I'd like to see the Prius come down in price. One of the reasons I'm sure some people don't get the car is because of the price. They think, "Ok. I save a few dollars on gas every year, but I have to spend thousands more upfront? Eh."

I'm pretty sure I'll never buy one just because of that initial price never seemingly making it worth it.

My car might not get 60mpg, but it was $4k and gets around 28/35 mpg if I don't hammer it everywhere.

Considering total cost of ownership, the Prius beats or comes close to most cars in the segment below it. Honda Fit, Kia Soul, etc. are within about $1,000 over 5 years.

Used is almost always the smartest purely economic bet, as depreciation hits massively before the average vehicle really even has any real issues at all, and common issues (water pump, timing belt, alternator, starter, whatever) are usually pretty cheap in the big picture anyway.

But most people want something nicer/newer if they can afford it, especially in the age of conspicuous consumption.

So I got to sit in a Prius C, and it seems like enough leg room. I put a deposit down, but may not get the one I want (color, model, options) for like a month or two.
