I was just out to nearby local chain grocery shop and got approached by a transient if I wanted to buy a $200 walkman for $25.00, I told him, not a problem if he could produce a proof of purchase, but he blabbers about how I have his word that it wasn't stolen. My ass. He gets pissy with me and hangs around my vehicle. I don't want a damn transient hanging near my vehicle. I'd call the police on him for soliciting and intimidating if they'll do anything.. Instead I called up the security guard and they kicked him out and kept an eye near my vehicle.

Is there anything that can be done about keeping them out permanently? They have nothing to contribute and they shouldn't be allowed to trespass :|

And I suppose if he could show you a proof of purchase, you'd want him to accept returns if it was defective within 30 days?

nah..
$25 for $200 item is worth if with a proof it isn't a stolen property.

Ever heard the saying...

What you don't know won't hurt you?

And if you did need to return it, you could say it was a gift. Stop being a ass and posting all your "problems" in your holier than thou attitude.

Bastage.

I get approached by people almost everyday. Who cares?

If you're not interested in the walkman just say "no thanks". Why the fsck would you make a big deal out of it?

Transients on the street begging for money (or sitting there with a sign) do not get my respect or my cash. Either get a job or take advantage of the systems in place to help yourself. I have a good job, and worked hard to get where I am; if you choose not to do so also, fine, feel free to starve/freeze to death.

What about transients on STORE PROPERTY(by law, considered private property) right by the door, just out the sight from store crews?

Where is "Beat his ass, then steal his pants leaving him naked and bleeding in the street" as a choice? I don't see it.

Many of these 'downtrodden' have a good racket going. They are collecting full disability while begging for money eight hours a day. They pay their bills with disability check and use their begging money to stay reasonably intoxicated.

Has anyone actually offered a job to any of those people holding a sign that reads "Will work for food"? Yeah, they say "Uh...umm...I can't do that cuz I have a bad back" or "I can't lift anything over 5lbs because I was injured" or some other lame excuse. They don't want to work, they are betting you'll just give them money, and people do.

Why the hell do you care so much? What's wrong with just saying "no thanks"?

I don't understand what the big deal is.

That may be true but there are also "downtrodden" who are really downtrodden or have fallen on hard times somehow.

First of all, I'm almost certain the CD player he's selling is a stolen property and they're known to steal to get drunk. I see them as a danger to my property, which usually is my vehicle. I don't want transients hanging out near my vehicle, so I call the store security and get them kicked out.

i just love the ones that have the big dogs with them..where do they get the dogs, and man, what do they feed those dogs?
cause the dog's dont sure look intoxicated to me!!!!
Now, all i say to these people is,
"my uncle came to this country with 5 dollars in his pocket. Didnt speak english, and didnt know crap about the american culture....
yet, the man, after 3 years, had bough a decent house, and was living comfortably. If an immigrant can do that, then my friend, you speak the language,
you were born here, i dont see how in the world you're begging for money....."

They actually break windows and steal. Transients and bums commit alot of auto break-ins. He was drunk too. I'd call the police if they'd actually come out and arrest him(public drunkness) without asking me for more info than I want to give out...

Where do you get these break in statistics? Just made it up didn't you? The guy is not going to break your window in a busy grocery store parking lot. What does being drunk have to do with it?

Many people can't help being homeless anymore than gays can help being gay.

I didn't give any number, I said they do alot. I've caught them do it before and you'll see something on life of homeless on TV and they actually admit to camera they break into cars.

Just made it up didn't you?

Nope.

The guy is not going to break your window in a busy grocery store parking lot.

Parking lot was hardly busy. You just made it up didn't you? You can't state what he'll do and won't.

What does being drunk have to do with it?

If he's not drunk, it's hard to pursue charge upon him. The ordinance prohibits public intoxication and it gives me a legitimate reason to send the police after his ass.

Yep, because they're so busy collecting money and spending on drugs'n booze.

People from all walks of life are among the homeless. They are individuals and families, men and women, they are young children and elderly people. Forty to fifty percent of the homeless have high school diplomas and 24% are employed in either full-time or part-time work. This picture of the homeless is different from the elderly pan handler and hobo on skid row in the 1930's. The average age of the homeless today is 35 years old. Single men account for 51% and women alone account for 12% of the homeless population. As early as the mid-1970's families with young children have been the faster growing subgroup among the homeless and families with women as care givers make up 34% of the homeless population. African Americans and Hispanics account for 51% to 54% of the homeless population (Blau, 1992).

There are multiple reasons why people become homeless. Unemployment and lack of money causes many families to be evicted from their housing. They live with family and friends for a while then eventually end up in homeless shelters. Other reasons may be directly or indirectly related to employment status and money. People of color are a large proportion of people in poverty and thus account for over half the numbers of homeless people. People suffering from substance abuse accounts for one-third of the homeless and the mentally ill account for one-fourth to one-third of the homeless population. One-third of the male homeless population are veterans and a significant number of the homeless people lived in foster homes as a child.

Homeless hang out in busy places because there's more people and it's more likely they can get some spare change (or sell a walkman in this case). As opposed to grocery stores where nobody but Jerboy shops.

Quit being a drama queen and just say "no thanks" next time. Geez.
