than you. Others are people who keep a normal diet, yet become inactive thus causing obesity. And still others are compulsive over eaters.

My point here is, obesity is NOT that easy to pigeon hole...and to do so screams ignorance.

ElFenix, I may not have rock hard evidence, but the origins of my last name are proof enough for me that it is genetic. (see my first post)

There are a lot of things about my genetics that I can't prove, but that I am sure of none-the-less. A few in my family are predisposed to absurdly low cholesterol. Every time I get it checked by a new doctor I hear some comment about how I'm not eating right because it tested so low, but that's not the case. It is that was becase of my genes.

I don't understand why people can't just live and let live. I mean, I can't stand smokers. But I work with a bunch of smokers, and I'd never make fun of it ("haha! you're giving yourself cancer! stupid weakling, can't control a nicotine addiction!" or something).

their body, their choice. the fact that they smoke isn't going to affect me in any major way; same thing with obesity. eat whatever the fvck you want. it's not my place to play food police with you just because I may not like the way you look.

I tend to think it's a personal choice, though. that whole genetics line is bs -- you may be genetically predispositioned towards storing fat a certain way, but you can still counter your genetic disposition. But if you choose to be fat --- meh. your life, not mine. I wouldn't treat someone differently because of it.
