im confused at what this does exactly after you flash it

what is the new "stock" speeds after u flash a regular gt?

will it work on any gt? like pny, evga, bfg, leadtek, etc?

does ur core/mem have to have a minimum oc level before you attempt this?

gt = 350x1000
ultra = 400x1100

yes, any AGP 6800GT or Ultra.

no minimum OC required.

Anyone try this with a BFG 6800GT? Just curious... lol, I haven't even installed it yet and I am all-ready thinking of changing the BIOS...

Expertool is a much better and more convienant GUI then coolbits.
its also less of a PITA too ;)

Gainward makes a nice lil setup for their users ~ its no wonder Gainward owners always rave about their cards.

most users will get a better OC from their cards, especially GT owners.

It says GT core OCing is limited to 420.... What if our cores go to over that already? There is no way to OC highier than that with this mod?

yep thats the only problem with this mod for GT users (or Ultra owners using the GT bios), ExperTool can only go 420mhz core :(

in that case you should NOT use Expertool and use coolbits insted.

a normal GT bios uses 1.3v for the core in both 2d and 3d modes.
but the Gainward GT bios uses 1.3v for 2d and then boosts to 1.4v for 3d.

HTH :)

Okay thanks I am thinking of trying this just to see how much higher my card can go. I already runs very cooler with the NV silencer 5 so we shall see.

going from 1.3v to 1.4v should get you about 20mhz more from the core.

this GW GS GT bios is one of only two GT bios files that actually use 1.4v for 3d as is. (no modding)
(the other is a very messed up nVidia reference file)

:)

So you say it is reversable if I screw something up? I saw something about flashing back to original bios...

Also, should I do this right off that bat (flash and oc) or give my card some time at stock speeds as a 'burn in'?

And if idont alt tab and just play when i exit the game the system reboots there to. The system seams stable other then that. I am using 61.77 right now and 5.10 unified drivers off nvidias site. I have a friend who has a bfg 6800gt oc and is having similar problems. also what should i use to oc ive used riva tuner with these 61.77 drivers and ive used expert tool. can someone just recommend some drivers for my gainward gs also the voltage i should have it running at, just fill a noob in! lol thanks guys

yes, if using the floppy version you can save your original bios to restore it later if needbe.

no, you should be familiar with your card before doing this.

youll never know unless you try ;)

i havent tested any gigabyte bios files, but some of the files i have tested are really bad and for no apparant reason. probably stems from minor deviations from reference, but whatever the reason issome bios files are better then others.

Question: (not trying to rain on the parade) wouldnt increasing the voltage on cards not designed for it possibly cause heat problems and dramatically shorten the life of the GPU? (as they dont have thermal protection of any kind AFAIK)

Some of those GTs have horrible coolers even at stock speeds, pushing 85C at load.

Way to bash before you read idiot. He is talking about the expert tool.

Ok, i press y after i get the sub system missmatch, i still have the same old bios...so its not flashing it....the command for flashing it is nvflash --index=0 gwgsgt.rom ...correct?
