$5/day here too... and to top it off, they don't provide parking for jurors (plus the courthouse is in the middle of the city, so the only available parking it in paid lots).

$5 does just barely cover the round-trip subway costs, though.

Do you know if lunch is included?

not even the coffee in the waiting room is included.

I don't recall any refrigerators either to make bringing your own lunch easier, but at least there were a bunch of options for eating out.

Wow, they make it seem like they're doing you a favor. And the $5 is a slap in the face. I can't wait to be dismissed.

I think it's more like $5 here.

Yeah, that is insulting. The judge and lawyers get paid reasonable salaries, and so should jurors.

At any rate, I just hope my note on the questionnaire made it clear that I stand to lose a lot of money and possibly my job if I have to serve.

This is why our court system sucks. All the "intelligent" people get out of jury duty while the dregs of society are what's on our jury. It's sick!

Lose your job? I want to see one employer ballsy enough to fire someone on jury duty.

You didn't read my post earlier about what I do, did you? I'm more or less an independent consultant and while it is very unlikely I would lose a job because of it, if I got stuck on a trial that lasted weeks, I very well could.

This last questionnaire was for the county court, so it likely wouldn't be a big trial. But seriously, do I want to give up a few days of salary to see if Billy Bob is guilty of stealing Farmer Joe's cow? No.

Unlike you OP I would love to serve on a jury. But the fact that I am an attorney almost guarantees that I will be removed by one side or the other during voir dire.

I was summoned twice. Both time just sat in the waiting room for a few days, didn't even make it to selection.

Wow, this really sucks. I'm waiting around until 1700 like a day laborer looking for work. This really sucks. Looking forward to lunch with wife. Tomorrow, I will bring my laptop to do work.

And all these nasty people coughing and wheezing and blowing their goddamn nose like there is no tomorrow. This is straight nasty and disgusting. I feel like I am in detention. I hate this shit.

You should probably revolt then. Plus, it'll get you sent home I'm sure.

To thank her for filling out your form?

BJ?

You couldn't get out of it? What a dumbass!

I decided to embrace itsince i had to do it. It would be a new experience. But this is beyond boring. They said a judge will take all 99 of us so i may see some excitement. Also, maby people here are disgusting human beings but there a some chicks here i wouldn't mind taking into the men's room...

So last month my wife tells me I got a letter from the supreme court. At first I was happy, thinking I was invited for tea or something from the SCOTUS. Then I found out it was from the New York supreme court. I got worried, thinking my past was coming to haunt me. Then I opened it and it was a form for jury duty. I promptly tore it up and put it in the trash. Then my wife saw it and went online and filled out the form. Now I have to report for jury duty. You'd think, with all the taxes I donate to government, they'd leave me alone with this bs. I have things to do. So, now that I cannot say I never got it, what are my options? I have to report in a month.

Just be yourself. When I get interviewed for jury duty I never get chosen. 🙂 Simple.
