How much time are you allowed for your lunch break?

Please can people include what your job is and where you are in the world.

I'm self-employed, so "allowed" doesn't really come into it.

(In hindsight I would have set up a poll. Oh well)

I work in IT in Denmark, I just take as long as I feel like. I don't actually think there is a set amount, legally there is a minimum (30 minutes per 4 hours or something like that) but nowhere in my contract are breaks mentioned.

Executive Director, Personal lunch is what time I can afford to lose for the day. Biz lunch may be all afternoon depending on the nature of the negotiation.

self employed

but I hated working for places that had mandatory long lunch breaks. I'd usually try to eat during a normal break and skip lunch if it was hourly work

Work in IT in canada, I get 30 minutes for lunch and 2 15 minute breaks.

but when nobody is here I can take however long I want really

30 minutes, although I miss hour lunches.

I had a job a few years ago where my boss lived next door to the jobsite and his family was Italian...we'd take 2-hour lunches and have amazing culinary feasts at his house with his family. Those were the days :awe:

I am supposed to find time during my 12 hour day to eat. There is no set amount of time but if I spend more than 10 minutes eating and not working things start backing up.

I don't think I've gone more than 10 minutes at a time in the last 2 years while working without some kind of interaction needed to keep things moving....... ugh

5 minutes - 1hr +

it consultant. no rules on lunch, but if i have a lot of work to do i may skip it or get a sandwich or burger and ride to the next customer.

if im at a contract customer all day i generally get time to take a lunch, might be 30 - 60 minutes + depending on where i go, if the customer goes with me, etc.

sometimes i skip lunch and go home early (salary)

Yeah, I hear that. I've taken working lunches for about 3 years now (on-site IT guy). Yee-haw!

Yeah, we don't really have a fixed time for lunch. I think that people would get annoyed with me if I took more than an hour, though.

That said, I have the kind of job that requires me to be on call 24/7 with no overtime pay, though. No reason to be jealous of me!

45 minutes is the scheduled break. Sometimes its less, sometimes it's whatever I want, but usuall it's an hour. I work for the gov't.

As much or as little time as I want. Typically just gone long enough to either get the food I bought or the buy it where I work.
I work at what would qualify as an IT company without getting to specific.😛

As much time as I want. I'm expected to do 40 hours of work per week, no one cares when I do it.
