I agree.
Many people who don't take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their loved ones often think this way.

Not only that, they tend to think people who simply look out for their own safety are some kind of paranoid survivalist who would wet himself without his gun. Because there are no records of non-survivalists defending themselves with firearms in decent neighborhoods. None whatsoever.

Just to point out something to all you people that feel you need to arm yourselves for protection. The odds of a home invasion are actually about the same as being struck by lightning: 1 in 1,000,000.

The odds of being seriously injured in a car crash: 1 in 6500

You'd be safer if you stopped driving. You could even put up some lightning rods for extra security.

Some of you guys must live in really shitty areas.

I think that's a really shitty thing to say. Just because we all live in really bad neighborhoods where we have to own guns to protect ourselves doesn't give you the right to come on here and poke fun at us. With the economy the way that it is, most of us can't afford to just pick up and move away from the scourge of crime that's spread across most of our neighborhoods. You do realize that there's a big difference between being able to afford a $500 gun and being able to afford to move, right?

But hey, good for you. I'm glad you're so rich you can live in a crime free neighborhood. Jerk.

So there's only 300 burglaries in the US each year? Right :hmm:

My Taekwondo instructor said the same thing. He said we might have to use our training once in our lifetime but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

The ironing is deciduous.

Home invasion = someone coming into your house without permission. Therefore all burglaries are home invasions.

1:1,000,000 chance of being struck by lightning is derived from there being ~300 people struck by lightning per year in the USA (our population is around 300 million people).

Therefore he's claiming there are only approximately 300 burglaries in the USA each year.

Care to point out where I've gone wrong in my assumptions?

Get a job.

Real mature. When I grew up every house that we lived in either kept getting broke into and robbed or shot up on the block. And my mom was saving money for me in a jar, trying to start a piggy bank for me so I could go to college. It almost had a thousand dollars till someone broke in and stole it.

Sometimes there's no escape, there's just fending for yourself. :\

Did that break your mother's heart?

By and large there's no such thing as a "good" neighborhood outside of gated communities because the bad people from the shitty ones next door come into the bordering "good" sections. There are plenty of "safe" neighborhoods but none that are immune to robbery/crime should the criminal choose to do so. I don't like being at the mercy of a criminal's opinion of his odds, so sue me.

A lot of it can also vary by state. My state, Virginia, doesn't have parole. Which is one reason why much of the crime that's prevalent in DC hasn't spilled over the border.

No, home invasions...you know...where you would use a gun. Burglaries are generally when you're not home and they get to steal your gun.

How would they steal your guns when you put them in a holster and carry them with you when you leave home every day?
