When I first got a gun my wife thought it was kind of strange I put it in the nightstand. Now, when we leave the house she is asking me if I have it on me. When I travel without her she wants it in HER nightstand.

lol at username and the culture of FEAR that you have developed within your household.

congrats.

Disagree. It's a fairly impersonal experience.

Granted I've never stabbed\slashed someone, but as I understand it there's a whole lot of blood and it's fairly horrifying.

as opposed to zero blood when you shoot someone.

:hmm:

You don't think discharging a firearm in your house and putting a hole or two in someone is traumatic? Or messy? Or horrific?

I've never killed anyone. Hopefully, I will never have to.

Honestly, I keep my guns under lock and key because I don't want my son or his friends finding one of them and having something horrific happen to either of them. I'd rather be killed by an intruder than have that happen.

I am surprised you are alive to create this thread.

How have you survived this long without a gun? I mean, it sounds like you live in a warzone, since you need to sleep with a knife next to your bed.

I also keep a knife under my bed. And I don't plan on getting into a "knife fight". However if someone breaks in I'd rather have a knife than nothing. And I have absolutely 0 issues with stabbing or slashing someone who has broken into my house. I honestly wouldn't feel bad about it one bit.

I've discharged a firearm both in and outside of my house, putting holes in people in the process. There's really nothing too traumatic or horrific about it. There's a lot of adrenaline and a moment of "did that really happen?" And there wasn't what I would call a tremendous amount of blood in either case.

I imagine a stabbing\slashing would cause (external) blood loss more similar to lacerations\amputations from shrapnel\blasts, which I have seen, and which involve an enormous amount of blood loss, and are pretty unsettling. :\

I don't have kids, but if I did I'd have a biometric safe in the bedroom for quick access, secure firearm storage.

I own 13 guns and none of them are in the room my wife and I sleep in.

Your wife is right...you're nuts.

I'll take being nuts and able to protect myself over being sane and stuck grabbing my 3 inch penis when someone breaks in.

Yes, bad things to happen in the world believe it or not.

I have a knife, 2 bayonets and a loaded pistol within arms reach of where I sleep.

 Why would I grab your 3 inch penis if someone broke in? Why would your 3 inch penis be in my house in the first place?

when someone breaks in.

You mean IF someone ever breaks in don't you?

Oh, and be sure and let me know IF that ever happens.

Thank you for being a responsible gun owner. I was always taught to lock my guns if not in use, and it makes sense. Guns are a great theft target, as well, they are easily sold in the black market.

I have loaded guns in the house. They get put in the safe when the grandkids come over. Otherwise, they are out. I don't ever plan on shooting someone. But if I ever have to, it will.be a lot easier if it's not locked up.

I don't have a gun, but if I did it would probably some sort of revolver. I'd leave the first chamber empty so I wouldn't accidentally fire it into my head when frantically grabbing it. If there's a semi-auto that I could do that with, though, that would be my first choice.

i own multiple firearms and knives. my regular carry is locked up at night (but still accessible quickly) and i have a hunting knife on my dresser next to my bed. not because i fear someone breaking in and raping me, but because i have a few knives on my dresser for my own amusement. i also have stuff my kids made me, toys other kids have given me, drawings from people and other such trinkets on there.

its only paranoid if you wake up and patrol your house naked in the dark.

Are you mentally disabled?

I think that recognizing the possibility of accidentally discharging a gun while attempting to get it without light and in a panicked, frantic state proves that the mentally disabled person is the one asking if someone considering the aforementioned is mentally disabled.

If you want home protection, aren't you better off owning a gun than a knife?

1. Assuming a burglar is trying to break in at night with everyone in the house, chances are that individual would not be right up in your face when you wake up. If that is the case, having a knife within immediate reach doesnt seem particularly useful if you can just go grab it from the closet or safe.
2. When you confront the burglar, chances are you wouldnt be up to his face right? There'd be some distance between you and the burglar, in which case a gun would be a lot more useful since the burglar would either a) run or b) come attack you. In both instances it seems like a shotgun would be a lot more efficient than a knife
3. But really, this entire premise is stupid to begin with since if you were going to rob someone's house you'd wait until everyone was gone rather than risk confrontation and limit your ability to carry off high value items like jewelry
4. If someone was coming into the house to kill you, I'd assume they'd have a gun and would just shoot you where you slept rather than getting up close and personal. And it would be logical to shoot you first since youre the adult male of the household. So unless your wife and children are also armed, it wouldn't make much of a difference.
5. Why dont you just invest in a home security system where they can notify the police if theres an attempted break in?
