If I want to save the bullet how do I save the bullet. I have a fmj bullet and I don't want to damage the jacket as it is an important part of my project.Put the casing (gently) in a vice...use pliers to remove the bullet.
It's highly unlikely that the round will go off in the vice...but I don't know if you're trying to save the casing or the bullet....there are different ways to accomplish this, depending on your desired outcome.
Yeah, I'm reading that this is really the only safe way to do it. Pliers are not recommended.
I don't have a bullet puller so I'm just going to forget about this. It just doesn't seem safe.
Cut the red wire. Or the black wire. One of them disarms the bullet, the other makes it go off. So just wait until the very last seconds, close your eyes and cut one at random. That always works.

Just buy a damn bullet puller... they're cheap and you know you're doing it right.
bullet puller and blast shield.
Only takes 1 mistake to seriously injure yourself. The cost of of the preventative measures are cheap in comparison to the harm that it could cause you.
Just out of curiosity, why do you need to do this?
Gotta love it when a complete novice asks for advice on how to something mildly dangerous that requires a certain amount of skill and knowledge, especially when it's being done for no apparent rational purpose and a non-dangerous alternative is readily available. It's as if Darwin Award winners only had ATOT as a resource to ask questions to, we'd never hear stories like this again:
"Hey ATOT how do I ensure a wire is grounded before I do work on my house"?

try hitting the little dot on the back end of the bullet.
Nothing at all because to get to the back of the bullet you've already had to remove it from its casing. What happens - is it a surprise?
You have to hold the casing tightly in yourfistteeth when you tap it.
When my dad was young he and his brothers would shoot pellets at the primers of shotgun shells until they went off
I can't believe they all have all their limbs
