I decided on two consoles.

So who all thinks a 42" Sharp Aquos will compliment the systems I choose ?

I just got a 42" Aquos. I've got the Xbox360 and Wii. Honestly, the Wii looks good but not great (very jaggy). The 360 though looks amazing.

Sure, if you want to infect your machine with the DRM that comes with it. I'd take Bioshock on the 360 over the PC any day. So out of the 5 games I listed for the 360, I'd say only 1 (CoD4) could go either way. But like I said, if you had a PS3 and 360, I'd just get it on the 360.

Oh and don't forget, XBox Live!. That in itself it worth going for the 360. I freakin' love it!

Most new games on the PS3 and 360 are almost identical, aside from differences like the dongle you mentioned. I'm not saying some games aren't better on 360, but that was more of an early issue with the PS3 (not so much anymore). Honestly, though, that shouldn't be a big issue (it isn't for me). And Live never impressed me...I've had it for a few months, and I don't feel it's worth paying for (so I'm going to not renew my subscription until something exciting comes out).

Not really. It isn't without issues, though. My USB ports stopped working on me (though they would work in Linux...wtf?), and my 2nd system died while playing CoD4 (a known issue that happened to a very small number of people...I believe it was recently ironed out). There are other reports of systems that won't read discs anymore. However, I'm just an unlucky guy, and a VERY small percentage of people have problems with the PS3. Compared to the 360, it really is built like a tank (like someone said earlier).

Thanks for the responses. Keep'em coming :)

Now...If the Playstation 3 end's up being one of my choice's. Which version would be better to go with ?

Way I read it was, the 40 gig version plays PS1 games but NOT PS2 games. And the 80 gig version plays PS2 games and NOT PS1 games. Now...I know ill have no intention of playing any PS1 games, but there is a possibility of PS2 games being played. IE: the entire Silent Hill series.

If I were to choose a 80 gig.....Is Motorstorm good ? Ive watched alot of trailors and what not on Gamestop...looks ok.

Other than what I mentioned, are there any *other* reasons to go with the 80 gig over the 40 gig ?

EDIT" Are there any chance at all of a future Castlevania game coming for the PS3 ?

Here are my thoughts, for what it's worth...

I have a Wii and PS3. I like the Wii, with the first-party games like Super Paper Mario and Twilight Princess, Virtual Console games (never had a NES/SNES/Genesis, just a Sega Dreamcast), and its unique controls. I have the 60GB PS3, which allows me to play older, non-PS3 games. Plus I needed a DVD player, and having Blu-Ray makes it even better (to me).

As for the Xbox 360, (it may not be true, but it's just my impression) many of the games I would like to play can also be played on the PC, which I also have, albeit a four-year-old PC that won't be able to play Crysis or Bioshock. Plus, I was initially spooked by the quality issues that the Xbox 360 had. I'm sure all the issues have been cleared up by now, but since I already have 2 consoles + my PC with its games, I won't be getting another console for a while.

All versions can play PS1. Only the 40gb can NOT play PS2.

I didn't care for it... try playing the demo in the stores.

That bundle has been out for a long time now. If you're willing to wait, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a different bundle by March.

Various card formats readers, SACD support

Considering there was a recent release on the PSP, I'd say their relationship with Sony is still in good standing.

Well, you actually have two choices: the current 80GB version or you can get a 60GB version either used or perhaps new on eBay.

I haven't played Motorstorm except at store displays (seemed OK, but not something I personally would get), and from a brief search, there were reports of a Castlevania game for PS3, but the articles I read were from Sept. 2005.

By the way, I just read a post here a few minutes ago, although no clue where it's at now. But it stated that the 80gig PS3 uses more power than the 40gig which relates to more heat ? Or something along those lines. Any truth to this ?

I can really see ( well hoping ) for a Castlevania release.

Can anyone give me their impression on Ninja Gaiden Sigma ? And Heavenly Sword ?

You've already mentioned the backwards compatibility which is the primary reason for paying the extra $100 for the 80Gb. However, the additional inputs like the card readers and extra USB ports may be very useful. I have a 40Gb, but I'm starting to think I should have gone with the 80Gb cause the 2 USB ports are easily occupied by one controller-charge cable and one USB keyboard adapter; it'll be more convenient to have the extra ports. Also, the memory card adapters may be pretty useful if you like showcasing pictures on your TV. You don't really need these nor did my monitor, but I made use of them just cause they were there. The PS3 internet browser really helps to turn the machine into more than just a game console.

Just a note: once Sony decides to allow wider use of the Bluetooth, the extra inputs won't matter as much (nowhere to be found right now). That is, you could get a bluetooth keyboard and do a wireless transfer.

Edit: To half-ass answer the power consumption between the 80Gb and 40Gb. THe 40Gb uses something like ~135W while the 80Gb uses ~200W cause the 40Gb is the newer, more efficient SKU. Think they optimized or changed a chipset, ripped a piece out or something.

Well, regardless of which two system's I choose. In my OP I chose the 3 games for purchase with said system's.

Like I said though, If a choice end's up being a PS3, I'm now starting to wonder if I should just get a 40 gig version and a Slim PS2 later on. This way I could get the *cooler* ( I think ) running machine. All the extra inputs really don't mean much to me. And I highly doubt I surf the net on these system's. Have a PC for that. Only probably use online for gaming and downloads from the store.

So what does my choice of games for said system's look like ? Opinions ? Suggestions ? Comments ?

:)

If you wait on the PS2, hopefully the Slimmer model will be released in America.

If you had an option for PS3 and Xbox360 i'd vote for that.

But with these 2 options, i'd go with Wii + Xbox360.

There's a new model in Japan that has a built-in AC adapter.

He did, but got rid of it because they're pretty much the same right now as far as games he's interested in.

For pure gaming (ignoring blu-ray and reliability) my two choices would be 360 and PS2.

I'm not a Mario or party game fan, so the huge PS2 library of JRPGs, adventure, puzzle / misc like Katamari, action games appeals to me more than the wii library. Plus it's $120 cheaper and most older PS2 games are $15-$20.

wii and 360 owner. recently returned the xbox360 and got a ps3. Most of the good games on the 360 are fps games. no keyboard and mouse support ruined it for me. Gear of war, cod4 and bioshock ( 3 of the best 360 fps games ) are on the pc. To me, the 360 is too limited.
1. no mouse/kb support
2. no G25 wheel support (the best racing wheel)
3. no dedicated server on live (you will never see 60players online like resistance2 going to be)
on top of that you have to pay for it.
4. no buildin internet browswer, wifi or high def drive.

Diverging bit from the topic, but the PS3 supports those USB things that increase the number of ports, so you can use one of those.

Also, the controller charges with ANY usb port, so technically, you can connect it to your computer and let it charge.

Just a heads up.

Hmm....Receiving some good information in this thread. As of right now, I think I am a little more on the PS3 side of the fence.

Thanks Guys :) Greatly appreciated.

So if I were to choose a PS3....Is Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Resistance Fall Of Man good choices ?

And can anyone give me their opinions on the three games I mentioned ?

I asked my wife to pick one of the consoles. And well...she picked the Wii. So now I have to choose between the other two. It's great having a wife that games :)

Are you choosing the PS3 because of it's multimedia capabilities or its games?

From Gamerankings,

Xbox 360:
90+: 11 games
80-90: 63 games
70-80: 74 games
Total games over 70%: 148

PS3
90+: 2 games
80-90: 24 games
70-80: 23 games
Total games over 70%: 49

Xbox 360 wins hands down in the games category. And most of the multiplatform games are better on the 360 and/or came out earlier on the 360 (so they're cheaper). Personally, I have about 40 games for my 360, 15 for my Wii, and 2 for my PS3 (Warhawk and Uncharted). For online multiplayer Xbox 360 is the best.

If you do buy the PS3, don't buy Heavenly Sword. It's a rental.

Well, the thought of possibly replacing the 360 after a while is a concern to me. It could work forever, you never know. But still a concern. The PS3 comes with a bigger hard drive out of the box. I could also play most PS2 games. As I never had a use for any original Xbox games. And I will agree, a lot of the games for the Xbox, I could buy for my PC once its upgraded.

I would love to play Metal Gear Solid 4 as well as future Final Fantasy games. The Free online is a positive for me as well.

However, I should probably add, within 3 months of buying these two system's, which ever one I don't get right now. I will get within that time frame.

Right now, the only game that interests me for the 360 are in the poll in the OP. And future games would be Alan Wake.

For the PS3...Resistance 2, Grand Turismo and Final Fantasy.

MUGS...can you point me to that link at Gamerankings ? I'm on their site, but cannot find the charts for what you posted.

You can't link directly to search results, but go here:
http://www.gamerankings.com/it...ratings.asp?rankings=y

Then select the system (platform) and select 200 results. That'll show you all of the games worth playing on either system, and a bunch that aren't worth playing. You can search by genre too if you like certain genres.

Woops. Completely forgot USB hubs existed.

Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden and Resistance demos are all available to download on PSN. I've tried them all and can say that they are pretty good with HS coming out top (great graphics nice gameplay), but it's suppose to be pretty short (5 hours). I wouldn't pay full price ($60) for any of them since they are good but have deficiencies; Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank are worth it.

Are you familiar with the controllers for each system? PS3's is basically the same as DualShock 2. 360's is very similar to the Xbox-S controller (NOT the original Xbox controller). To me, the controller is a huge factor. I really don't like the PS3 controller, and there I can be a lot more effective in online FPSes with the 360 controller. But that's me. If you strongly prefer one or the other, be sure to factor that in.
