Yes, but he's actually correct. In a poll done last year Americans were found to be the most religious of any 'western' nation (including people living in and around Vatican City). We also have the highest percentage of fundamentalist christians (again, as per polls which are obviously prone to some error).

America is a pretty scary place to anyone with a brain.

Contrary to the overwhelming opinion of ATOT, religious != extremist. This video is similar to the Baptist garbage they show Sunday mornings on BET, trying to make money off of the uneducated. It's just a small minority who are gullable enough to pay to hear this guy speak.

I'm sure many of you who criticise those people have also been taken advantage of at some point in your life. Not everyone is fortunate enough to learn otherwise.

Also, I'm pretty sure I'd rather live in America than anywhere else - and I think I have a brain.

Ok, I'm truly amazed that people are getting bent over my statement. People in America fill the media with incredulous reports of fundamentalists of other religions and their extreme views, then balk when actual studies point out the extremism present within our own borders.

Irony

Hypocrisy

Sure this guy doesn't represent everyone, or even the majority...but neither is it 40 guys out of a garage. America has the highest concentration of fundamentalists of any developed nation. *shrug* I'm not picking on anyone, just pointing that out. We're generally more religious than people who live around the Vatican...the Vatican for the love of Pete!!!

People are HONESTLY pushing legislation for ID to be called a science! At least one of our states has outlawed sex toys, while continuing to dominate the nation in poverty, lack of education, and discrimination! The second largest program of our Federal Bureau of Investigations right now is a war on legal pornography! We request our children pledge themselves daily to a combination of nation and God! We spend more than most other countries in the world combined on our military, but have large percentages of homeless, starving, and people without even basic medical care! Our crime rates our out of control, our jails overflowing!

I'm not saying we don't do good as well, nor do I wish to leave. However, I still say:

America is a pretty scary place to anyone with a brain.

Truth be told i am more scared of these than of the taliban. The taliban are violent and brutal, and turns most rational people against them. These have a covert way of stupidity brainwashing kids.
How far will they go? I know you have anti-abortionists in your country, and people that want to teach ID in science classes. But the things this guy on google says are just stupid/scary/wonderous.

Yep, great stuff there. You're supposed to be the one to be speaking out for equality and fair treatment of others. But I guess christians don't qualify for that treatment, do they?

Also, you're offending a lot of christians here by lumping all of them into one group that has the same beliefs. Show me some evidence that shows that all christians believe one thing and I'll join your crusade against these christians.

For the most part it isn't being threatened (though there is DEFINITE rising levels of fear for our children). I'm embarassed that my country is so heavily populated by people who can disregard all reason, science, and knowledge. Being religious is one thing...being a literalist/fundamentalist rates you as having an intellect roughly on par with the turnip in my veggie crisper.

Thankfully science and knowledge is not the be-all end-all of human existance... there are several other things more important to 90% of the plain folks...

Theres too much christian bashing going on here for it to be worth my while to give a full and credible responce.

Sure. All science and reason are wrong, only the bible is truth (absolute, literal, and irrefutable), Adam had a pet dinosaur, please put $1000 in the box so we can fund a complete and total takeover of America and perform lobotomies on anyone who might think for themselves.

Its a 2 hour video, I only watched the first 10 minutes...

Crazy dude talks about Dinosaurs and its relation to the bible. Claims Adam and Eve saw and named the dinos. Then claimed that there was a layer of water ABOVE the planet at one point. Thats pretty much where I stopped watching.

I honestly have to respect his opinion. It's not at all that I feel the same; rather, I think he made a valid exegesis of a theological doctrine that he accepts as literal fact.

He made some clear reasoning errors, but then so do most people... including scientists. It seems the only difference is that scientists choose a foundation of empiricism from which to reason (most of the time), and he chooses a doctrine.

I also thought it was quite funny. I liked the following:

- His picture of the primordial soup as a Campbell's can with the word "Grandpa?"
- His picture of the ark with holes in it after saying, "I hope they put woodpeckers in a steel cage of some kind"

He's trying to say that God wrote on a rock with His finger and that it ended up in Exodus, word for word. This guy has serious problems.

But some people actually believe this crap.

so f'in what?

His "problem" is that he takes the Bible literally. I'm at the part where he started talking about fire-breathing dragons, and if the Bible talks about serpents with fire coming out of their mouths then the myths must be true!

Personally, I think if you're going to be Christian then you have to take the Bible literally. Once any doctrine is opened to interpretation you completely ambiguate the meaning from its creator and assign responsibility to man; I believe language in itself is incapable of describing the divine, and I know man is incapable of understanding what his creator "really meant to say."

FWIW, I'm not Christian (nor atheist), but I have (and sometimes do) read the Bible.

America has always been a melting pot. Europe has never been a melting pot. This was actually cited as partial reasons for the terrorist attacks there (ie The terrorists were never really accepted into society). We have all sorts of crazy beliefs here from all extremes. Hell, half you Europeans think that the TV show "Friends" is an accurate depiction of American Life  A good analogy to this would be that America also has a Nazi party. That party encompases about 1/10000000 of the American population

I have to admit it gets interesting at the 15 minute mark. A lot of different culturs have flood stories, and I didn't know that.

I actually found that to be the most suspect. One would have to isolate the origins of these flood stories to determine their ultimate veracity. A few millenia of proselytizing can introduce stories into cultures that, over the course of centuries or more, take on many different forms.

Diversity does not make a melting pot. I can put an Israeli, a Plestinian, a Chinese Guy, an African Guy, a Hispanic Guy, and a Hawaiian guy in the same room and call it "Melting Pot" and say its their home from now on. However, if they still identify with their home country/culture more, it is not a melting pot and they will merely tolerate each other at best. Europe lets societies live in their nations. America accepts them into its culture (in most cases).

Well, I can say that I have always heard of London as a melting pot. I believe Rome would be considered a melting pot as well, yes? I do acknowledge that there is a difference between diverse composition and a "melting pot" though.

This was one of the first links I found with a little Googling.
