I decided on two consoles.

See, that is kind of my plan. Go with the PS3 now...and in 3 months or so get the 360. Or whenever Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out.

I remember playing Ninja Gaiden about 7 hours a day as a kid on the NES. Great times. Actually, I think I still have all three parts of that here somewhere. So eventually, Ill have ALL Ninja Gaiden games.

And I am eagerly awaiting Gran Turismo.

If you're getting a PS3, just be aware that the 80gb sounds like a hair-dryer, much like the original version of the PS2. The 40gb is MUCH quieter. It's also handy to have the option to watch blu-ray movies on it, though I'm not happy about losing the PS2 compatibility, USB ports, and SACD playback. However, the noise generated by the console was enough to make me drop to the 40gb. Anynway, the PS3 store has free demos you can download for Heavenly Sword, Fall of Man, and many others, so you can easily try before you buy. As to what games are worth buying, I usually like this guy's reviews: http://www.escapistmagazine.co...orials/zeropunctuation

I'm still a little confused about why anyone (read: 99.99% of the populace of PS3 owners) cares about SACD playback. I was under the impression that people that were SACD-interested-parties weren't waiting for the PS3 to jump on the SACD bandwagon.

Well I've got all the Wii games you've listed, I haven't spent a lot of time with all of them yet but I've played a little bit of them all.

Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are probably the best games to get. Super Paper Mario was entertaining but easy. I've never been big into resident evil games but from the little bit I played RE4 was pretty good. RE: UC is a decent light gun game but don't expect to much from it. Some other games you might want to check out are:

Warioware: Smooth Moves
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
The Godfather: Blackhand edition
Rayman Raving Rabbid (I have the first one haven't tried the second one)
Battalion Wars 2
Mario Strikers Charged
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2

As for the PS3 I don't own one but I hear Uncharted (my choice) and Ratchet and Clank are good, also Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a good game, I have it, but since you are limited to selecting one game out of the list, Uncharted is superior (so is CoD4). Wait until you can get a good deal for it if you can. I got toward the end but since I have stopped playing due to CPA exam.

I loved NG on NES. It was difficult but I loved the challenge. Sigma is the same way; it's difficult but it's great fun. No doubt you will enjoy it. It's a rare and dying breed amongst generation of easy games.

It is a very small subset, but regardless there are still people who would like to consolidate all of their media players into one machine.

Actually, I am going to be purchasing 4 games. The voting in this thread only leaves one vote per voter. So far it looks like the four games that are winning are the ones people on boards have been recommending.

Conveniently ignoring the last line, you are seriously committed to going totally against the poll results that this thread delivers. :p

A good Playstation series to get into is the Ratchet and Clank series. Good humor, colourful characters, and many, many weapons. :D

Also, another option not listed on your poll is Warhawk.

Well, not going against everything. Just the PS3 over the 360. I am still sticking the Wii, and the games recommended for it. But the PS3, I will have all the games that is recommended for it by this evening.

The PS3 was recommended also. And I chose it even though it had less votes because of 360 heat issues. And I also believe the 360 was winning in the pole because a lot more people own them for being cheaper and released a lot longer. But don't really matter, because withing 3 months, I shall be buying the 360 Pro as well along with Halo 3 and Ninja Gaiden 2 and a few others.

All is good, and I am very excited

I have a Wii, and a PS3 as you do. I voted Mario Galaxies, and Uncharted. While COD4 will give you more playing time, I detest playing FPS' on consoles. Uncharted is a fantastic game however. Just nearly as much replay as COD4 due to multiplayer. I really like COD4, but play it on the PC.

I was considering the HDMI cable set that is manufactured by Sony at Gamestop for $79.99. Is it good to have the name brand as opposed to the off brands ? Any last longer than the other ? Better quality ? etc:

Nah, it really isn't worth the difference.

BUT!!!

If you ever have to call Sony support, do NOT tell them that you use 3rd party cables. That will automatically void your warranty.

That is good info to know  thanks

That will factor in to which cable set I purchase then.

And do you mean....Void the Playstation 3 warranty ? Or a warranty for ?

Void the PS3 warranty. There was an article early last year from an enraged guy who couldn't get his system repaired because he told the CSR that he was using 3rd party cables.

Wow... that's shady.

And false. I had no problems with getting them to accept mine when it stopped outputting video. They didn't care even after I told them I wasn't using an official Sony HDMI cable.

I own the PS3 and the Wii, but I think I'm going to trade my Wii for a 360 or just sell it. It's been collecting dust for a year, besides the first week of Wii Sports and two stints with Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy.

Well, after a lot of hours using the PS3, I can say for sure...it is a lot more than I expected.

I bought the 40gig version, and after 4 hours of constant gaming, There is absolutely NO heat what so ever any where around the console. Of course it's also in a well ventilated area.

Decided to use a Phillips brand HDMI cable from Walmart for $40. I knew there would be *some* difference from standard 420 to 1080 but DAMN I didn't think there would be that much. TOTALLY AWESOME.

Purchased these games thus far.......

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Call Of Duty 4
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Heavenly Sword
Raw Vs. Smackdown 2008

The best game so far, to me...would be Uncharted without a doubt. That game is just too sweet in every aspect.

Call Of Duty 4, is a little hard to get used to at first, with the aiming and what not. I'm used to keyboard and mouse. ( USB keyboard and mouse will work with PS3 right ) ?

Heavenly Sword....Sweet game. Little hard to aim at the beginning of the game where the girl is in the tree shooting at guys approaching. ( I'm stuck on this part. LOL )

The other games are just self explanatory. Registered online also. And I really don't see what the big deal is about the interface. I think it is great. And imo...I think it is better than the 360's. And yes, I have played a 360 quite a bit in the past.

Bought the Pelican charger stand also. That thing works really well.

of your list, SMG appeals to me the most. However, for the whole family, you should get "Wii Play," if not just for the included controller, it is a very fun pick up and play package. Ghost Squad and Batallion Wars 2 are also really fun. For the ps3, get Ninja Gaiden Sigma and CoD4.

Ouch for Phillips HDMI cable. You should order one at Monoprice for $8 shipped and return your cable. $32 more for games.

Don't forget to check some games at PSN. Super Stardust HD is a fun little game. I haven't picked up Everyday Shooter but I have heard it's great too.

No offense, but... "duh". Did you realize that you were buying a high definition video game device before you bought it?

I agree with Dacalo, return it and buy one from monoprice.

That is pretty funny. You can get a 6' HDMI cable from monoprice for $5 + shipping. So still less than $10.

I just dont understand... if he had no clue what the PS3 was about, the fact that its first and foremost a HIGH DEF MOVIE PLAYER, why in the world would he buy one or not even do some research? maybe head over to his local best buy to see one in action? hell, it sounds like he never gazed on a HD signal before either.

Blind faith in a product.
