Ok, I have made my choice. The two system's ill be buying is the Wii and the Playstation 3.

Reasons are....

1) I have a wife and 3 kids.
2) A lot of titles I want to play on the Playstation 3
3) I am not prepared to deal with the Xbox 360 should problem's come up.
4) Most titles that interest *me* I can also purchase for my PC.

So those are the reasons. Just figuring out what games to purchase now. So I changed the poll's.

If you were going to purchase ONE game for said systems please vote for that game. And please explain why if you don't mind

At this point in time, I just could not choose the Xbox 360. Could those problem's come up for me ? Who knows. But I am not taking a chance on that right now.

Thanks guys for all your input. It helped me a lot. :)

I used to have all three, but I recently sold the wii just due to lack of games that interested me. Now I just have the 360 and the PS3, so I voted that way.

I have had the PS3 for a couple of months now and I have still never played a game on it though.

I have a 360 Elite and Playstation 3 60GB. I'm not interested at all in the Wii. If I had the slightest interest in it, I would have already gotten it. For the PS3, Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Fall of Man and Warhawk. Ratchet and Clank has gotten great reviews too. But that's about all the good games for the PS3. 360, well, there's an ASS load of good games. The list is long, but I'll mention just a few, Gears of War, CoD4 (A MUST HAVE), Bioshock (freakin' awesome game), Guitar Hero III (highly addictive), and Rockband.

Wii's are very hard to find still. Id like to get one for Mario Galaxy though. However, I can walk in my local Walmart any time of the day and pick up a 360 or a PS3.

By the way. The ones I saw there said HDMI on the box. So how can I guarantee its a Falcon version ?

360 Falcons have a 175W power supply. Check around the UPC code, it says 175W.

I voted for it too ... played all those 'must have' games like Mass Effect, Halo 3 and Gears of War - not impressed.

Look at the available games FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drop down to gamespot.com or some other review site and have a look through their games (the "Top Games" section for each platform should help) and see what interests you. If you don't see anything that you want to play, don't get that console.

I would recommend the 360 though, starting to get some nice games now.
Mass Effect - Assassins Creed - Oblivion - Overlord - Crackdown - Halo 3 - COD 4.

It's the only console i own, so i can't really offer advice on the other 2. If you see enough games for the 360 or PS3 to keep you busy for a while, the wii might be worth getting for a refreshing change of playing/game style.

Thanks JackBurton. If a Xbox is one of my final choices, I will be sure to look at the UPC. Of course the Walmart clerk may not like me asking to look at all the boxes. lol.

Keep the replies coming guys. :)

I have played Gears Of War before. Game was good I thought. Not sure if it would be a quick purchase this go around though.

And I have played Twilight Princess on the Wii. Real good game.

Tired of playing other people's systems....time to buy my own.

Will you play anything else besides MG on the wii? Do you have several friends over frequently to party game with? You need a wii!

Do you have a HDTV and care about blu-ray movies from Netflix now that HD-DVD is pinin' for the fjords? You need a PS3!

Do you love shooters more than life itself? You need a 360!

See the "360 or PS3" threads for why the 360 is better than the PS3 if you only care about games and not blu-ray.

It's mentioned in many threads, but anyway:
The 40GB PS3 has PS1 backwards compatibiliy but 0% PS2. The 80 GB has ~80% BC with the PS2. Both use standard $10 HDMI and optical digital cables from monoprice.com or similar.

Well, there would be more than just Galaxy. Games such as Twilight Princess, Paper Mario, Resident Evil and the new Brunswick Bowling game.

Really don't give a crap about Blu-Ray. But when I purchase two consoles, I am also buying a LCD TV as well the same day.

I would recommend pairing a Wii with either the 360 or PS3. The two latter systems share similar games, while the Wii stands far apart. However, the Wii, in my opinion, is not a good singular console, and I always have to recommend a pairing with one of the other two consoles, both of which are becoming pretty heavily loaded with decent games. And, based on pure popularity, I would guess that you would enjoy the 360 more, although I like my PS3 better.

I have all 3, and use the 360 least of all, but I know I'm somewhat of an oddity since I'm not much into FPS multiplayer. The last game I spent any time with on my 360 was Earth Defense Force. In my defense, I didn't buy the 360, it was a gift from a cousin. Even tho I've probably spent less than a total of 50 hours on the 360 since I got it 2 years ago, I've had to RMA the damned thing twice for RRoD.

Since I'm a father of 2, I spent a lot of time playing the Wii. Just got Zack and Wiki and have been playing a lot of that with my son, as well as Super Mario Galaxy. Wii is mostly a 1st party game console, Mario/Zelda/Metroid stuff, but those games never disappoint, and for me, it was totally worth it. I can't wait to play the new Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart online.

I bought my PS3, and I like it a lot. I have 3 games for it, Enchanted Arms since it was only $20, Uncharted as a gift, and Assassin's Creed. I've also bought Super Puzzle fighter II HD and Everyday Shooter on the PSN store, both awesome games. I think from an adult standpoint, the PS3 is my favorite since it does so much more than just play games, I can download podcasts, design my own themes, or download new themes completely free. While Microsoft revels in nickel and diming people to death for their themes and wallpapers, Sony just gives them away for free, and the online is free. Sure it's only $50 on XBL for a year, but it's $50 more than I have to pay to play on PSN. A lot of people think the XBL infrastructure is far superior to PSN, but for me, MS has complicated the design to such an extent that I wince everytime I contemplate going in to look for a demo I want to download. I ltend to gravitate towards the fluid feeling the PS3's XMB, although the PSN store could use some major updates.

I think in the end, it's up to you to decide which consoles are better for you. If you tend to have a lot of friends over an you have kids or a significant other, the Wii should definitely be a consideration for the social aspect. On the other hand, if you mostly just game alone or against people online, I would say the 360 or PS3 would be the better choice.

Hope you get what you're looking for.

I'm a Wii, 360 man myself. The Wii is great with other people and despite all the negativity has some good single player stuff too. The 360 fills my need for the more traditional games.

You do know that 3 of the 5 games you listed for 360 can be found on the PS3 as well...right? Plus, he could probably just play Bioshock on his PC.

I think the best games are on the PS3 and 360. It's as simple as that.

CoD4, yes, it is cross platform, but I buy all cross platform games for the 360. Why? Because they are usually better on the 360. GHIII & RockBand, I can play BOTH games wirelessly without a dongle using ONE guitar (GHII guitar), not so on the PS3. WAY better implementation on the 360. Bioshock on the PC? Sure, if you want to infect your machine with the DRM that comes with it. I'd take Bioshock on the 360 over the PC any day. So out of the 5 games I listed for the 360, I'd say only 1 (CoD4) could go either way. But like I said, if you had a PS3 and 360, I'd just get it on the 360.

Oh and don't forget, XBox Live!. That in itself it worth going for the 360. I freakin' love it!

Bioshock on PC > 360 by far. Most shooters are better on the PC.

Not all games are better on the 360 than the PS3. Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 actually installs to the HDD so that you don't get any load times and uses the motion censor for camera movement (have to see how that works). It's a little less generic than the 360 anyway.

It really depends on the developer implementation and whether they want to be lazy or not. They can do specific things on each console that differs from the other.

Also don't forget Uncharted, easily the PS3's greatest and most rewarding game (albeit a bit on the short side overall).

For the question at hand I say 360 and PS3 because with the 360 you can get all the shooters you want (I personally am getting sick of this aspect of the console) as well as any unique titles from the library. The PS3 compliments the 360 as it's also an HD gaming platform but offers a unique set of games that the 360 does not have such as Ratchet&Clank, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and much more to come. As a bonus you get a Blu-Ray player in your PS3 which alone is just about worth the purchase. It is one of, if not the best BD Player on the market. I wouldn't class the Wii in here because it is not HD, and the ability that the 360 and PS3 have for a media center goes way beyond the Wii and it's gimmicky control scheme that has tons of bugs in my experience.

Don't need a Wii for friends...my friends would just laugh at me.

I personally have a 360 right now and I'm looking at picking up a ps3 in the next month or so. To be very honest, both of these systems have more traditional game support. The wii is a great party system, and it's fun for a bit, but to be honest I got sick of it just by playing it at other peoples' homes. It has a few great games... and plenty of games that aren't even worth renting. However, as I said, it's a great social/novelty system. I'm a huge Zelda fan, but I would have to vote for 360 + PS3. Also remember that this year should be HUGE for the PS3... there are a lot of good titles coming out!

The Resistance 2 thread should help swing you towards a PS3 as one of your choices.

Hell, I won't even touch F/TPS's with a twenty foot pole, and I'm still hyped about R2. :)

I'd say PS3 and 360. Wii got old for me fast (and I only play freinds) and is only fun w/ other people (exception being Zelda).

buy an xbox360 and a wii. and wait a little longer for the ps3 to do another price drop (they have cut costs significantly... so maybe they'll punch MS in the face w/ a price drop)... then buy that. play all three and sit back and enjoy!

but i will say, wii is not for you if you just play a lot of single player games. altho, I think metroid prime 3 and mario galaxy are almost worth it along, one out of pure concept of FPS on a console, the other.. just out of pure ingenious-ness.

Wow, people are seriously campaigning in here.

I'll just say that your list of games is so riddled with cross-platform titles that it makes numbering them in their current state completely pointless, and that's even assuming that you don't game on the PC.

Xbox 360
________

Gears Of War
Mass Effect
Halo 3
BioShock
Forza
PGR

Playstation 3
_____________

Resistance : Fall Of Man
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Metal Gear Solid 4
Lair
Final Fantasy XIII
Grand Turismo 5
Heavenly Sword

Both:
_____________

Conan (WTF?)
Rainbow 6 Vegas
Call Of Duty 4
Devil May Cry 4
Grand Theft Auto IV
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway

I mainly wanted to type this up just to point out that at the moment, it's utterly redundant to get both the Xbox 360 and PS3. I'm a 360 & Wii man myself, but even I can see that you do not have the best two PS3 games on your list (Uncharted and R&C). If you're going to include future games and are interested in Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden 2 is coming out only for the Xbox 360 in 2008. And FWIW, I think there are plenty more Xbox 360 exclusives that you missed on your list, but I don't get paid to do MS's marketing for them. :p

Actually, Drakes Fortune was suppose to be on the list. As well as Alan Wake. Must have forgot to put those on there.

Are there any *current* issues with the Playstation 3 ? Kind of like the RRoD with the 360 or anything to that nature ?

Nothing based in hardware. You won't find anyone that doesn't think the PS3 hardware is built like a tank when compared to the early OMGMYLIVINGROOMISFIRE version of the 360.

Quite a few of the cross-platform games of the last year were originally coded for the 360 and then ported to the PS3 so they naturally run a bit better on 360 hardware (Rainbow 6: Vegas, The Orange Box, EA Sports games, amongst others). But at least some developers have come out and said that issue will change for the better.
