hours 0700 - 1700 and get 30 mins.
This is in the UK working in aircraft maintenence

Are you only working 2 or 3 days a week, or do you get many hours of break and social time each day during work.

I think most Europeans go to work, work for 1 hour, get 1 hour break, work for 1 more hour, go home for a 3 hour lunch, work for 1 more hour, get another hour break, and finally work for 1 more hour before going home.

I work in IT as well and we get 1 hour for lunch. I pack my lunch and eat at my desk so I can leave at around 4pm because I get in around 730-8am. Most times I get stuck working later so it sucks I guess 80% of the time.

I will usually go out for lunch with friends on Fridays.

You know, your opinion becomes more interesting every time you state it.

Ph.D. student: I work as much as I want and take a break whenever I want, with the exception of 9 hours a week when I actually 'have' to be somewhere.

Day:
Wake up at 6:30, walk out the door at 7:15... walk to office start work at 8:00; drink coffee, read email, chat with office mate. Do real work at 8:30, stopping to neff every hour or so for a few min. Eat lunch at around 11:30, talk about research over lunch, get back to work around 12:30: do more work until about 7:00 when I walk home.

Sometimes around 1 I'm sleepy, so I take a nap in my office 'reading' chair.

It's a good day; only interrupted by going go conferences 4 weeks a year, and family vacation 2 weeks a year.

Technically its 30 mins but most people take an hour. If I go to the gym I take close to 2 hours.

You know, this thread is for what "you" are allowed for a lunch/break, not your made-up ideas about what others work.

Supposed to be an hour.
I am supposed to work from 0730-1630. But I go in at 0600, usually eat at my desk while working (or browsing AT) and leave at 1430. An hour is too long unless I have to go somewhere to get lunch.

Network analyst for telco, 8 hour day consists of two paid 15 minute breaks and an unpaid 30 minute break which is usually when I eat. I'm usually on some kind of project instead of taking calls though. So there is a lot of flexibility for breaks and start/finish times so long as everything gets done.

I take 6-7 hour lunch breaks with little 15 minute breaks spread out. It makes for a really busy day.

Bout 45 minutes to an hour for an 8 hour work day. Plenty of time to grab a lunch from the cafeteria, eat in the lounge, and play a quick round or two of Hill Climb or Plague and maybe a smoke if the mood strikes.

Taking time for lunch is for pussies. What, are you a union slug?

I'm in a union. I don't have a set lunch. I take it when I can and if I'm busy, I don't get one.

Twelve hour shifts, three days one week and four days the next. I can't leave to get lunch as I am on the clock.

What's a lunch break?

I usually work through mine and eat a protein bar, unless I'm out of the office already and just grab something on the go.

I just have a quick bite at my desk while working, no real lunch I guess. Not sure what we are allowed to have, but we're too busy to take a 'real' lunch.

30-60 mins but if we take a longer lunch we have to make it up @ the end or start of shift since the lunch break is unpaid

1 hour Lunch. IT Network Admin. We are supposed to take 1-hour but things can be flexible depending on need. However by rules we have to clock out for at least a 30 min lunch in a 8-hour shift. Which makes things interesting when we are working a outage. Excuse me while we take a 30 min break. Those are the types of conversations that give my boss a nervous tick.
