if you worry about the people of the job, it's going to suck no matter what. If you like the job, just get the job done and go home. Don't worry about what other people think. As long as you're getting *your* job done. It seems like you are looking for a pat on the back for little things you do that aren't necessary that you do them. While that's not a bad thing to want, more often than not, you're going to get ignored for doing them anyway so you may want to just expect not to get recognized for going above-and-beyond --if you like what you're doing, anyway. It's just a job, though. Concentrate on getting the things done that you're being paid to do; do the things that you want to volunteer for (broken printer) but don't expect praise for it; don't plan on staying there long.
When it comes to things like the printer breaking or something, SOMEONE has to fix the printer. It HAS to get fixed. Why screw around waiting for the printer guy if you know how to fix it? Get it fixed and move on. Just like a lot of things. At my work, if I see that the floor needs to be vacuumed, why wait until the end of the week to do it? Get crap done, then take a few minutes and be proactive and vacuum the floor, not expecting to get a pat on the back. Like I said, sh|t's got to get done and it's better if someone ... you know... actually gets it done than someone standing around waiting for someone else to arrive and do it.
I'm babbling.
Anyway, just understand that you're there to do a job a few hours a day. Just go, do your job, and leave. The more you expect out of people, the more you're going to be let down. That is a universal constant. It never changes.
