I had two parents with late stage cancer, and now just one. Don't take this the wrong way, but unless these Friends and Family are hard up themselves, and/or you burned quite a few bridges, they sound a lot less like Friends and Family and more like acquaintances. I hope you've got at least a small few that can help you when you need it.

I didn't "burn" anybody,My parents are both dead, I have little in the way of extended family. Also, people can care about you but their own lives are complicated. Which child shall quit their job to change my diapers? The one with 3 kids or the one with 8 kids living in another state? Maybe my autistic kid can do it?

Who's going to give me money when they are working overtime themselves just to pay their house note?

To be honest, when I am no longer able to work I will probably by pass all the rest & elect for Death with dignity. Lying in my living room in a hospital bed screaming in agony while my poor husband attempts to cope doesn't sound like a good end to me.

I LOVE how you recognized yourself as the mush-brained leftist. :D You're one of the poster-children.

Hey, I was trying to give you an excuse. Startin' early today? Or just too many cups of steaming rage this morning?

Yeah, that's a tough road to hoe, sorry to hear you're going through that. :( Maybe move to the 3 kid child? Then you'd likely lose your job though, along with the healthcare bennies. But, stage IV you'd be eligible for Medicare so you'd have that...not sure how much help your autistic kid needs though. Tough situation for sure...

...don't begrudge you the Death w/ Dignity, I think that's a good way to go once someone is about to hit that point. Obviously don't go too soon, but, maybe give though to not waiting until you're bed bound. My dad was doing fair, and then he went very quick, within two weeks. Think that was the hardest part of his loss: We thought he was maybe on the mend, slowly, and then bam, you are EOL and hospice, good try but that's it. Plan it now so when the time comes the will, medical power of attorney, DwD, it's all setup and you/they just execute it.

I'm a large proponent of social benny reform, however if what you've described is accurate, this is the type of situation we need to be throwing more money at people and not less. I'm fine with my tax dollars helping someone actually (not, con job "actually") in this situation. What I'm not fine with is seeing an able bodied over 18 male, in newish clothes, trying to sell is Links card, then I'm behind him in line with this - also well dressed woman/mom - and 3/4 of the sh1t on the checkout conveyor is non-essential. I check out with my 3 things, walk out, and there they are loading up their 2013 BMW.

We need serious reform, so the people that need the actual assistance can get it with less hassle, and get more of it. But trusting the same Politicians to appoint the same department heads that will oversee this reform, is folly. We need sweeping changes, and it can't be from people that have been part of the system. The System is what has got us into this mess in the first place.

It's interesting how reading about an urban legend can convince people that they actually experienced it.

One of the problems with the current system is that a lot of people are too stupid proud to use it before they're desperate & end up as economic vulture food. Families can fall fast & hard in our high overhead society. We're also subject to forces beyond our control. You know, the whims of the financial elite & the business cycle like in 2008. Millions of people who were doing their jobs didn't have jobs anymore but they still had the same bills. Some of them got screwed half to death out of it, too.

Jhhnn, I've personally experienced that. More than once. I've given up counting or even paying attention to (which is exactly the type of behavior the Politicians and The Welfare System wants from its host, aka The Taxpayer) how many times I've personally seen abuse of welfare. I don't need to see the stats or some dumbf*ck Liberal Ph.D who needs to publish instead of perish (plus, the ego and political bent stroke) 'only 1% abuse!' "study", I can literally go to the local groceries, gas stations, 7-11, and see it first hand. How many times do you need to see someone with a Links card buying Pepsi and Cheetos in their non-rags, then drive away in their newish ride, before you realize that The System as it's presently setup is beyond broken?

One of the problems with the current system is that a lot of people are too stupid proud to use it before they're desperate & end up as economic vulture food. Families can fall fast & hard in our high overhead society.

Good thing we've kept less desirable blue collarlabor jobs at a resource starved level so people can easily pick something up to tide them over, and have it pay something, while they work on getting back on their feet! Wa-wa-what?! We haven't?! We've imported 10's of millions of non-necessary labor because they're 'Jobs Americans Won't Do!' and now nothing exists for people to fall back on? Mah-gawd, who'da thunk it?! Good thing we value helping non-Citizens over our own amirite?!

We're also subject to forces beyond our control. You know, the whims of the financial elite & the business cycle like in 2008. Millions of people who were doing their jobs didn't have jobs anymore but they still had the same bills. Some of them got screwed half to death out of it, too.

Busts are always going to happen, it's the nature of the game. If people would not buy 4000 sq. ft. houses, have two brand new cars (that they then sell after 4 years because, well, they're not new), every toy imaginable, etc., and instead lived within a much more sustainable means, they'd have a year or two of savings that would have seen them over in the lean years. That's not sexy though. Middle class girls need to watch HGTV and have all those things. Queue Peter who doesn't want to work so he has a construction company with a paltry few Citizens (if any) (usually family, close friends) who do the estimates/close the deal, so Raul the green card "foreman" can come in with the illegal crew (doing jobs of course Americans won't do!) and getting Suzy's HGTV project done for her so her husband Ron, who just doesn't want to listen to Suzy whine all day because she's not getting what she wants. Then Jhhnn loses his job because company A bought company B and doesn't need two backends doing the exact same thing, so company B backend folks go bye bye. Jhhnn of course still has to pay bills, so he tries to find work, but, what?!, we've outsourced/insourced our work - legally and illegally - to the benefit of Peter, Suzy, and Ron...what is Jhhnn going to do now? No fear unemployed Jhhnn! Here's a "study" which says that "immigration" leads to neutral or maybe slightly better economy! Read over it so you can Intellectual nod up and down with the professor who wrote it, you can sit in the bay window for good reading light...the one in your foreclosed 4000 sq. ft. house. Wifey will be back soon in the one non-owned car (hopefully it didn't get repo'd yet while she's at the store). You can call up the number on the roofing truck across the street at your neighbors (the one all the illegals came in) and ask if they're looking for people and they can tell you, Nope, we've got our crew for the summer. The illegals making money while you're sitting there jobless and broke will ensure you're in a very receptive mood to read professor Libtards amazing "immigration" justification paper. If your TV didn't also get repo'd yet, you can turn on PBS and listen to an engaging elite rail against Wall Street and you can yell at the TV in agreement....unfortunately, what you won't see televised is that same elite going to dinner with the same Wall Street and Big Bis types and rich laughing at your gulability.

Fail Fail Fail Fail...lets say I think all Blacks are lazy: What do you think 'highlighting all conservatives who agree with me' would do? Say you were able to do that...what then? Does the interwebz bestow upon you some prize? Does the constant cycling image of Billy Bob laughing at you suddenly disappear? Enlighten us on what you think you're accomplishing by attempting (and of course Failing) to accomplish, well, anything? (I promise I'm laughing at you either way, so really, you have nothing to lose) :D

Standard canned right wing rant, huh? You're hitting all the bases, that's for sure.

So, uhh, illegals are stealin' jobs in Pemiscot County, MO, huh? Really? Only 1.56% of the population is latino... or is this like Trump's 3M illegal votes, pure fantasy?

Cheetos? Pepsi? OMFG! The moral failings of people on food stamps! Fuck 'em!

I just wonder if you've ever noticed the self righteous chickenshit tendencies you display so openly. They don't look good on anybody.

The sad truth is that life for Americans in places like Pemiscot county would be very hard indeed without a variety of assistance programs. Commerce could easily collapse to a large degree. They're already among the people & places that the Jerb Creators dumped some while back. Don't need 'em, so fuck 'em. Just promise it'll all trickle down if rich people get more tax cuts. And, go ahead, shoot somebody- the faithful will still be held in thrall.

I don't know, since my "rant" was the display of Reality, I'm sure you didn't like it. Color me shocked...

So, uhh, illegals are stealin' jobs in Pemiscot County, MO, huh? Really? Only 1.56% of the population is latino... or is this like Trump's 3M illegal votes, pure fantasy?

No idea, I don't know a thing about Pemiscot County, MO. 1.56% is Latino? Great. Is that Reality or a count that doesn't count the shit ton of illegals who don't want to be counted? Lets say it's Reality...so what? Is Pemiscot County, MO hurting? If they are, why? Did the one major job source close up shop and move? Each situation is different. I don't blame everything on illegals but them being here sure as F doesn't help people who are looking for work.

Cheetos? Pepsi? OMFG! The moral failings of people on food stamps! Fuck 'em!

You mean, the reaching into my wallet by Politicians, via The System they create for those sweet sweet votes, which enable those voters to live outside their means at my expense? Correct. I don't care what they want, I only care what they need to survive. It should not be comfortable to live on public assistance, we want people off it, not miking it for as long as possible, and certainly not abusing it. They need a water at a gas station? Awesome, have at it. Luxuries? Get out of my wallet and you can have all the luxuries you want. Seems pretty fair to me. What problem again did you have with that?

I just wonder if you've ever noticed the self righteous chickenshit tendencies you display so openly. They don't look good on anybody.

You know what doesn't look good? Less money in my wallet, people living outside of their means at my expense, and the Dem Politicians in the state, a state with already high taxes, needing to tax more. Despite the powers that be getting every illegal, sorry, immigrant they can here to bolster the birthrate (and, of course, enjoy those sweet sweet indentured servant bennies), we have a negative population growth. I only feel sorry for IN, I know what will happen is what will happen to TX from the CA transplants...they'll F up the place they fled to.

The sad truth is that life for Americans in places like Pemiscot county would be very hard indeed without a variety of assistance programs. Commerce could easily collapse to a large degree. You don't get Medicare till two yrs after you draw your first SSDI check. Not much help.

Moving in with my daughter & her family isn't an option for a lot of practical reasons.

Hospice can be really good or it can be horrible.. I don't need a company that drops off a drug box, dumps a hospital bed in the living room & tells my husband, " see ya, wouldn't want to be ya"

Thing with death with dignity is the need to act while you can still physically swallow the pills but it sure beats turning your family into unpaid nurses there to witness your final horror show.

People who don't think this sort of thing happens, simply have not been around the environment. Its not a black thing, its not a white thing, it happens with all races. People sell EBT cards or other assistances for cash, trade for drugs, and abuse the hell out of the system. I have a close relative who does it every month. I have no problems giving assistance for those who need it. It is supposed to be temporary though, until people get back on their feet again. Not a life long, generational abuse. People who are actually disabled are different obviously. But then those on here think that getting VA disability is the same as getting an abuse of the system non VA disability. Which is pretty silly.

Are you sure about this? I remember my parents going to Medicare sooner than two years from when they got SSDI, but it's a blur, so maybe i'm wrong there. They had insurance also from the union (sort of), so not sure how that played a part.

Moving in with my daughter & her family isn't an option for a lot of practical reasons.

What about close though? Tough times call for people to suck it up...you can't be the only one to step it up.

Hospice can be really good or it can be horrible.. I don't need a company that drops off a drug box, dumps a hospital bed in the living room & tells my husband, " see ya, wouldn't want to be ya"

That is what they do, however, when it gets closer to the passing time the hospice we had did have round the clock care. They were good at reading my dads facial stress to see if he needed more meds or not. If you have to go that route, I'd make sure they give you the pain relief dose in the more concentrated form. It allows for less liquid to be injected into the mouth and can help with less raspy breathing...that helped my dad when we transitioned to that (and WhyTF they just don't have that to begin with, who knows).

Thing with death with dignity is the need to act while you can still physically swallow the pills but it sure beats turning your family into unpaid nurses there to witness your final horror show.

Respectfully, you birthed and raised these people and your husband married you, it's their duty whether they like it or not (unless you've pissed them off, that's what I meant about burning bridges earlier). If your kids husband needs help from his extended family to help watch the kids while your daughter comes to help for 2 months, then, tough F'ing shit, make it happen. I do get the DwD though, like I said, I don't begrudge anyone that. I think for those where going out hard is a real probability/certainty, and that time comes, saying goodbye on your terms in a condition they can remember you in can be a better deal than what you say. I don't envy your condition or decision but I wish you the best result possible.
