I have a joint in my wan cable can that affect anything

so the cable which comes in my home has a joint(cut and then joined using tape)
so will that affect anything?
my wifi router doesnt work due to that (internet guy said)
my internet speeds are slowed (same)
the internet guy said to change the cable
should i change the cable or is he trying to cheat me?

Yeah.....don't think a cut wire should just be taped back together. He's right, you should replace the cable.

How does the OP know that any advice he gets here isn't from someone in cahoots with the Internet guy?

This could be an important question to know the answer to.

You can only tape power cable.

So, yes, you have to change the internet cable.

Ha! I saw the title of this thread cut off after the word "joint," and wondered if they OP had taken us into the uncharted territory of "High Computing." Truth be told, this would be an established topic going back to the time I visited a friend in Largo MD, to fire up a couple J's and play Pack-Rabbit or some other game. That was in the 1980's. When I was young and fulla beans.

Sorry, I know this is the Networking forum, but I just couldn't resist. Perhaps-- because it's a "network" forum -- I got a "contact high."

Interior dry cable really shouldn't just be taped after it is cut and spliced. Exterior cable definitely should not. It needs to be repaired with a proper waterproof connector, or replace the entire cable.
