I used to leave my door unlocked, then one day I got home and my laptop was gone. So now I lock my door, every so often I find my door mat shoved aside like someone was looking for a key. I still don't keep a gun in the house, though I've thought about it.

Disagree. It's a fairly impersonal experience.

Granted I've never stabbed\slashed someone, but as I understand it there's a whole lot of blood and it's fairly horrifying.

nah, it doesnt look too bad in the movies. i have a 5" kabar, it looks menacing. i'll stab if i have to defend myself. i can also scream in a high pitched voice like a girl, if that helps. i think i will get a bat soon with nails and barbed wires attached.
