Shiner Bock? That's horse shit in liquid form.
I disagree, I like it.

They have Old Rasputin on tap here in town at the Holy Grail. It's epic <3 It's not even all that expensive considering the incredible quality and ABV.
Bock

I always enjoyed Stone's Imperial Russian Stout more than Old Rasputin (which is still damn good, mind you). I have trouble with any imperial russian stout at a bar though because they always keep them and serve them WAY too cold. It's not a Coors Light, dammit, you can't serve it at 32 degrees or you lose all the flavor. It takes about 40 minutes to bring the beer up to a reasonable serving temperature when they keep it like that, and that's absurd.I was really disappointed when I went to my favorite pub last night to find out they are out of my favorite brew 'Old Rasputin'. I tried Stone's Russia Imperial, but it was just nowhere close to the same.
First my favorite IPA stops selling in my state, now my favorite pub stops selling my favorite beer.

If you ever come through Texas, I'll buy you a couple local beers. The first one in the pic is a Shiner Bock, brewed in Texas true to original German form. Thankfully they haven't yet sold out to busch or any of the other huge conglomerates. It's a solid beer, a billion times better than the Coors, Bud, Miller trash that has dominated the states for so long.
The Celebrator doppelbock is a whole different league, but it's not a casual drink like the Shiner can be. Shiner does have some special ones though, a recent fave was their '100' starkbier.
The worst part for me is that Old Rasputin in the bottle is nowhere near the same experience as from the tap. You just can't get anywhere close to the texture and flavor.
Indeed. I've got some friends from Finland and Germany that stayed for a week in '06, they quite liked it as well (they had some very choice words for Budweiser though, lol).
Interesting, I rarely drink that tar anyway. Sometimes if it's real cold and I feel like something super bitter...
Yeah but I never get that stuff so I don't really know what the range is.
Lately I've been on a Kriek Ale kick. Couple local breweries that do a really good one.

I was just in Dallas and I tried some sort of locally brewed ale that was pretty good. Can;t for the life of me remember the name of it; I really should take pictures of everything because my memory is terrible.

I've never been to Ireland, but Guinness here does not really taste like much of anything. It's a slightly thick, mild beer.
...
to be fair there are a number of guinness variants. The FES is quite decent. Sometimes you can be in the mood for a regular old guinness draught, but yeah.
I prefer Belhaven, Boddingtons, and Fuller's London Porter to Guinness most of the time.
I've noticed that Guinness quality differs vastly from location to location here. A couple of pubs get it right, one is called 'The Londoner', the other is the Holy Grail. On another note, the Foreign Extra Stout was finally showed up over here, and at 7.5% ABV it's a decent way to drink 4 beers with a steak and potatoes.
The only way I drink Guinness around here (in the states) is when I order what we call a blacksmith (basically what I think they call a black and tan in spots of England/Ireland). It's a pint of Smithwicks with the last 1 inch or so filled with Guinness.
