I should have huh! Maybe just a cold air intake when they come out with one. The difference is pretty visible, silverstars are whiter witha little bit of blue and brighter.

Get a car with 400+ horsepower and a widely known reputation for owning the streets and the opposite will happen. People in the lane next to you will stop a car or two back from the line if you're first up. Not everybody, just the kind of people who want to race you right now and know that they don't want any.

What kind of stuff is trying to race you anyhow?

Ah, trim level pissing contests are common.

Same car, same year, same condition, and if they have less letters on the trunk than you they will pace you to show that their car is just as good as yours, in a display of their jealousy and inferiority complex, and an attempt to downplay your superior model.

If they have more letters than you on their trunk, they will race past you can get in front of you. I've had people in the same year 95 Camry get all smug with me and drive aggressively like that. First they drive up close to your tail to see what letters your car has, and if they confirm theirs is better, they will blow past you and cut you off so you can see their trunk and know theirs is better. 9 times out of 10 it ends up being the same car with the same engine but they want you to know that their XLE is better than your LE. They must be balling, paying a whole $300 more for their car than you did.

But yeah any sporty looking Civic, factory production or not, is a target on both ends. The ricers will try to show you their normal stock 70 HP Civic with a cold air intake and wing is faster than your Si, which they actually covet. On the other end, you'll be targeted as a ricer and picked on by people with much more powerful cars.

No matter how fast or slow your car is you will get posers or people with much faster cars picking on you if you have any kind of "performance" oriented machine. Some people just can't help themselves.

On New Years Eve I had some asshole in a Cobra follow me around town from stoplight to stoplight trying to get me to race, when I finally rolled down my windows to ask him what his deal was, he called me a pussy for not wanting to run with him. Kid looked to be in his late teens/early twenties, daddy funded FTW.

Couple issues here:

1. A stock Cobra(his wasn't) is 1 second faster in the 1/4 than my very best time with my mildly modded WRX.

2. My GF was in the car and I don't race anyone period when I have a passenger. If I want to risk my life that's my choice but I won't risk other people's lives.

3. It's New Years Eve.

My best advice to you is to just ignore them, if you really must lay the smack down then do so, but next time some fool in a Civic EX shifts it into N and revs his 4" fart can muffler at you just laugh, that's what I do.

Yea me too. It really is a nice car. I like the looks of it, it has an LSD, the shifters on these cars are butter smooth, and it handles pretty good. Only thing it's missing is turbo. If it had that, it would be a perfect car.

Yeah I guess after 4 alternators and engine rebuild and a couple of other defect problems you can keep an American car going.

2004 Ford Expedition. 60k miles. ZERO problems.

1995 Ford Bronco. 150k miles. ZERO problems.

1989 Lincoln Towncar Signature Series. 650k miles! ONE starter, ONE water pump, ONE alternator.

All 2 are STILL going without ANY engine problems. You're talking out of your ass. It's exactly why American car companies are in the shitter. Because ignorant people like this have so much fanboy love that they can't see that American companies are just fine.

As I've said before, car buyers are becoming such a moronic breed that they've surpassed having there head stuck up there ass and have pressed onward back through there own mouths and into their ass again, beginning a perpertual spiral of stagnation in a pool of shit and drool.

Enjoy the car.

Civics are a lot nicer than they used to be. The Civic SI now fills the void left by the RSX.
Sort of similar to how the Maxima used to compete with the Camry and Accord. I feel like the Maxima competes with the Avalon now, and the Altima is now up against the Camry and Accord.

I like the Si, but I am just torn between it and the Speed3. Price is comparable, but performance the Speed3 beats the Si senseless because of the turbo. I am more confident in the Si engine though, as Mazda I do not think is quite as good as the Si's (not saying its bad, just the Si I think has a little more then the Mazda in quality build and such). The Si is hot though. Especially when the ivtec kicks in :)

Nice car though :)

edit: So its funny that talking to the dealerships for leasing the Si, they are trying to convince me after 3 years its residual value will be $12k.... I laughed....

Understandable, I didn't like the 5 doors until recently. They have a lot more functionality and usability then a 2/4 door, and I kind of like the hatchback. I will agree for looks 2 doors are more sporty, but its so much more of a PITA to haul stuff.

I was wondering how does the fabric hold up to dirt and such. It seems like it would show dirt/crumbs/etc very easy.

Depends on the year for the Towny. If it's a '98+ with the Touring package (meaning 3:27 gears, 230HP, 280 torque, performance shocks and springs) my vote goes for the RWD TC in both a straight line and the in the turns over the FWD Civic.

This couldn't be more false.

For a long time, I had a Buick Lesabre with the 3800 V6. Absolutely zero mods, had plenty of power. It was FWD and ~3400lbs.

For a short time, while having my ignition switch / security replaced on my Lesabre, I borrowed a relatives mint 1997 Lincoln Town car. I didn't think it was possible for a car to feel more like a boat than my old Lesabre (that had 110k more miles than the TC, btw), but damn if I didn't find it.

Don't get me wrong, the TC was a great smooth ride. VERY comfortable, and quieter than the Lesabre. But even on moderate turns, the car has a lot of roll and when you push it, the tires just want to cry under the weight (~4000+lbs).

After my Lesabre was repaired, I had my mechanic buddy run it against me in the TC from a dead stop. The launch time was perfect in both cars (automatic takes the guess work out), and within a pretty short time, the Lesabre had me by a car length.

Now, taking experience into play here, I also owned a 3rd gen and 5th gen Prelude. I know for a fact that my old 5g Lude would spit out a Lesabre like it was nothing, and it was only ~200hp. Also get on anything that isn't a straight line, and the Lesabre bobs and slides like an old bus, and the TC was WORSE than that.

So, bottom line = Civic Si >>>>> Stock Towncar. Straight line, or technical course.

I'm not shitting on big cars, I loved my Lesabre for what it was. But you have to be realistic. Now if you mentioned say a ~95 Impala SS or something of that sort, then you might have a ballgame. It has enough power to overcome the weight, and IIRC, the suspension was pretty tight for a large vehicle. I've rode in one, never driven.

Just to hammer this point home so that I don't have to hear any pointless rebuttals :

http://www.theautochannel.com/...ews/1997/solo9704.html

Curb Weight 4065 Pounds
Horsepower 210 @ 4250 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 270 @ 3250 RPM
0-60 MPH 9.2 seconds
1/4 Mile (E.T.) 17.2 seconds @ 83.5 mph

http://www.motortrend.com/road...da_civic_si/specs.html

Curb weight 2886lbs
Horsepower 197 @ 7800RPM
Torque 139 @ 6100RPM
0-60MPH 6.7 Seconds
1/4Mile 15.2 sec @ 93.5 mph

So the Civic is no rocket ship, but it makes the Town Car look like a turtle. Granted, a very comfortable turtle with lots of trunk space :)

EDIT : Added the 'Touring' 1998 Town Car here (upgraded Cartier Edition, top of the line) :

http://www.theautochannel.com/...ews/1998/russ9808.html

Curb Weight 4000 lbs.
Horsepower 220 @ 4500
Torque (lb-ft) 275 @ 3500
0 to 60 mph 8.2 sec
1/4 mile (E.T.) 16.3 sec

The fabric doesnt show THAT much dirt, just keep it vacuumed every few weeks and everything looks brand new.

lol that's a perfect way of putting it. I loved my sofa on wheels, but at the same time, I not so secretly envied the little fun cars zipping around me. I went from the Lesabre to an E39 M5, then after that got totalled, went to an '08 Focus S 5 speed. 35mpg is nice :)

Hey I love it when people compare 2 completely dissimilar cars.

The sofa on wheel and Lincoln Town Car thing I got from this TV commercial from a while back. I can't find it on youtube or google right now, but it had this old guy saying something like "People think that just because I'm old, I don't have fun anymore, I don't do sports, and I drive a sofa on wheels. But that's not true! I square dance, play golf, and I drive a Lincoln Town Car!" And I swear the whole commercial was deadpan straight, like it didn't even see its own comedy.

The Civic SI driver better be a damn good driver and be willing to slip there clutch at about 4000rpm to get a good launch. Bogging off the line and waiting for the VTEC to kick will net you a loss. The Town-Car Cartier driver just has to hit the gas.

And for good measure, the latest Town-Cars get 239HP and 287TQ.

It's still ridiculous to argue that a LTC is even a 'decent' match for a Civic Si. It's not rocket science to drive a car with a manual transmission and a high-rpm powerband. Granted, it's easier to drive a car with low-end torque (I had an E39 M5), but only a total incompetent moron would lose in a Civic vs. LTC race.

And on a technical course, it'd be like watching John Candy's corpse chasing a Chihuahua on meth.
