Don't ever shift too early either because once you drop below the VTEC opening it's over. Nothing like revving your car to 7000 rpm to get adequate power.

The SI's handling it pretty poor stock as well, people claim it handles well but its spring rates and strut vavling is rather por and the car has lots of body roll.
Yeah, well, when your torque curve looks like your HP curve an 8000rpm rev limiter makes sense. ;)

And how is your opinion of the Si's handling formed? In a magazine comparo with other similarly priced sporty cars (VW GTI, Mini, etc), I seemed to recall them favoring the Civic's handling. Supposedly one of the best handling FWD cars for the money.

Ive been really trying to baby it, but damn the first gear you gotta shift at like 17mph :-\

Is there a reason you are shifting so late in 1st?
Late? (A) That is early for that motor's power curve - it has zero down low torque. (B) The gears are so short, to make up for the lack of torque, that 17mph is about 3200rpm in 1st gear. With an 8000rpm redline, 1st tops out at 38mph.

I have tested those cars also, and yes the Civic tracks a whole lot better than all those cars. Its really rock solid in the corners, and the seats hold you in tightly.

Congrats on a good, solid, reliable car that should be reasonably fun to drive. Take care of it and it should treat you well.

Lets just say its... an RSX type-S in honda disguise. Kinda what it is. prices of cars is going up, I'm glad they didnt MSRP rape me at like... 24k sticker price.

It's a honda every penny was worth it. It will outlast many American Cars 1000 times over. And will keep it's resale value till even after 10 years or more of use. In good condition you still can get buyers who would put down enough for you to make a down payment on another car....

While Honda's have proven to be very reliable, when incorrectly maintained, they are no more reliable than any other car that is incorrectly maintained.

Yeah but when properly maintained they outlast any american car.

For normal driving I don't see why one needs to go past 10mph in first... My current car and my old car have much less torque than his at any RPM and it didn't bog the motor and provided plenty of grunt to keep up with traffic...

Lets just stop the domestic vs import debate will we? Ive had both and they will last as long as you take care of them.

I think I did a little voting post in the garage a little while ago. Most members agree on buy an import v.s. a domestic.

Yeah I guess after 4 alternators and engine rebuild and a couple of other defect problems you can keep an American car going.

Actually it's better than the RSX, since the Civic comes with a limited slip differential.

No offense but I would never buy a newer Honda. Because they messed up with the Element, and now all their cars look like shit and or toys.

If I were to buy an import it would have to be Toyota. But I would buy a B'mer over anything.

Also why did you buy a BRAND new car? Why not get an 07 with 10-20k and save $5-10 grand. I know lots of people who decided they wanted a new car, they had it for 5 months and that high car payment killed them, and the car was repoed.

My rant for the week....

Sorry, but no. A properly-maintained American car will last well over 200,000 miles without any trouble at all. We've had more problems in 160,000 miles from our Honda Pilot than we had in over 500,000 miles spread over 3 Ford Explorers. And the Explorers drove better.

The new 20k is the old 15k, it's called inflation people.

A Civic no longer costs 15k like it used to, it is now 20k. An Accord no longer cost 20k like it used to, its now 25k.

I'm with zv on that. as long as you take care of the car, the car will take care of you. good deal for a new car. just watch out for service bulletins for your car and make sure you get it done asap. they're usually free as well since its required to be done.
