The title says it all....I started a new PT Job today, and I hate it.

I run my own business, Web design and PC repair, however it is just getting started
so I wanted to do something part-time to supplement things until I get on my feet with my business.

I applied and got hired for a PT Internet Store Assistant position with a local company that is 5 minutes away.

Pros:
1)They seemed really nice during the interview
2)Willing to be flexible with my schedule knowing I have my own business.
3)Although the pay is only $8.00/hr they mentioned that it would
include medical coverage because it would be 20 hours a week,
plus it is not much, but it is steady income and my other business
is sporadic right now even though it pays a lot more.

Cons: (First Day on the Job)
1) I get there-say "Good Morning" to the boss, she ignores me.
2) I go up to her, she says...."we can't give you the medical"
at 20 hours a week, but we probably won't use you more than 16 hrs a week anyway.
(Translation = keep me at less than 20 hrs....NO MEDICAL BENEFITS necessary)
She then says, "would you still like to proceed"? I decided to stay and give it a try.
3) I meet the lady who will train me, she's totally unfriendly and doesn't seem to like me being there much and is a total b**ch.
4) First thing, their printer won't print and I offer to fix it for them. I end up fixing it and getting it to run great. They say nothing.
5) I ask the lady who trained me today at one point if she liked her job, you should have seen her face like I had asked her if she liked baby vomit. Her reply was "I USED to, but not anymore because they make me do everything. I said, "that's why I'm here", she made NO comment and shrugged as if "whatever". Um...disgruntled perhaps?
6) I learned everything in a snap, and did a whole lot of extra things as well, taking initiative and getting everything done, and no one seemed to care.

There were a few more cons, but we will leave it at that.

What would you guys do? Its not like I'm desperate for the $ I just wanted something steady to do in my off time. The people there are NOT friendly or very nice for that matter and seem to almost resent my presence. I don't feel very comfortable or welcome. The job itself sucks, its monotonous and boring.

I'm thinking try it for a week, and if I still feel like this QUIT. I'm still looking for other work.

Or would you guys stick with it?

Any advice apprecitated, thanks.
*UPDATE*

I drafted an email to the company and sent it, if anyone would like to see it please PM me and I'd be happy to share it and have your opinion, thanks

Unless you are planning on writing about your experiences for comedy $$$, quit now and keep looking.

so quitting after one day is OK?

I've never done that before.

*edit* It sounds like you guys are feeling the same about my initial take on this job
and don't think its worth it.

id stick it out until you find something potentially better. or if its that bad, and you dont need the money too badly, quit now.

Never a good idea to stay where one is not appreciated. The benefits being pulled is sad, but does not surprise me any longer (it is growing commonplace).

Good luck.

You agreed on working 20 hrs plus medical coverage? Then they cut your hours and benefits the first day?
That's not exactly a good sign.

Leave NOW.

No one deserves that. Quit NOW, then take the time to write down the exact same things you said here, and email or mail them to the manager.

If you don't need the money, you quit now. That's the whole point of doing it *now*.

The company isn't out any money to train you, and you don't have to explain any gaps in your employment record when you next interview but don't want to use them as a reference or are not willing to admit to a potential employer that you quit after 3 months.

If you quit now it will be your little (and ATOT's) secret

You can tell them you want what was originally agreed upon, or else you walk. Or stay there until you find something better, surf atot all day.

So you guys just wouldn't bother going in tomorrow....and send them an email?

Is this appropriate? I haven't worked for someone else for so long, I have no idea
what the etiquette is.

Personally, I would feel bad about doing it this way, but I think I would feel worse
staying and putting up with the treatment.

Fvck that. Shove it up your boss's ass. And tell the dumb b1tch who trained you to pull the stick out of her's.

I'm tired, can you tell by the polite approach I took at the situation?

Hold that thought..

If you are running a business in the same area that may overlap customer base, it may be worth doing tactfully, just to minimize hard feelings. I.E. go in tomorrow when you are expected, tell them straight up that you have changed your mind and offer to work the day or week out if they need you.

Odds are pretty good they will be pissy anyway and you will get to go home right after you tell them, but it's no worse than phoning in, and couldnt hurt.

Sounds like a very sh!tty work environment. If you're not desperate for the money, then leave, you should't surround yourself with so much negative energy.

well if you ask me it's the right approach.. maybe not so harsh, but if you don't like it now, you prob. never will... so yeah, that's right, git 'r dun!

Just call the manager in the morning and explain that you no longer wish to work there...be polite and go on your way. :)
