i have no idea why your system cant boot dr-dos.
bad disk?

an XP bootdisk would only work if you knew exactly what files from the flashdisk you needed, and nothing more.

I had the same boot problem , if someone needs all the files to boot it on xp, let me know i will email them to you.

Rook, i had mentioned this to you earlyer. There seems to be a problem with the files you have. But it may be only a select # of people who get the problem.

yep i know, i just dont understand why.
its IBM DR-DOS, the same thing they use for HD diagnostic bootdisks ~ given to us by eVGA nontheless.

very strange.

Bah I just tried this and used the CD rom ISO because the floppy boot disk wasn't working. Now I can't OC as high it just hard locks after a few minutes of playing even though my temps are just getting to ~65C on load. Now i REAllY wish I just got a working boot disk so I could back up my old BIOS :( I guess I can probably find it on the net though.
The weird thing is now with this bew BIOS I actually get a Video BIOS screen when I boot up with my PNY I didn't.

few I found a PNY 6800 GT bios and flashed back to that and can OC again and be stable... I was worried there for a few minutes hehe. Apperently my card either doesn't like that extra voltage or something in the GS BIOS.

not all cards can handle the 1.4v ~ the voltage regulators cant handle it.

glad all is well again tho :)

i can make a special 1.3v version for you if you want?
LMK :)

Thanks for the offer but I am happy where the card is at now. I just thought it would be cool if the 1.4 vgpu could help even more and it either can't or it just doesn't like the BIOS so I'll be sticking with what I've got thanks again though.

ok np :)

LOL @ me!
well ya learn something new everyday....
unlike w98, a wxp bootdisk cannot simply be unzipped to a floppy disk ~ it wont be bootable.
you need to literally format the floppy to be a bootable disk :Q

oh well ~ i guess thats why they use DR-DOS for bios flashing ;)

all fixed up.

for floppys ~ youll need to format a floppy and make it bootable 1st, then unzip the flashdisk program to the disk. that will ensure it is bootable on your system.

the ISO also uses MSDOS now too.

LMK if anyone is still having any problems getting the disk(s) to boot.
:)

Weird.
the new bios is great.

But anytime I take my core above 400 or the ram above 1100 my 3d mark score drops.

Does expert tool do some type of throttling?

I was never able to run my ram faster than 1100, but with expert tool I can set it to 1200 with no issues..

but if either the ram or the gpu are clocked higher than 400 or 1100 I either see no difference or it actually goes down.

this isnt just the GS bios, also with the evga modified bios.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Dave

Flashed my PNY 6800 GT! Idles at 54C. Thugs, I know you say the gt bios is quicker, but can I get better clock speed(Higher), leading to better performance with the Ultra bios? Just a thought.

Spike,
Yep, just tried it on my BFG 6800GT OC.
(i have the one with the copper heatsink/2fans/blue LEDs)

Card currently running at 415 / 1.12 with no issues.
Will probably go higher, but this is the highest ive had this card with no immediate artifacts so i'm gonna run and bench more at these settings for awhile b4 getting greedy. ;)

Gettting "pauses" with my BFG 6800 GT Oc when overclocked along with my new setup. (NEO2)
A64 / MSI K8N NEO2 / BFG 6800GT Oc

Seems this problem is more common than i thought with the NEO2.

After trying all the NUMEROUS solutions available as "possible fixes", its seems the only thing that works for me is setting my 2D and 3D clocks the same.
(yep, tried fastwrite disable, agp 67 in bios, different aperature sizes, setting agp 4x-8x in bios etc..)

Well, i obviously cant set my 2D clocks to the same speeds as my 3D clocks since 2D is using less voltage.

THUGSROOK,
Can ya offer any suggestions?
Can i just edit the bios linked to above?
I dont wanna lose my 3D overclock as i was up to 426/1105 and going.

Anyone see any problems editing the bios to set the voltages to 1.4 for both 2D and 3D?
Other than the obvious heat issues, i'll have to leave my fan always on and watch the temps.

Suggestions on which program to edit the bios? OmniExtremeEditFX?

that bug seems to appear on many 6800/AMD systems.

i think the only resolution is to make 2d and 3d the same speeds and voltages.
use NiBiTor for that.

:)

hey THUGSROOK
I need your help, I have no floppy and I have spent days trying to create a cd to flash my PNY 6800 GT 256.
I wanted higher voltage to try to OC more. I was getting stable results at 416/1120 or a little higher.
I burned about 13 disks and had little success. cant read swap file, cant open .rom etc.
Your CD works great after much searching. great job. I tryed the ultra bios first and I started getting problems locking and crazy screen a couple of mins or less into a game, so I tried the GT one and the same problem when I'm at my previously stable overclock rates... safe mode works fine but it's slower than stock bios OC and now I would like to get back to stock or try a voltage mod on the stock bios. Can you please explain to me how to add the bios file to your cd so that they are accessable? I used winiso to put the files in the same cd but I can't access them. When I boot from it. I really appreciate the time you have devoted to this. I hope you can answer my question.
btw, temps never get very high and one other thing I am running a shuttle rig which is small form factor and has a low wattage power supply, I don't think this is the problem but it might be good to get some expert advice on that issue. I got the GT because I dont have room/power/money to warrant an ultra.
peace

Oh I saw you offer a lower voltage version a little earlier, are there other advantages to the gainward bios? expert tool is nice so I might want to stay with a gainward bios. The latest PNY bios I have is a rev 3... I still would like to know how to add any of these to the cd image. there is no way to change voltage in windows is there?

i dont think you can add bios files to the ISO image.
a better PSU is always a good thing.
there is no way to change vid voltage thru windows ~ only from the vid card bios.

how about a lower voltage one then? I assume now that you are offering that for the floppy version only? I have figured out how to edit bios's at this point I guess I will just have to install a floppy drive. I was hoping that I would be able to open the .bin file on your cd and add those bios. I'm not savvy enough to do so, and to figure out what calls on what to display the menu including the choices,,,, live and learn, or die trying?
thanks again.

if you are using a floppy drive ~ you could simply replace my bios files with yours (using the same file name).

:)
