I Am Officially Sick Of Winter

The electricity went out about an hour ago. Holly hell it's freezing. I live on an island in NJ, so we get the wind blowing from the back bay. No lights, electricity. 🙁

I can see the outside lights flickering. Its the electricians working on my pole. I bet they are getting paid a lot of money tonite.

I had my power go out in winter once too, the first few hours were not so bad but then I started to get worried it would be a big one, like all night. Was down to like 10c in the house. Funny thing is I had all my server stuff running on UPS. Was starting to think I should shutdown the servers to conserve battery power and wire it to the furnace. Power came back up after like 4 hours though. If I recall my UPS cut off literally like 15 minutes before power came back, was a kick in the face. 😛 I had started to shut down servers then it kicked off with the last remaining server still on. Downside of that UPS is it does not really give any kind of warning that it's about to go into low voltage shut off, it just does it. I think the cut off is 11.0 volts.

I really do need to look into a generator though, I'm really not well prepared if power goes out for a very long time.

I just dislike how cold it is when I get out of the shower. Thats my only complaint. I like the winter air and no bugs.

I love fall, and strongly like winter. Summer can fuck itself with a katana AFAIC. I'd like to experience winter in the far north; maybe Lapland. Perpetual night and snow would be glorious.

Yeah, winter kicked in strong after New Year. Yesterday's high in Toronto was -16C. Historical normals are -2C, so it's cold even for Canadian standards.
At least Toronto didn't see much snow, and since I park in an underground garage both at home and at work, it hasn't bothered me much...
we have been seeing -14C to -17C for 5 days as our average temp. With the windchill its like -30C. We are just not used to that kind of cold.

I too am sick of winter (I live in Minneapolis/St Paul area). My commute is supposed to be 20-22 minutes. Last night it took me TWO HOURS.

My company has a job opening in Jackson, MS that I'm qualified for. I have no desire to move to MS, but I'll be damned if I'm not applying anyway just for the opportunity to not have six months of this crap every year.

Bring on Summer damn it! Rather be hot and cool off on my fucking own! There's nothing quite like a cool breeze on you from a fan parked in front of your bed. Damn I can't wait for summer again! Plus the pool is awesome!

yeah this weather blows. had the first real slice of winter on tuesday with our first snow, then been cold as balls since. after going to san diego in november and our friends keep teasing us/pressuring us to move out there with them, man it's hard to find reasons not to want to move out there.

California government is the only thing keeping me out of California. Everything else is great.

Shoveled last night when it stopped snowing. Woke up this morning and it looked like I hadn't shoveled a single flake. =(

The weather itself isn't bothering me yet - just the usual drivers. It still boggles my mind that there are people in Michigan who don't know how to drive in the snow or don't take appropriate safety measures (good tires).

And I am not saying everyone should be racing to work but those people merging onto the express way going 20 mph when everyone else is going 65 piss me off (esp if i am behind them trying to merge as well as I really dont want to get ass packed by a semi)

I left Minneapolis at 18. Only went back during the summer.

Could never handle that kind of weather again, I've lived in too many warm places.

It's cold as balls here. Considering I already kind of hate this city, the weather is doing nothing to make things any better.

only thing keeping me out is that we bought a house 2 years ago and have a little one on the way, and all of our family is around here. and our friends who live out there don't have any family out there, and they do say it's tough, and they can never go on vacations because no one can watch their kids, and if they do go on vacations, it's to see family.

I've got that scent in my nose.

Only some of you know what it is.

Sweat mixed with snow.

And right now those people are cringing!

:awe:

It's cold as nuts here! Tomorrow is going to be 13 degrees, with a wind chill that is going to make it seem like it's -20.

On top of that it sucks here! The only friend I have spends his time on Facebook posting about James Bond and horror movies. 🙁

I know... the air's so dry my excessive hand washing is making my skin crack. How am I supposed to je...

It finally warmed up a bit, so I was able to turn up the humidifier a bit so that my windows don't freeze. Well they're still freezing a bit but not as much. First year I had that humidifier I cranked it to like 40% humidity, anded up with mold in a lot of my windows. :awe: So I got to watch.

I find it helps either way though. Since I installed that humidifier I don't get cracking hands anymore. Around the same time my work installed an office humidifier too.

Toronto.

Was back in Vancouver for Christmas and damn, it so much nicer there. 🙁

KT

Probably is... but you'll learn to appreciate Toron'a in that all the big winter storms usually seem to miss the city. A 3' snow storm is only 1'.
