If I spread equipment costs of photography over the life expectancy of the stuff I guess that hobby runs ~$300/year.

Hiking and rock collecting is mostly gas money and vehicle costs so probably around $1500/year.

That depends... do I count the cost of the motorcycle in the year I buy it or amortize it?

Ehh, I spend maybe $1000 on cigar/pipe related expenses.

Then there's subscriptions for Netflix and Hulu Plus, as well as bluray buying habits, as far as my movie "hobby" goes (as well as money spent building and maintaining home theater setup & dedicated screening room and stocking popcorn machine.)
$1000 or more annually.

PC/Gaming ... $1000+ games and/or hardware ... I used to upgrade every year, but now I upgrade less, however, I used to never spend more than about $200 on a video card, but now I spend a bit more since I Like to use 3x crossfire.

Beer ... If drinking is a hobby count me in. I spend probably $1000+ a year on craft ales or brewery trips and tours.

Travel ... if Traveling is a hobby, then I spend maybe 3-5K annually (note: expenses are for 2 people since I travel with fiancee)

Then another 2-3K for my fiancee's hobbies (she lost her job when factory went out of business last year, and lately has been doing lots of house cleaning and laundry and cooking and she is spoiling me. She likes doing "bead weaving" and also spinning and knitting (did you know that spinning wheels are more expensive than many computers!)

Not enough is my first reaction. Not counting vacations, maybe $2-$4k/yr depending on the year.

On average, I spend about $24,000 per year on Lego and $50,000 on cars.

Last year I spent $120,000 on firearms and accessories.

I have so many unused laptops that I reduced my annual computer spending from $30,000 to $10,000 though.

Snowmobiling is the biggest one, at around 3-5k per year, depending on how much I go and what kind of parts I break.

sweet. do you have a 50 cal?

i don't really keep a tally myself as it's more like bursts of spending rather than continuous. if i were to guess probably no more than a few grand.

My hobbies are mostly sports. Basketball, softball, tennis, football are pretty much free. I spend about $1000-$1500 on golf annually and a couple of hundred tops on skiing. That's about it for a whole lot of hours of entertainment.

Are you sure? What do you do with them?
Yes, I'm sure. I have all the receipts (tax purposes). Over 1000 bales of hay, 50 pounds of grain every night, medical expenses (all their vaccinations, etc.), fencing improvements, building improvements, etc. We had a couple of goats get sick (grrrr... we bought from disease free herds; someone lied). So, last year, while we sorted out who had it and who didn't, we refused to sell any goats; we turned away quite a few potential buyers. At an average selling price of $125 for neutered males, $300+ for breeding quality males, and $300-400 for females, we only have to sell about 2 dozen to break even. With 40 females, each having twins... We expected a profit, but the unexpected happened, and we took a loss.

Scotch - probably about $1000/year tops.

Cycling - I just refreshed my stable of bikes last year (road and MTB), so it's not a good sample. But it's one of those things that, once you're in it, costs are virtually nil. Hi start-up costs, though (the bike, shoes, pedals, proper clothing, tools), but you could do a lot worse with other hobbies. I used to golf and that was just a money pit, especially when I put a lot of effort into it (golfing 3 - 4 times per week can add up).

I cut the gym membership and rely on running, cycling, and just basic exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, dips, etc). I'm 37 years old now - I don't need to look like I'm carved out of wood to be at peace with myself. Actually being in good shape, flexibility, and not injuring myself so I can continue my hobbies is a much higher priority.

I wouldn't even count gaming any more. I haven't been a serious "gamer" in over 10 years probably. I tend to play one game, if anything. When it starts to bore me, I forget about gaming until the next huge thing comes along.

So all told, I probably spend a couple grand per year on my hobbies. That spikes if I need (want) a new bike, but I'll get a solid 5 years out of the ones I just bought. I'm a lot more frugal now than I used to be, too.

Most of my hobbies have high start-up cost but after that, very little per year.

Examples:

Guns are expensive, ammo not so much (especially given how seldom I get out to shoot)
Tools are expensive, wood is pretty cheap
Music instrument is expensive, practice is free
Same here.
I've set up something of a small desert garden in my livingroom. It's all in long rectangular planters and on shelves in order to accommodate the lighting.
(One of these would be the stretch goal. Lots of $$$ though. I should probably get a house for me first, though the largest of those is about double the square-footage of my apartment.)

The expensive part was the lighting setup: Multi-color custom-built LED lights, both for photosynthesis and for display. I designed the PCBs, placed and soldered the LEDs, and used a milling machine at work to modify some heatsinks.
Darn expensive startup costs. Absurdly-bright LEDs aren't cheap.

- My apartment doesn't have many windows.
- The windows it does have don't get much light at all, owing to their orientation and presence of trees.
- I'm a little bit south of Canada. Desert plants consider this amount of light to be starvation-level.

Sure I could get some more "normal" houseplants, but they're not nearly as interesting.
And the desert ones don't really notice or care if they're not watered for awhile. Some do need a bit of special care - if they're watered at the wrong time of year, it can kill them. Or if they're watered too much, they can either rot, or absorb water until their leaves split open.

Ongoing costs: Electricity, and new plant acquisitions.

lol i don't spend as much as you all.

fishing? i pick up most of my stuff on clearance at the end of the year.

biking: not to expensive after the purchase of the bike. we enjoy riding along the parks that i live near.

garage sales/auctions: varies. i enjoy going to these and picking up stuff. about half of it i put on Ebay and make enough to go and spend it at garage sales..etc.

model's: i enjoy doing plastic models. purchased a small air paint system for $100. though i think i'm going to get a better one.

model rockets: i have also gotten into building and fireing rockets. the engines are about 3 bucks each and only used once.

I want ot make a wood working shop but man the equipment is really expensive =(

edit: oh forgot the most expensive hobby...comic books and video games

Cycling gear needs to be refreshed, and parts, and never mind the initial outlay.
Computer hardware, I'll count as a hobby, and while I don't get a lot of stuff, it still adds up.
Haven't spent much on camera gear luckily, and music stuff hasn't been that expensive either.
Bloody car insurance alone costs me enough though, to push me well into the 2k-5k group.
