I have a 5D maglite, 12" Blade custom made Bowie knife, 21" Collapsable ASP baton all within easy reach when im sleeping. I will have a shotgun within a year as well. I also took 8 years of martial arts(aikido).

My house has been broken into once, apparantly the ladlord upstairs(i was in the basement suit) had a grow op going in the garage on the side of the house and i didnt know about it. 3 armed individuals there to rob said grow op screwed up and entered my suit not the main house. I grabbed the 5D mag lite(only weapon like object i had in the bedroom at that time) when i herd the front door get busted open and was about to leave the bedroom and attack them as they were trying to open the door leading to the main house(i could see them through bedroom door as was cracked open 1"). Then my landlords dogs(both large 200+ pounders) came in through my now busted open front door and started attacking the intruders. Two of the intruders freaked out and ran but one armed with a pistol stayed and shot at both dogs, i ran out of the bedroom and basement suit when he was stopping to reload, i didnt want to go 5d mag lite vs gun. FYI both dogs lived and they chewed the one with the gun up real bad right after i fled.

This was in a "nice" neibourhood with very low crime.

Im not planning to be that unprepared next time. Im positive if i had attacked the intruders before the dogs arrived i would probably have ened up getting shot, next time i plan to have a gun to shoot first.

You did the right thing, even if I had my guns I wouldn't confront the bad guys unless they threatened me or my family directly. Unfortunately I have a full house and if we had a home invasion someone would come face to face with the bad guy(s).

That's a bad situation. I lived in a very nice area and still kept an FN-PS90 w/ surefire and a sig p228 next to my bed. Now that I live on a military installation, I don't even lock my doors, nevermind keep guns loaded and nearby.

Why isn't Nebor banned for using the word 'sav***' yet?

Probably because you should learn to use a dictionary:

sav·age

[sav-ij] adjective, noun, verb, -aged, -ag·ing.
–adjective 1. fierce, ferocious, or cruel; untamed: savage beasts.

2. uncivilized; barbarous: savage tribes.

3. enraged or furiously angry, as a person.

4. unpolished; rude: savage manners.

5. wild or rugged, as country or scenery: savage wilderness.

6. Archaic . uncultivated; growing wild.

–noun 7. an uncivilized human being.

8. a fierce, brutal, or cruel person.

9. a rude, boorish person.

10. a member of a preliterate society.

–verb (used with object) 11. to assault and maul by biting, rending, goring, etc.; tear at or mutilate: numerous sheep savaged by dogs.

12. to attack or criticize thoroughly or remorselessly; excoriate: a play savaged by the critics.

Nothing in the context it was used in this thread was offensive.

My pistols stay in the night stand next my bed,but my pump action 30-06 is my home defense gun and sits next to my bed.break into my house you can run but you can't hide

You have a pump action high powered rifle for home defense? I think a shotgun would be a better choice. Are you trying to shoot into your neighbors house 500 feet away? ;)

My 40 is in my bedroom (as are my rifles). But they are all safely put away. I am such a heavy sleeper that I am pretty sure I will be dead long before I notice anything.

My neighbors aren't that close and i reload 165 gr. hollow points to cut down on the extreme over penetration the 06 has,my other gun is a semi auto 12 gauge with slugs and buckshot that i make with 3 50.cal. round balls

Is this a joke I'm not in on? The searched engine says I haven't used the word "savages" in more than a month, to describe the people that raped the reporter in Egypt.
The 2nd post in this thread.
I seriously doubt you're mentally prepared to stab someone. It's savage, messy and traumatic. A bat is a better choice than a knife.

'Sav***' is a bannable offense on ATOT.

i have a colt throwing knife in my nightstand and a beretta 92 between the mattress and boxspring on my side of the bed.

I also have a small LED flashlight, and IR nightvision goggles in my nightstand.

I am not looking for a fight, but that is no reason to not be prepared for one

we have a long hallway that separates the bedrooms from the rest of the house and I plan to just camp there. take the 360 and tv, but come near me or my wife and I'll try and put you down like a dog

Some of you guys must live in really shitty areas.

hey genius, assholes and burglars have cars and can drive to my neighborhood.

my parents neighborhood is much nicer than mine, and way more segraegated from town(single entrance, not gated or anything) and last year some punk ass kids robbed 9 houses in a few nights before they got caught. you have to be hella rich to live somewher exclusive enough to prevent criminals driving to your house.

You did the right thing, even if I had my guns I wouldn't confront the bad guys unless they threatened me or my family directly. Unfortunately I have a full house and if we had a home invasion someone would come face to face with the bad guy(s).

once he starts wildy firing the pistol, I think all bets are probably off. shoot him when he stops to reload before he accidentally shoots me through the window or wall while trying to shoot the dog.

but my opinion might change in the situation

I can see that word being bannable in different context, but not that. hes not calling some that, hes referring to a situation/action and it seems to be very acceptable there

In case anyone starts taking me too seriously, I'm pointing out the absurdity of the last ban handed out for 'sav***'. It was completely acceptable in that context, too (see sticky at top of OT).

There is no need to sleep with any kind of weapon. No need for gun, bat, knife, or anything else.

I know of a woman that would disagree with you, she would have been beaten more and most likely raped if I didn't show up exactly when I did, I would not have gotten to the street in time unless my maglight was exactly where it was, in my night stand.

FYI a gun is 100X more likely to kill your own children than a stranger.

That's pretty amazing considering I don't have children. I'm tired of this stat, I have years of weapon handling experience, having a firearm in MY house makes everyone safer.

Using your logic I could say buying a swisher cigars makes you more likely to smoke weed. It just simply does not work that way. Correlation != Causation.

I own a springfield XD just in case my alarm gets bypassed. I just wonder how am I suppose to defend myself with a knife/bat if there are 3 intruders?

My dad has a really nice gun safe that I'll probably inherit one day, so I'm in no hurry to buy one. I've got a few AR-15's, a 9mm XD Subcompact, and Beretta U22. I don't typically keep them loaded or even keep them within reach.

I've been meaning to take the carry permit class, but just haven't had time since my friend (who I'd take the class from) only does it the second Saturday of the month. I've had scheduling conflicts the last 6 months. Hopefully I'll be able to do the course this summer some time. If your state allows you to carry, I recommend getting a permit just so you can keep a gun in your car or on your person....you never know when you might need it.

So you own weapons, but not a single one of them is within reach when you get that unwanted intrusion in the middle of the night? What, you're going to scamper around the house and hope you get a chance to reach a weapon if it ends up being necessary?

I don't own any weapons (other than a basic knife), but I think the whole point of them would be to keep at least one good home-defense handgun where you sleep.

Nope, the whole point of my owning them is because I enjoy shooting them.

Just to point out something to all you people that feel you need to arm yourselves for protection. The odds of a home invasion are actually about the same as being struck by lightning: 1 in 1,000,000.

The odds of being seriously injured in a car crash: 1 in 6500

You'd be safer if you stopped driving. You could even put up some lightning rods for extra security.

That's why I lock my guns up. I'm perfectly fine accepting those odds if it means my son or one of his friends doesn't accidentally find one of my guns lying around the house.

For the dolts who say, "teach your son not to handle them." I have taught him that but kids are prone to making mistakes and I'd prefer that he not learn things like guns are deadly the hard way.

I have been meaning to pick up one of those small locking gun boxes and bolting it to the wall in my closet but it hasn't been a priority so all my guns are locked up in a gun safe...which is not near the master bedroom.

yeah I dont have kids, but the fingerprint single handgun safe is in my future when we do have one old enough that it can mess with a gun.
