Problem with the SI is you have to drop the clutch at a minimum of 5K to get a decent start. If you don't drop your clutch, that Lincoln will eat you for lunch.
Don't ever shift too early either because once you drop below the VTEC opening it's over. Nothing like revving your car to 7000 rpm to get adequate power.
The SI's handling it pretty poor stock as well, people claim it handles well but its spring rates and strut vavling is rather por and the car has lots of body roll.
And how is your opinion of the Si's handling formed? In a magazine comparo with other similarly priced sporty cars (VW GTI, Mini, etc), I seemed to recall them favoring the Civic's handling. Supposedly one of the best handling FWD cars for the money.
Car & Driver does this test called the Lightning lap at VIR and well the SI was slower than:
Civic Si 3:26.5
GTI 3:25.1
Cooper S 3:22.9
Mazdaspeed 3 3:16.X
Cobalt SS 3:20.6
A quote from the link below:
The Cobalt was also the most settled of the three, with excellent body control through the high-speed esses. The GTI felt soft, but its body motions remained fairly stable. The Civic was the floppiest.
